ARGON QUEEN
The Argon Queen update was a large expansion to TERA that brings a close to the current Argon storyline, concluding with a battle against the Argon Queen herself. This update also marks the debut of Fraywind Canyon, the first TERA instanced PVP Battlegrounds and Nexus Traverse, the first TERA raid. Click HERE for a complete list of changes.

Txnpbv0.png

Argon Corpus
The Argon main base. Item drops in normal mode include T13 Cyasma, Discord, and Victor (PVP) sets while item drops in hard mode include T14 Bloodvision (PVP), Abyss, and Deathstrain sets. Bosses in both modes will occasionally drop the crafting recipes for the T14 Vision Maker set.

nSKs8qm.png

Manaya's Core
The lair of Shandra Manaya, the Argon queen. Item drops in normal mode include T14 Queen's Wrath armor. Hard mode drops include the T14 Regent set and materials for crafting the T14 Vision Maker set.

HzI5NZ4.png

Sirjuka Gallery
Sirjuka Gallery is similar to Temple of Temerity. In this instance you must protect a crystal from monsters while earning points. Additional points and bonuses are earned for performing specific actions. Currency called Talents can be earned which are be used to purchase new advanced glyphs or glyph boxes. In addition, completing this instance rewards you with one of five tiers of reward based on your group's final score through the in-game mail system.

Raids
Raid groups consist of 20 players in groups of 5. Use them to participate in GvG, Battlegrounds, and Nexus. A raid only chat channel has been added that can be accessed by typing /ra or /i. While in a raid you will only receive 1% of gold and experience from defeating monsters, drop rates are lowered significantly, reputation points can only be earned for Agnitor, and rewards cannot be received from normal quests.

y8xE4o1.png

Nexus Traverse
Nexus Traverse is an extension of Nexus. It is an instanced raid dungeon with large bosses and bigger rewards. Item drops include T13 Fraywind armor, Agnitor armor, crafting recipes, and more. In order to enter the Nexus Traverse, you must be part of a raid that has successfully destroyed a Nexus. When one member has entered the instance, all other players will be summoned.

Fraywind Canyon
A new 15v15 battleground, Fraywind Canyon has been added. 'Bellicarium' reputation can be earned here and used to purchase T13 PVP gear and other items.

Class Changes
Lancers and Warriors were updated with several new abilities and now use a new resource, Resolve, to power their defensive skills instead of mana.

TERA RISING
Outside of the F2P conversion, there have been several changes made to alleviate grind and player frustration. Some of these changes were introduced in patches prior to the launch of TERA Rising. Some highlights are listed below:

  • F2P - No purchase or subscription required. The entire game is accessible and completely free to play.
  • No Monthly Fee - No subscription required. You can sign up for an optional Elite membership for additional benefits.
  • Crafting - All recipes in the game have been revamped and simplified. Crafting is now easy and inexpensive.
  • Enchanting - Enchanting is now easier and a bonus is granted for every failed enchant to increase your odds next time.
  • Rested Experience - Logging out in a town or city will allow you to build up 'rested experience' for faster leveling later.
  • Class Balance - All classes have been completely rebalanced with some receiving major overhauls and glyph adjustments.
  • Gear has been adjusted to better balance sets obtained via PVE versus those obtained via PVP.
  • More accessible and less time consuming methods to gear up at level 60 were introduced.

Nexus
Nexus has been completely revamped. Lag has been greatly reduced, it can be cleared in less than 30 minutes, and the rewards have been significantly increased. In addition, a new setting has been added to the options menu to reduce system load during Nexus called, Real Time Optimization.

Unified Theory Research Institute & Jax Trust
New NPCs have been added in Allementhiea and Cutthroat Harbor that provide daily quests for reputation. Earned credits can be used to purchase T14 enchanting fodder and T14 PVE equipment. This equipment is almost equivalent to a T14 Abyss set at +9 (minus enchanting bonuses) and can be obtained in a relatively short amount of time. This gear is good enough to complete most level 60 dungeons in the game. The PVE gear can be purchased within the first reputation level so it is relatively easy to obtain.

