Take Two's recently filed annual report removes all references to support of DEI

Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K and Borderlands publisher Take Two Interactive has deleted references to "diversity and inclusion" from its annual report to investors this year.

And a list of employment awards it boasts about each year no longer includes two accolades it was granted for its support of LGBTQ employees.

Those changes are among the most eyebrow-raising in Take Two's voluminous 2025 10K annual report, which was filed to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

The changes resemble the disappearance of diversity language from the most recent annual reports for some of America's biggest corporations, including Disney, Google, GM, and Intel. Those firms "deleted or softened their DEI language" from their big corporate filings according to a report from NPR in February.

In Take Two's 2024 10K report to investors, it began a section titled "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" with the sentence…

"We firmly believe that diverse teams are more valuable and effective, and that diversity is key to our success."

In the 2025 version, that section has been relabeled as "Community & Engagement." and the opening line now states:

"We firmly believe that diversity of thought drives the innovation that is integral to our success."

What's so funny is that most of these companies are learning to not advertise externally, what they are still doing internally. And for me (as a black man), I'm happy it's happening this way. It's not publicly acceptable anymore to say it. But they are still doing it and that pleases me.

These things are small, but they do bring a smile to my face. I appreciate that they mentioned "diversity of thought", which I agree is important in the creative process. Not just a bunch of yes men and toxic positivity.

Best part is that when people notice a huge player like Rockstar doing it, you can bet the smaller guys will follow suit.

Good.

'DEI' the way these big corporations have been pushing it since 2020, isn't actual diversity, equality (the E doesn't even stand for equality btw, but equity), or inclusion. Certainly not in terms of ideas or thought, but even in terms of just genuine racial/gender/sexual diversity. I won't say that diversity/representation was perfect in the '90s or '00s, but it was there, it kept getting better, and didn't come at the expense of common sense or demonizing other groups, either. I loved (and still love) various stuff from Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Jennifer Lopez (before she started only doing rom-coms) etc. growing up. Loved the first few seasons of Power Rangers, have enjoyed many of Gregg Araki's films (Doom Generation, Nowhere, Mysterious Skin etc.), enjoyed shows like Scrubs (had a decently diverse cast), etc.

Also a lot of the "firsts" that people try celebrating as big deals today, already happened years ago and most people either liked it or weren't upset about it. For the vast majority, ethnic/sexual/gender diversity was never the problem; doing that in lieu of common sense or respect for others was. Take race-swaps for example: I'm not a fan of it, but it goes both ways. If you want to add some diversity to a cast, then make a new character for the person to play. That simple. Add to the story, rather than stagnate or shrink it. Most people aren't going to believe in nine million genders, aren't going to believe every single non-intentional "microaggression" they're somehow guilty of is them being racist just because it might incidentally be with someone of a different color, aren't going to accept biological men who obviously still look mannish attempt competing as women in women's sports. That's not people being hateful; that's just them using common sense.

Worth also saying, Take-Two had arguably the worst "conference" of 2021 during SGF, if anyone remembers. It was basically a livestream of corporate HR meetings going over things like DEI. Even at the time of watching it, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and kept laughing throughout the whole thing. It almost felt like a parody on their part...maybe it was. Like I've no problem with companies having those types of meeting BTS, but that is NOT something people tuning in to see new games want to actually watch. Again, not because most people "hate" it, but because putting that stuff in a big gaming showcase event, doesn't make any common sense.

FWIW, I'm sure T2 will still have some DEI initiatives corporate-side BTS, as they probably should, keyword there being "some". They just won't be shouting about it from the rooftops or acting like it's some grand thing worth celebrating. It's just, like with everything else, be sensible with it. Always pick people based on their merits and, yes, even in gaming sometimes (in some cases somewhat regularly) those are going to be non-white, non-straight or non-male people. It's been that way since the '80s. Even so, just remember to put artistry and fun ahead of ideology. That's how you succeed in most areas of life.

Turns out that all the DEI people on Twitter don't show up to buy the games when it comes to it. So it was just a matter of time before companies start to change course again.

So instead of "diversity" now it's "diversity of thought"?

Very interesting, still smells like bullshit though. Like they want to keep the "diversity" buzzword but pretend that it's not about discriminating for/against people based on their identities.

This is all part of large corporations being their typical coward selves and trying not to attract the ire of the current US administration. If things ever swing back in the complete opposite direction, they'll go back to rainbow pride twitter avatars.

This is still on Take Two's website

Beautiful.
Hopefully it means they get back to centering themselves around the priority of making a product for the customer & market they are in the business of.
Diversity of thought is a nice change.

well the nutters in the US in the last couple of weeks have proved that they are far more racist than their little programs pretended that they weren't so I'm not surprised many companies would be backing out of support from these types of situations.

It was never about "LGBT" in the first place. It's always been about power and money.

All of them.

Except for Costco lol
I'm sure Costco doesn't hire blue hairs and sexuality sleeves in their Asian territories either. Nor would they if they set up shop in the ME.

In fact, I bet those stores are very, very homogenous with zero "DEI" bull-horning.

Ugh, they are in trouble, just imagine if reeeeee will start gta6 boycott
*laughs in Hogwarts Legacy*

Should be obvious that companies are going to remove DEI language when the President is threatening them with negative reprocussions if they use DEI language.
Doesn't mean their internal processes have changed, DEI was being practiced long before it was called DEI.

It dawned on me recently that you would probably have a lot more "diversity of thought" if you hired five people of the same race from five different countries, than five races from the same country. One of my neighbors is black and me and him have a lot more in common than me and another white person from the UK.

Equal opportunity employment laws have been in place since the 70s.

It just wasn't until the past 10 years or so they openly boasted about breaking said laws.

How can people who want to fit into society then also want seperate labels for themselves? You want in or don't. Dropping Alphabet awards in the company means you are now part of the norm. Enjoy.

They don't believe in diversity of thought. They believe "lived experience" is equal to diversity of thought—that diversity of thought is inherent, based on immutable characteristics. They're just co-opting the term to obfuscate and continue business as usual.
