Teddman reveals Revolution controller details!

Well no.

All Nintendo fans are crazy except me, you, Olimario, Drinky Crow, Amir0x and AniHawk. And that's it. All other fans are completely batshit insane.

take Olimario off that list and add GaimeGuy and we're in business.

Hehe, I know. It doesn't change the fact that your avatar is awesome and I always notice it. :)

No. Nintendo gets mocked because their fans are fucking bat shit insane lunatics. After years and years of reading their garbage, people just love giving it back and watching them freak out.

I kind of enjoy it myself.

Your avatar is annoying.

Wow the Nintendo marketing guys really did a number on you people. "It's called the REVOLUTION which means it will be REVOLUTIONARY. It will change the way we comprehend the nature of what a video game is and how it's played. Soon we'll have to renumber the year system. The year the Revolution gets released it will be year 1 AR (after the revolution)!!" Seriously guys, first MEGATON and now the Revolution's controller. When will it end?

The name revolution would suggest it's revolutionary, plus Nintendo said so themselves. Also, Megaton is coming on August 8, 2005. Believe.

this info makes me think gyros are the most likley candidate for a unique controller function. they could be easily hidden inside an otherwise normal looking controller (edit: although i wonder how well it will work if it's just thrown into a regular looking controller... i imagined something split in half). It's good to hear that nintendo isn't bullshitting when they say the controller will be able to play regular games as well. I suspect the final controller will have a different look but will probably have the same basic layout.... along with an additional secret function... i also expect nintendo won't reveal the unique aspect of the controller to 3rd parties until it is too late for them to fully incorporate it into their launch games, which sux.

So getting back to that prototype. . . Teddman, does it have really small buttons or not? Also, how's the d-pad? Same as the Gamecube's or is it big? This should be a pretty important point when it comes to playing their old games. I'd hate it if Nintendo gave us another crappy small one.

gyro would absolutely kill the batteries, though. Aren't the controllers supposed to be wireless? I think you all are hyping yourselves up too much, unless Nintendo plans to pack in some expensive batteries on top of expensive gyro, or they assume gamers would not want to play games more than 30 minutes.

Killed the GBA battery? I'm serious, I really dont know because i never had one.

Uhhh...a "gyro" wouldn't kill the battery or be expensive. Some are expecting like those super duper precision grade gyros and/or a dual-weilding two-peice controller interface...but I'm expecting just an advanced tilt pak...which wouldn't be too overboard if you ask me.

If what Teddman saw (and heard) was true than let's go from there. No touch screen...but he didn't see the back of the controller...maybe there's touch sensitive grips? I'm imagining games that can be controlled by how tight you grip the handles and that the handles themselves are made of that comfortable stressball material. No gyros...but a tilt pak could be there for simplistic movement control...much more practical and less expensive. No holograms...pffft...I don't think anyone ever believed the controller would feature a rediculous holotube anyways! What he saw and what he was told also doesn't rule out more believable down-to-earth rumors either like a built-in mic, trackball, toggle wheels, built-in airflow (for hot/cool sensations...hey...some people believe it) would make it comfy or something to do with sensors or optics? What about a new form of force feedback too, that wouldn't have been visable to Teddman just by seeing an image of it?

Each of these things is no big deal, but put all of them together in a controller that can also play "normal" games and you got a nice controller. Plus, there's probably more than just the controller anyways...otherwise Nintendo wouldn't keep going out of their way to not call it a controller and instead call it an interface.

I still don't see how this fits with attracting new gamers and/or is easier for non-gamers to understand though? Maybe they just plan on making it less intimidating and giving it features (like a tilt pak, toggle wheels, trackball & grip sensitive controls) that non-gamers can better understand?

Found something at the planetgamecube forums. It's a European Patent Office patent filed earlier this month by Nintendo for: "The ornamental design for controller for electronic game machine, as shown and described." which of course is NOT shown.

Here's the link...
http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=USD505424S&F=0&QPN=USD505424S

This is what I said over there...
No pics, but it has a description of the figures. Figures 9 & 10 talk of a cord coming out of the bottom of the controller. Doesn't say what it attaches to, nor does it point out wether the cord is actually a part of the controller or not. I assume the cord would be for recharging of course, but could also be for a headset maybe? It says the cord is: "accommodated within grooves on a bottom surface" which I also assume means that it plugs into the bottom and is maybe held in place by grooves?

Peculiar that the full patent isn't there and the description is of 10 figures (pictures) that aren't even shown. This patent is probably JUST for the aesthetics (appearance, layout, shape, etc.) of the controller and won't neccessarily tell what all the features of said controller may have.

Applying this to what Teddman said he saw (just days ago, as in soon after this patent was filed) then it can be assumed that Nintendo has patented merely the preliminary controller being shipped with early dev. kits. It should be mentioned that what Teddman saw was an image (not the actual physical controller itself), just a pic of it...which was covered up soon after discovery. Going along with what King Dea said, he also didn't get to see much of the actual physical controller, but mainly just a video of it. If I remember correctly, King Dea started his blog probably within the same week this patent was filed.