Valkyon Outfitters
Valkyon Outfitters is a store that contains costumes, weapon skins, masks, mounts, vouchers for class, name, and race change, and timed boosters for gold and experience. The goal is for the store to never contain any 'Pay to Win' items and to focus on providing cosmetic items, mounts, services, and time-saving conviences like the boosters.

Champions Skyring
A new 3v3 battleground, Champions Skyring has been added. 'Killing Spree' reputation can be earned here and used to purchase T14 PVP gear.

wlxpF2A.png

Crucible of Flame
A new timed dungeon with a leaderboard and rankings. The Crucible of Flame has two stages with multiple rounds in each. This dungeon is designed to test the best of the best and is considered one of TERA's most challenging dungeons ever. T13 gear is required for entry. This dungeon can only be attempted once daily (twice for Elite members).

STORY
Ages ago, in a realm torn apart by war and strife, Arun and Shara chose to flee and start new lives. Using their immense power, they shaped a new universe and turned their backs on the constant struggles of the old one. They set aside their implements of war. Shara flung a ring into the sky and it burned brightly and illuminated their world. Arun and Shara laid down to rest and began to dream. Their tears formed the seas and their bodies became the continents. Their breath created the winds and their minds dreamed up all manner of creatures and plants. From the heart of each titan came a spring that became the Fountain of Shara and Fountain of Arun. These fountains were the rawest source of primal power in their new world.

The first argon invasion took the world by surprise. Otherworldly and powerful, the motives behind the argon attack remain unclear. Destroying or reshaping everything in their path, they aren't interested in resources, vengeance, or any other tangible motive. Their cold, inexorable advance was stopped only at great cost and by unifying the races of the world. Though the world endures other troubles, a wary eye is kept on the argons as they reshape Northern Shara into a nightmarish, alien landscape. Small units of argons have been seen far south of their "borders," and some within the federation believe the argons are positioning themselves for a final, fatal strike, while the allied races are distracted by internal and external conflicts.

FEATURES
TERA is the first AAA MMO to feature a complete action combat system. Dubbed "True Action Combat", the system uses a free targeting and location based damage system with customizable combos and skill chains. Most classes have a dodge, escape, or block that allows them to avoid enemy attacks in real time. The game eliminates the need for tab targeting or holding down right click to move.

  • F2P - No purchase or subscription required. The game is completely free to play.
  • Politics - Compete for the political position of Vanarch or Consul. Collect taxes, control NPCs, zone settings, and more.
  • Guilds - Fully functional guild system with member ranks, permissions, and guild bank.
  • GvG - Guild Vs Guild large scale PVP combat. Guilds can enter GvG competition in lieu of popular vote for the Vanarchy campaign.
  • PVP - Open world PVP through the use of an Outlaw system. This is available on PVP servers only.
  • Duels and Deathmatch - Timed 1v1 duels, 5v5 deathmatch, and 10v10 deathmatch with optional wagers.
  • Battlegrounds - 15v15 or 3v3 organized team combat.
  • Nexus - Close Nexus portals with a large raid party and then enter the Nexus Traverse dungeon with your raid to fight challenging bosses for better rewards.
  • Daily Quests - Quests from special NPCs can be completed daily to earn reputation and rewards.
  • BAMs - Big Ass Monsters. These are gigantic challenging zone bosses that roam the open world and dungeons.
  • Dungeons - Challenging dungeons with varying degrees of difficulty. Hard Mode dungeons offer the most challenging experiences and the best rewards.
  • Matchmaking - Automated cross-server matchmaking tool for dungeons, battlegrounds, and other content.
  • Enchanting - Special weapons and armor can be enchanted to increase base stats and unlock bonuses.
  • Glyphs - A unique system that enhances existing abilities for your class. Advanced glyphs can be obtained from special dungeons.
  • Valkyon Outfitters - Store containing primarily cosmetic items, mounts, and time-saving boosters purchased with EMP that is bought with real currency.
  • Achievements - Gameplay achievements that grant player titles and rewards.
  • Controller support

BATTLEGROUNDS
Ranked 15v15 and 3v3 organized team combat. Battlegrounds features a ranked leaderboard with individual statistic tracking. The objective is to eliminate the other team or eliminate the team and score bonus points by securing objectives and defeating BAMs. You can earn reputation credits by competing in each Battlegrounds that can be used to purchase new gear and items.

