Switch 2 Hardware Needs Day 1 Online Update to Boot Games

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
At this point, not clear whether this is just for Switch 1 games or all games.

Some early models are out in the wild and the people who've gotten their mittens on it aren't able to boot NS1 games cause of this error.

I love how they just remade the last console but with slightly different hardware and slightly different screen size. Imagine if sony did that.
 
Yea, any company taking their console online only like this deserves to not be in the video game industry anymore. Very sad. RIP Nintendo.
 
All games? Or just Switch 1 games? Because re-reading those tweets makes it sound like this is only for backwards compatibility.
 
Turning it on now probably messed it up already, logs cannot be modified so they will know it booted before release date. What they will do with that information is a different matter.

The way people talk about "leaks", and "spoilers" for a console launch just seems so stupid to me. The industry really needs to get over itself, and stop acting like they're working in classified dangerous tech. Always worrying about everything happening ONLY on that sacred "launch day" when....who the fuck cares? Once that day comes, everything will be out there anyway. I wanna see a more in depth look at the OS, that's not a friggin' spoiler, that's me wanting to know what the hell I'm buying works like.
 
I guess I don't see why this is interesting or relevant to literally anyone, since no one should have one prior to 6/5. Games media were already told they likely wouldn't get one til 6/5.

What am I missing? Why is this news? Who does this impact?

Would be insane if it doesn't function at all because what if Nintendo servers crash lol a bunch of brand new bricked consoles?? Not even Nintendo could be that dumb

What planet are you from? No console in the last 10+ years functions without at least intermittent internet connection. Absolutely nonsense, gaslight post.

The Wii U of all things could not function without a day one internet update. That was 13 years ago.

If it needs to connect to the internet to unlock the console that's terrible, if this is just an update to firmware 1.0, no big deal, we know nintendo has been stockpiling for launch since as far back as September totally possible the first units just have really out of date software

Confirmed for sure: Switch 1 games don't work without update.

Remains to be seen: the Switch 2 games that no one has to test yet
 
Seem like a hidden device registration "update", so Nintendo can access the system if they don't like the activities being performed on it.