This isn't the actual Revolution controller IMO, but maybe just a patent for the controller that's going out with early Revolution dev. kits! So basically not a patent of controller features, but more a patent of what it actually looks like.

That patent is for Donkey Kongas

Probably beating this topic into the ground, but I'm clutching here (trying to stay awake). I e-mailed Nintendo earlier knowing that I wouldn't get nothing but a bunch of non-answers, but here's what was said:

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

We appreciate your interest in our next home console, code-named Nintendo Revolution. Please note, however, that the information that you asked about has yet to be announced. We plan to release more information about the system by the end of the year, which will include details about the games and the controller. Once this information has been announced, we'll be sure to post the news to our web site at www.nintendo.com.

Have fun!
Nintendo of America Inc.
Joel Nicholson

My 4 basic questions were:
1) Why exactly does the Revolution's controller use WiFi, why not stay with the WaveBird wireless...is what you're planning with the controller really require that much more communication?
2) Can the Revolution controller be used to play GCN games?
3) Why is it such a big deal for Reggie to point out over and over that the Revolution's controller can play NES, SNES & N64 games, when literally, the current GCN can already do it...and why would developers be "stoked" about such a "configuration"?
4) Nintendo suppossedly denied this before, but what is the possibility of Revolution games using 3D glasses?

This dude didn't confirm, deny or even comment...he basically said "have fun". Maybe my questions were on to something? Or maybe everyone who works for Nintendo goes through special sadistic training courses to torture their fans with comments like: "here's a clue", "put the puzzle peices together" and "have fun"!!!

I hereby add GaimeGuy to the sane Nintendo fan list and remove Olimario from it.

No... YOU!!

perhaps nintendo has finally gotten it right... maybe they've designed a controller that will accommodate third parties and make multi-platform development easy. hell, maybe they aren't even giving them access to the 'revolutionary' feature of the controller just yet.

personally, i'd be fine with nintendo being the only company to use the special features of the controller while third parties deliver titles that are the same (control-wise) across all three platforms...

the worst mistake nintendo could make would be forcing third party developers to re-work their titles around some exotic control system...

on a somewhat related note, the too human media released looks quite cool. it's too bad sk and nintendo split as too human looks to be the most impressive work i've seen from sk yet. i know that comment may be premature, but it definitely has potential. and better art than any of their other games...

edit: i'd like to be added to the sane nintendo lover club if i could... :lol

You're not moderately sane. You have a freakin' pixelated cover of NINTENDO POWER as your avatar. That automatically exempts you from participating in the SANE NINTENDO LOVER club.

Well I didn't scan it myself, I just found it on Nintendo's site and hosted it on Photobucket. And I chose it because Mario's pose on the cover is freaking hilarious to me.

Rule #47 of Nintendo Sane Club: Do not respond seriously when someone is attempting humour (however bad the joke is!)

I was just jokin', hombre. Ruzbeh and others will have to monitor you more closely for consideration. It might be difficult, though. I've seen some QUESTIONABLE content from you!

WTF, you an M$ whore or something? I guess you've started looking at the graphics and don't care about what games are about anymore: FUN! Go ahead and keep your Halos and driving games, I've got the good stuff on my cube.

What? Can't someone express themselves around here without being labeled a rabid fanboy? Trying to group together everyone different from yourself and mark them with a label so you can ignore them, making them and their views dead to you. What is this, Auschwitz?

I'm not crazy!

littlewig is totally a Nintendo fan. A fanatic, even. I can't tell if you're joking, it was pretty convincing! But if not, this post has EVERYTHING that disqualifies you for the NINTENDO SANE CLUB.

Rule #11 of Nintendo Sane Club: Thou shalt not change competing company names into what are essentially unfunny wordplays! This includes: M$, Microshit, $ony, GayStation, Xcrap3shitty, Gaycube, Gaypube, PhonyPlayStation, PortStation Portable, Nintendo DualShit, Nintendo DickSuckers and any other lame combination that remains unmentioned here.

Rule #28 of Nintendo Sane Club: Don't say that graphics are not important! On the other hand, do not say it is the most important thing either! Acting like quality gameplay and quality visuals are mutually exclusive automatically disqualifies you!

Rule #36 of Nintendo Sane Club: When attempting to discredit someone you deem unworthy to sniff Nintendo's Luigi bootstrap, do not use quality games that appeared on their systems to show this! Example: "You keep your generi-whore FPS like Halo, I'll stick with fun!" Why? Because for one, a game like Halo IS fun and has been widely received as a quality title! For another, you're likely to just bait more people into making you look like an idiot!

Rule #37 of Nintendo Sane Club: Do not generalize! Example: "Keep your racing games." In the case of the racing comment, it will come back to bite you. Because someone will read a thread about you liking the latest Nintendo mascot racer, and bring it up to haunt you! Also, generalizing is bad because it can never, ever be 100% right! Having lots of racing games simply means you have more options to find a racing game you enjoy!

You're as crazy as I was when I was your age.