Um76lLL.png

Fraywind Canyon
Fraywind Canyon is the first structured PVP battleground in TERA. In Fraywind Canyon you can compete in 15v15 matches with a pre-made party of 15 against other pre-made parties of 15 or you can use the matchmaking system to queue alone or with a party of up to five players. The cross-server matchmaking tool will automatically pair you with and against other players based on a ranking system.

wKVN51i.png

Champions' Skyring
Champions' Skyring is a more intimate and competitive form of organized PVP featuring 3v3 combat. Each team is only allowed one healer. The goal of Champion's Skyring is simple - Eliminate the enemy team. Each round has a six-minute time limit. If the round ends due to time, the team with more surviving members wins. If there’s an equal number of survivors on each team, the round is a tie. You’ll see the wins, losses, and ties tallied near the top of the screen. If you see your team’s color, it’s a win. Gray means a tie, and the other team’s color means a loss.

Rewards
The PvP tab of your profile has your individual rating for Champions’ Skyring, which updates almost instantly. Seasonal leaders can earn achievements and win exclusive prizes! At the end of each battle, you earn Killing Spree points that you can spend on epic weapons and armor once your Killing Spree rating reaches thresholds of 1200 for armor and 2000 for weapons. The top players for the whole season on each server receive the Murderous Intent skill, which improves your power, attack speed, crit rate, and movement speed for 30 seconds (5 minute cooldown).

Is TERA really F2P?
TERA is 100% F2P. You do not have to purchase the game and you do not have to pay a subscription. You get total and complete access to all content in the game for absolutely free. There are several additional benefits available for those that wish to obtain an Elite membership. You can read all about it at http://www.enmasse.com/free.

Is TERA P2W?
TERA is not pay to win. There are some small advantages to holding an Elite Membership but all sources of income from the Valkyon Outfitters store are primarily for cosmetic items, mounts, and convenience boosts. The implementation is very similar to the Guild Wars 2 model.

What is TERA?
TERA or The Exiled Realm of Arborea, is an MMORPG developed by Bluehole Studio utilizing Epic's Unreal Engine 3, that was originally released in South Korea on January 25, 2011.

What differentiates TERA from other MMOs?
TERA's biggest selling point is its "True Action Combat" system. The system features live-action interactive combat with a free-targeting mechanism that places emphasis on player skill, positioning, timing, and aim rather than player level and equipment. Timing, dodging, and chaining abilities, spells, and attacks are vital to a player's success.

Who is Bluehole Studio?
Bluehole Studio is a new South Korean based development studio established in 2007 with a focus on creating the best MMOs imaginable for the global market that can exceed both Eastern and Western expectations. Bluehole was founded by former NCSoft veterans and employees that worked on the Lineage series of MMO games. Bluehole is currently working very closely with En Masse Entertainment, their North American subsidiary that was previously known as Bluehole Interactive. Bluehole Studio won the Presidential award for TERA at the 2011 Korean Game Awards. The game also received awards for Graphics, Character Design, and Sound.

Who is En Masse Entertainment?
En Masse is comprised of former NCSoft CTOs Dr. Jae-Heon Yang and Patrick Wyatt. Wyatt worked with Blizzard on Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. Wyatt also co-founded Arenanet, developer of Guild Wars. Other team members include Chris Lee who worked on properties such as Need for Speed, Halo, and Age of Empires and former NCSoft employees Brian Knox and Yong Taek Bae.

