Nintendo Switch 2 won't have system-wide achievements, Nintendo has confirmed.

When asked by Polygon if the new system will break from Nintendo tradition and introduce system-wide rewards for playing games, Nintendo's vice president of player and product experience, Bill Trinen, said, "Nope."

Those along with trophies or whatever were always useless anyway. Only time they were ever useful was when you actually unlock actual ingame content with it. Like in certain older games or in Ratchet and Ckank where actually doing achievements/challenges unlocks actual in game stuff.

Meh, I don't really care that they include achievements, especially since it's a software level feature. You can easily add them to your own games if you really want to have them. Still, it's quite interesting that Nintendo is steadfast into not including them.

I would like these types of things more if they were much less common and were for more significant in-game achievements.

Good. I don't think Nintendo would rush put an option to silence notifications, I have them all silenced and not showing on Steam

I personally am bummed because I love achievements, for me it's alot of times so many things are just areas of a game I might not see or explore, or bosses that are optional.. It gives me motivation to really dig further into games... Really bummed to hear they won't have their version.

I don't understand why they'd add achievements to something like the Zelda Notes app and not just to the console itself lol.

Steam, GOG, PSN, Xbox, Ubisoft, Google, EA, Epic...

Nintendo remain the only platform without them.

I like it from a completionist's perspective and it's kind of like a personal diary of the games I've played (and dropped, lol)
Exactly its a look back on my gaming journeys, some platinums trophies etc were hard and memorable and it makes me dig into games much more than I sometimes do, I love it... I'm a stats guy so I love to see it as I play and go.

I don't quite get the angst tho towards them as they are absolutely optional, but I mean it's fine I'll still play the games regsdless.

Now if Nintendo would have like a stat list showing game completions, just a profile log showing actual completions, hours spent etc I love stuff like that also.

They're shoved in my face on Xbox and I find that annoying as hell. You can turn off their notifications, but I'd rather opt out completely. I don't want them on my account. Achievements are not an enjoyable experience for me because it brings multiplayer-like competitive bullshit to my singleplayer games. I don't want to go out of my way to get some achievement, and I don't want to be implicitly vilified for it because I didn't get the achievement.

we all know achievements and trophies suck ass.

but SW2 don't implementing them will be perceived as a "lack of value" from the big N. (especially for people who is thinking on the SW2 as a console to play third party games)

Sure if they'd add an opt out I'm fine with that for those that don't want em, but still they're fairly benign to most peoples experience.
