He looks fine to me,I just wish the suit used red instead of that depressing Evil Supes maroon color :(

I want a teaser trailer for this movie now :D

Finally, I did ask Horn how the new Superman movie, "Superman Returns," is going.

Newcomer Brandon Routh, he says, "looks just like Superman. But we knew we had to overcome the fact that Chris Reeve was so beloved and that everyone thinks of him in the role."

The solution?

"We're going to dedicate the new movie to him. I haven't told [director] Bryan Singer yet, but we'll put it at the beginning or the end, 'In memory of Christopher Reeve.'"

Classy.

Still wish the colors were like this.

Though you do see his bald head in the new video journal. Maybe an official still tomorrow? There was some mention of the official site going up at the end of the month with stills from the Licensing Show cards up for viewing but maybe the Spacey shot will be him in 'Lex' mode.

hah, perfect. Btw, are any of these video journals good? I havent watched one but I'm basically looking for a trailer or something with good footage to get me excited for this.

I wonder if Kal will doll out justice in this sequal by only throwing around cellophane 'S' logos. Just one movie full of that...it would be magic.

Are they going to replace Prior with Chapelle??

Same here, his look is growing on me for sure.

Figured this was worth posting but this is BlueTights.net's quick report on the 5 minute trailer that was shown at the Superman Returns panel this morning:
The trailer starts out with a montage of Smallville that's absolutely beautiful. Then we get some shots of young Clark busting through the barn roof, and examining his baby ship. We then jump to the Kents in the house staring out the window in horror, apparently looking at Clark's crashing ship. Then there's the shots of Martha approaching the ship. We cut to a shot Singer described in an the Kent Farm blog about Brandon sitting up into the frame in front of the window. We then cut to Metropolis with a lot of shots that look into the relationships between the characters. Superman's return has prompted Perry to tell Lois to write an article about Superman, though she's very opposed to it. Richard White, her current boyfriend also is shown being a bit jealous of Lois having Superman back in her life. We got several shots of Superman and Superman with Lois, and they look absolutely FANTASTIC together. One great quote from Brandon in the clip was "That place was a graveyard." One presumes he was talking about Krypton, but we shall all see. Near the end we got some very cool, yet brief shots of Spacey as Luthor holding a Kryptonian crystal in his hand. The big finale was an animated live shot of the storyboard picture that showed Superman hovering over the clouds. It was amazing

EDIT:> My mistake, the panel is still happening. Right now it's the Q&A session.

This is SHH! quick write up:
Director Bryan Singer made the rather long trip from Australia to San Diego, leaving the shooting of Superman Returns to greet the fans at Comic-Con International 2005, as well as to answer questions about the film and show a bit of preliminary footage. "If there ever was a time to make a long flight for a short visit, this was it," he told the packed audience of 6,500.

After a bit of confusion about which mic to use, he went over to the podium to answer questions, turning the presentation into an "Everything You Wanted to Know about Superman Returns…" panel where the audience could ask Singer anything they wanted.

When asked about which he thought should be the primary focus of the film, Superman or Clark Kent, Singer broke the character down into three very distinct identities: the Clark Kent on the farm, being raised by the Kents; the bumbling Clark in Metropolis, and then Kal-el, the last surviving son of Krypton. (Singer was so exhausted by his long flight that he called him Jor-El by accident before being corrected by most of the 6,500 people at the panel.) "First and foremost, this will be a love story," he told the rapt audience, "which plays on the notion of an established relationship between Clark and Lois."

According to Singer, Alex Ross was his favorite Superman artist as far as visual style, but he also recommended the Max Fleischer cartoons, as well as the George Reeves television show for anyone interested in his film, which he admitted will be spring boarded from Richard Donner's 1978 film, and its 1980 sequel.

Singer was faced with an inquisition about the changes in the costume, for instance the raised "S" and the darker colors, and he said that he didn't want to play with the costume too much and wanted to keep the essence, but make something that didn't seem so dated.

When asked why he chose Brandon Routh to play Clark Kent/Superman, Singer complimented the former soap star by calling him "a fine actor" and saying that it was always his intention to cast an unknown. As far as how his movie might affect what they're doing on the Smallville television show, Singer said that they had been sharing material with the producers of the show. "We tried to carry the torch and respect the television show," he said, to allay any fears from Smallville fans.

John Ottman will be scoring the film, but Singer confirmed that they will be incorporating the original John Williams theme, which he deems to be "like Star Wars." He believes that the running time of the film will be over 2 hours.