These industry veterans are responsible for localizing, marketing, and publishing TERA in North America. En Masse worked with Bluehole prior to the Korean release and their close relationship and continued feedback to Bluehole Studio is instrumental in the current and future development of TERA as a global MMO product for all markets. En Masse Entertainment is considered the North American branch of Bluehole Studio and was previously known as Bluehole Interactive, a subsidiary of Bluehole Studio.

Who is Frogster?
Frogster is a Berlin-based international publisher of online computer games, currently focusing on marketing and publishing MMO titles. Frogster has partnered with En Masse and Bluehole Studio to publish the game in English, French, and German for the European market.

Why are my download speeds so slow?
In the launcher, click on "Launcher Settings" and disable P2P Sharing. The TERA launcher uses a torrent based patching system but this can be slow for some users, especially if there aren't that many good peers connected to the system or if the appropriate client ports are not open and available. Potentially the P2P system can result in much faster downloads, but it is currently inconsistent.

Can I play this with a controller?
Yes, the game features full controller support as well as robust Keyboard and Mouse support. Other input devices such as the Razer Nostromo and Logitech G13 are also supported.

What is the current level cap?
The level cap is 60.

Korean MMOs have a bad reputation for being grindy. Is this game grindy?
The level grind is non-existent. There is some form of gear grind that exists at end game but this is the case for most MMOs. EME has made several updates to reduce the RNG elements of the game and to make items and weapons easier to obtain and enchant. The system that currently exists is pretty fair.

Is there a lot of end game content and does future development of the game look promising?
Currently, there is a lot of end game content. There are Nexus events and dungeons which can be tackled with a 20 person raid party, many challenging level 60 instance dungeons with multiple difficulty levels and rewards, daily reputation quests, politics, World Bosses, BAMs, enchanting, crafting, and PVP in the form of Guild Vs Guild, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Battlegrounds. There is now a 15v15 and 3v3 battlegrounds. Several large updates have been made to the game since launch and future plans for TERA include the implementation of a continental open-world faction based PVP system and Consul politics. The outlook is very promising.

Is there an authenticator available for enhanced account security?
En Masse uses a proprietary account security system called "Account Armor" that works like "Steam Guard" for Steam. If an unrecognized machine is detected at login, the user will be prompted to enter an authentication code sent to the user's e-mail address.

How many characters are allowed per account?
Founder accounts get 8 individual character slots per server, per account. Free accounts are allowed 2 characters per server with the option of buying additional character slots.

Where are the servers located?
The NA servers are located on the East Coast, in Chicago. EU servers are located in Frankfurt, Germany.

How customizable are the UI and controls?
Nearly every component of the UI can be moved and scaled to any preferred size or location. Chat tabs can be created and deleted with each chat tab customized to user preference. Nearly every single command, shortcut, and hot key can be rebound to any preferred command. Sensitivities can be adjusted and mouse and other input buttons mapped to any preferred command. You are in complete control here.

Can I play solo or in a small group?
The game is friendly to groups, duos, trios, and solo play. There is a cross server, instance dungeon, matchmaking tool that can help facilitate full groups for players when they are required. There is also a built in party tool that can be used server wide to find a group or look for party members for any purpose.

What does "Reset Instances" do?
From the player character menu ("P"), if you check the instances tab, you will notice a button labeled "Reset Instances". If this button is grayed out and there is a timer, the countdown denotes the time remaining until you can re-enter an instance. If there is no timer and the button is blue, you can use this to reset any previously entered instance that has not been completed or to reset a completed instance if you are the party leader of a party. If you are the group's party leader, it is best practice to press the "Reset Instances" button once your group has cleared the dungeon and distributed all loot. This will automatically port you out of the dungeon and reset your party members' cooldown.

Do BAMs, World Bosses, and Elites count as bosses?
Yes. There are several items and pieces of equipment you can obtain that might have a "boss" damage or attribute bonus attached to them. This bonus applies to all BAMs, World Bosses, Elites, Quest Bosses, and Dungeon Bosses.

What does it mean when a monster becomes enraged?
You've made hulk angry and you won't like him when he's angry. The monster will now move faster and hit much harder than before. If you survive, the monster will eventually return to a normal status.

