It's not critical but I think Superman usually works best as a patriotic boy scout. He was raised by kindly small-time farmers in Kansas, after all.

He'd probably have different values if his ship landed somewhere else (See: Red Son).

I hope so too, these days there is a super cynical and morally relativistic outlook at everything… I think it is because people do not want the stress of being judged or judging themselves against concepts of absolute good and absolute evil so they want to pretend everything is relative (look at what happened to Star Wars and this obsession with "Grey Jedi"… instead of good and evil we redefine them as extremes and want to choose a middle ground which makes no sense).