After answering questions, Singer showed a reel that was edited together by the film's co-screenwriter Dan Harris, which gives an overview of the film. The footage opens on a field with scenes of the Kent's farm in Kansas with a voice-over obviously from Superman's mother Lara, asking "Why earth, Jor-El?" The response comes from the easily distinguishable voice of Marlon Brando as Jor-El. Singer said that he had access to all of Brando's outtakes that were never used for Superman 2, but he said that it would be a fairly small part. While they did do some recreations, he made it clear that Brando would not be an all-CGI character.

From there, we see the Daily Planet, Routh as Clark Kent with glasses, brief glimpses of Jimmy Olsen and Perry White, as well as Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. The reel gave you a good idea of what to expect from the plot, which seems to involve Superman having been gone for an extended period of time much like he was in some of the comic book storylines, such as "A World without Superman" and the period after "The Death of Superman." At one point, there was a brief glimpse of a newspaper headline "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman", which apparently won Lois Lane her Pulitzer Prize.

Towards the end of the reel, there was a brief glimpse of a clean-shaven Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, holding an oblong crystal, which was obviously the representation of Kryptonite in the film. Singer mentioned that he'll be splitting the difference with the character from the humorous version played Gene Hackman in the Donner film saying there will be a lot of humor, but also a darker side to the character.

The audience ate it up, applauding wildly and giving Singer a standing ovation, at which point, he did something rather unconventional for a Comic-Con presentation. He asked if the audience wanted to see it again, and of course, we all did. It was just as good the second time around.

Check back later for an audio interview with Singer, where he may answer even more of your questions.

Superman Returns opens on June 30, 2006.

I can't be satisfied with this guy as Superman.

I have come to decide the blame rests on Richard Donner for doing too good a casting job.

Here's the audio interview with Bryan Singer from CS!/SHH!. It runs around 21 minutes in length:

No idea if the footage will make it online as of yet though...

Any word yet on the footage? Are they even allowed to show it, or will it have to be leaked?

Nothing so far. Nobody at the con asked if it would be online or not and the chances of it being leaked are slim to none. The only footage that has been shown at the SDCC and appeared online was the weak Saw 2 teaser and thats it.

If nothing crops up for Superman by tomorrow or Monday then Wednesday/Thursday is the best chance because thats usually when BlueTights.net gets a new video journal.

Someone who got to attend the comic-con posted this on the SHH forums...

"Just got back for the day from the Convention Center. Must say...the footage was incredible. The design of the film is incredibly stylistic. It very much looks like a 30's feeling film but with modern conveniences. It's hard to describe. The design of the film looks a lot like a live action version of the Fleischer cartoons. Great stuff.

Brandon Routh. Wow. His voice is incredible. It's deep and commanding when need be. We already know he looks great as Clark but he also looks really great in the costume, what little we saw of him in it.

And speaking of the costume...the red is very muted. Well, at least the outer part of the cape is. In the scene on the rooftop with Lois, you can also see that the inside of the cape is a very bright primary red. The blue is perfect and the S actually doesn't look small at all. Routh fills the suit really well and looks much bigger than Reeve. It was just a joy to be able to see the costume in motion and I think it looks incredible. The muted red, especially, works very well with the set design of the film. It's hard to explain. Let's just say that the Fleischer-esque colorization of the suit fits perfectly in the art deco look of the film itself.

THE moment of the clip, however, was seeing the much discussed scene of Superman hovering above the Earth and listening, then flys down to the planet. It really reminds me of Alex Ross' work in the Dini large sized book. And then to see Routh's determined look as he ***** back was awe inspiring. Then Superman speeds off in a blur followed by a loud sonic boom. Simply incredible.

Overall, Singer made it very clear that he wasn't just trying to adapt the comics, particularly the "classic" look of the suit. It is obvious that Singer is a huge fan of the Fleischer cartoons and the George Reeves show, which is probably the reason why the look of the film has a very retro look to it. And this is perfectly fine with me. Seeing everything in action erased any doubts I had in my mind of the film.

And Spacey looks absolutely amazing as Luthor. And I really don't get the impression that he'll be like Hackman's characterization."

Man I want footage! :(

Same here...Doesn't look like it will show up online, unless it crops up later on in the week. They're also talking about the footage over on BlueTights.net's boards with some dialog from the footage posted as well a mention of a scene where Clark runs down an alleyway and rips open his shirt to reveal the Shield.

Lois: Perry just shoved Superman back in my life.
Richard: Well, I'm sure you can find a way interview Superman without bringing him back into your life.

----------------------
Richard: were you in love with him? (Not Are)

Lois: He's Superman. EVERYONE was in love with him.

Richard: But were you?

--------------------

Martha Kent: Not even you can stop the world from spinning