Just watched some youtube videos of the gameplay. Combat looks "better" but its still a bunch of monsters in a field waiting around for you to kill them. I'll probably try this game out, but I would love to see more rhythm in MMO combat, and perhaps some level design.

What level design? o_O Like walking outside and going through level 5 to get a slurpee at 7-11 level? You can't really have a big open ended world and then somehow make the same world into "levels"

Well, it does stick to some of the tropes of the themepark MMO, but the combat is really the selling point here. If you weren't seeing things with rhythm to the combat, then you were watching people who were still in the mindset of playing this like a standard MMO. If you play this with the skill that say a game like Monster Hunter takes (which this game allows you to do with its active dodges/blocks/etc) then you are able to take on the BAMs solo. Hell, sometimes even world bosses. It might take awhile, but so do fights in Monster Hunter.

Great OT! My already-limited PC time has been even more scarce lately, so I'm excited to have an MMO that's fun to pick up and play without having to stress over the usual MMO stuff.

My only complaint with the game so far is that there's only one starting area. I love making alts, but I'm already sick of noob island from the CBT.

Awesome game. I'm thinking of upgrading my subscription to at least 6 months since I had a lot of fun in the beta and one month won't be enough.

See you guys in the Dragonfall server.

I posted in the other Tera thread...but is anyone else having a problem with the buddy codes?

When I login to the launcher to download the game, it says Trial but that I have insufficient privileges. Is the head-start weekend download not up for Trial members or anything yet? I didn't pre-order or anything--was just gonna try out the weekend to see if it was any good.

Nice looking OT. Lots of really good info.

I decided to go with the 6 month sub. I think the combat will really keep this interesting for me. I'm so excited to get going again!

I should apologize, "level design" is an overly generic statement. I use to mean that the layout of the environment complements the action/enemies/traversal obsticals. One example is to strategically position myself around obsticals to avoid getting hit, or back the enemy into a corner to that they flee.

From what I have seen so far in the videos (any maybe this gets better) is there is not a lot of movement (repositioning) in the enemies after they engage in combat. This leads to the routine in MMOs that usually puts me off.
step 1. see enemies just hanging out somewhere in an open field
step 2. proximity or an opening attach by me triggers the enemies
No way stealth around a lot of enemies if I need to get past them
step 3. both the enemy and I stand in place and trade blows
step 4. enemy dies, respawns 15 minutes later

I think what I have seen so far is the early level areas where it feels a lot like traditional MMOs, so I am hoping that the "action oriented" nature of the game gets better at higher levels.

Hey, just wanted to say congrats you did a fantastic job with the OT. It looks really good. Also i just wanted to ask I had already created my char on Jagged Coast, before I even knew about the GAF guilds :( I can't move servers bc i already have a couple friends playing with me on that svr too. So if anyone else had done the same thing, and wants to make a guild or something on Jagged Coast then just let me know. Look forward to playing and want to wish everyone good luck and have a blast ^___^

Disagree with your char creation point. It's severely lacking in this dept

It's lacking but not severely.

There are things that I want and think shouldn't be impossible to add:
- eye color and face makeup separate
- horn/ear seperate from hair
- more long hair options, even if they have to switch to the updo for certain armors

Ideally I'd want minor height or proportion sliders (not as extreme as PSO) but considering this will mess up the hundreds of armor permutations it most likely won't happen.

I didn't make it off the starter island (almost ... Was 1 level away)... Enjoyed the game but it felt like every other MMO I've played.

I will say though the graphics are eye candy.

Does the standard edition get you access to the early access. It notes for the special edition you do but I don't see it listed anywhere for the regular edition.

I really dont want to just jump into another MMO after being sorta burned by SWTOR...and of course i'm going to stick through XIV (yeah yeah) along with GW2 and Diablo 3 coming up (one isnt an MMO and the other doesnt have a sub, but still)...

But damn if those screenshots in the OP arent some of the most amazing, action packed shots i've seen in awhile.

What class is everyone playing? I'm having a hard time making the choice. It's down to the Slayer or the Warrior. Someone decide for me!!

Getting around mobs is like 100x easier in this game than any other MMO I played (wow, swtor, rift etc). They don't run as fast as a player does on a mount so you can easily just bolt through them. Also due to the nature of the game range mob can't just target you and be like "HAHAH YOU GOT DISMOUNTED SUCKA"

you don't have to stand in place and trade blows. Its totally up to you if you want to do that. I didn't when I played as an archer and a slayer.

Also by mid 20's mobs start to dodge attacks.

Try them both in the prologue, but Warrior seems to have the best endgame potential of the two according to what I read in the Beta thread.

When you get to Lv 28 the way you play changes, and AFAIK, Lv 58 changes it again.

Also, I'm the cutest Elin. :3
OH NO YOU DIDN'T AGAIN!

I'd agree if all I experience was the starter island as well. But for me, the game changes quite fast at level 20 (archer experience)

Thanks for the AWESOME OT ROBOKITTYZILLA! A+ all around!

What class is everyone playing? I'm having a hard time making the choice. It's down to the Slayer or the Warrior. Someone decide for me!!

Do you want to DPS or be a hybrid? Warrior was recently updated to being the only 5 star class, and rightfully so. They're a very versatile but challenging class to play.

Slayer and Sorc are mad deeps, so if you're looking for mad damage, Slayer would be your best bet.

To anyone playing a Lancer or considering rolling one, I've been spending the non-Beta time reading up on and reviewing various Lancer tactics, playstyles, tips, and tricks. I'll gladly help out anyone interested in the class. As always, I'm open to learning a few things myself! :)

When i hit the top level before you leave the island more interesting combo moves opened up. I had went priest class which Probaly was a bad idea considering I soloed most of the island. Wish I'd made it off I had the sense the island hand holds you right to the end.

I just didn't like the generic feeling quests .... Kill x of this. Return to y. Do mission z. Combat and the graphics on the other hand were easily what I liked best. Oh and the wave challenge was really cool. Thinking about it the things I like in this game are the opposite of what I liked about swor. SWOR was all about the story whereas this is more about the combat.

I'm watching some of the tutorials and holy crap! I didn't know there was a housing system. I hope the gafs guilds can get to that level.

What do you think of the armor design for the female humans? I dislike almost all of their robe sets and all but a few of the light and heavy sets. High Elf females, however... pretty much everything they get is amazing. Castanic females get some really great stuff, too, especially the stuff that appears to be endgame.

I wish I tried this out when I had the chance (had a code for a beta event but never used it).

Not sure if I want to dump the $50 for this without knowing what the combat system is like.

I'm more of a pvp guy actually. Any exceptional videos of those? The ones I'm finding aren't really grabbing my attention the way Dragon's Nest did.

Although I was surprised to discover that dodging/evasion isn't baseline for all classes.

I can give you a head start code if you'd like to try the game out.

I'll take one if you have extras but otherwise it might be wasted on me.

I'm pretty sure that, if you translate from the Japanese version, that it's spelt H-O-R-O. Just sayin'.

I'm pretty sure that Japanese famously doesn't differentiate between R and L sounds. The official translation is Holo.

The story of Izayoi's tag (and mine!) belongs to Anime-GAF history.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T AGAIN!

OH YES I DID AGAIN! And unlike the other Elins here, I can prove it with screenshots.

Right, it's more of a mix between an l and an r. Plus Spice and Wolf is set in European-styled society, so in the English translation it would be Holo. But I'm conflicted because the romaji version of her name is Horo ;)

Anyway... back on topic. I also have 3 headstart keys and if anyone wants them, just PM me.

Just want to post a quick reminder for everyone that the offsite home of the GAF guilds is:
http://tera-gaf.enjin.com/home

Since we still got 2 days until headstart I have some time to work on it a bit. If any of you are interested in working on the site as well, shoot me a PM and I can give you admin access.
