More on Cherif Kouachi. Fucking scumbag.

As a teenager Kouachi was often in trouble with the police for a number of crimes. The most serious of which saw him imprisoned for three years in May 2008 after his involvement in the establishment of a network to send would-be Jihadis to Iraq.

In May 2010, police arrested Kouachi, Djamel Beghat and a number of other associates on suspicion of terrorist activity. The prosecution emphasised that Beghat had played an influential role in the radicalisation of Kouachi, who was characterised as a “pupil” who had gravitated towards Beghat.

Police raids at Kouachi’s home uncovered a number of Arabic texts, as well as videos of speeches from members of al-Qaida. Kouachi’s internet browsing history revealed a number of Islamic and Jihadi related sites, as well as child pornography.

Reaction from French far-right leader Marine Le Pen:

Marine Le Pen condemns 'murderous ideology' in the aftermath of Charlie Hebdo shooting

Front National leader calls for end to 'hypocrisy' over 'Islamic fundamentalism'

The attack on the Charlie Hebdo journalists in Paris is likely to play into the hands of Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right Front National. Her success has been the most visible sign of the rising tide of Islamophobia in France, which increased again in the wake of several attacks in December.

In the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attack, Miss Le Pen made a passionate speech about a “murderous ideology” leading to an “odious attack”. “It is my responsibility to make sure that the fear is overcome,” she said. “This attack must instead free our speech about Islamic fundamentalism. We must not be silenced”.

She insisted that “hypocrisy” on the issue must end. “We must not be scared of saying the words: this is a terrorist attack carried out in the name of radical Islam,” Miss Le Pen said.

Miss Le Pen, the daughter of the anti-immigrant politician Jean-Marie Le Pen, has seen her popularity surge in recent years. She came third in the presidential elections in 2012, behind the left-wing president Francois Hollande and the former president Nicolas Sarkozy. The next French presidential elections will be held in 2017, and she is expected to run again.

Since taking the reins of the National Front in 2011, Miss Le Pen has tried to soften the xenophobic, extremist image the party had under her father and broaden its appeal. Her attempts appear to be successful. A recent opinion poll showed that she would receive 30 per cent of the poll in the first round of the 2017 election, which would put her into the final two.

I'm somewhat disappointed by the Spanish newspapers.

Although that particular image is extremely powerful and I fully believe it should be published, most of them wasted a chance to show some camaraderie among journalists and put freedom of speech in the front page instead of a graphic display of barbarism.

I wasn't expecting anything else, but still.

Freedom of expression goes both ways. They are exercising their freedom by choosing not to publish the cartoons. The idea that every outlet should be publishing said cartoons, and then vilifying those that don't, is quite frankly, hypocritical.

I am sorry, but... what a moron...

Seriously, these people.

"I will strike down these disgusting and degenerate infidels in the name of my god! But first, let's look at child porn!"

Just...argh, humanity.

Fucking disgusting people. I'm not even surprised.
Let's hope French police don't hesitate and go for the kill.

The hypocrisy of these people is just astounding.
The world would be a much better place if all the idiot losers around the world joining jihad because they're unable to do anything of value with their lives would jump off a bridge. Same goes for college/school shooters like Elliot Rodger.
You failing at life doesn't give you any right to harm others.

I looked up about Asghar and yeah he basically seems like another crazy hate preacher. Shame on Sky letting him have his say. ( not going to talk about him any more in this thread he doesn't deserve my time.)
Typical of British media to get stereotype reinforcing wackos on to speak for Muslims.
In that case, satire towards 1,6 billion people can't be a problem. They certainly aren't a minority. Most of the minorities look at the satire, laugh it off or shrug at it. Muslims don't have more rights to not to be used in satire.
In France they are a historically discriminated against and massacred (French Algeria) community.
Some of the Italian front pages (the usual suspects) are disgusting.

Ahhh I wonder how they'd feel if a Northern European country ran a headline "This is Catholicism" with regards to Church Abuse.

So there is no problem with Islamic satire in Islamic countries where they're the majority? It is no reason to limit satire because the Islam is a special case or no minority should be the subject of satire.

This is performance art. Right?

I'm printing and framing that shit.

I don't even know what are you talking about. Nobody is being vilified.

I just wish they could have made it more about freedom of speech than the act itself. Most newspapers are talking about a jihadist attack or jihadist violence instead of the true intent of the attack: silencing critical voices. Both are valid angles, but I feel like they lost a great opportunity by covering it in such an average way. This isn't just a car bomb or a random shooting like Australia's. It's something else.

I see your point, but you really don't want to talk about French Algeria and sectarian violence if your point is painting Christians/French as the bad guys. Pied-noirs got an extremely rough deal.

What happened and the "regular" muslim that is offended by a cartoon of the prophet are different symptoms of the same disease.

Islam needs to change this ridiculous blasphemy views, this issue of the blasphemy is not compatible with a civilized society.

What a crazy world we live in where she can use something like this to score 'common sense' points amongst voters. This ammunition should be nothing more than damp powder, but thanks to the efforts of people to distance islam from islamic terrorism, this chick sounds like she's making a bold and brave proclamation.

Well, I have news for you. If you look like someone typically assumed as being from the Middle-East, it can be quite tough and challenging to walk around in some European countries because of Islamophobia and prejudices. This is pretty much true in at the very least some cases.

I don't even know what to answer to posts like this anymore.

Comparing today to the 1930s... you have no idea what happened in the 1930s do you?

Ehm, that's not what the post you quoted was about. Read it again.

The Uk has been the subject of immigration for decades, we had hundreds of Indians come here after the collapse of the empire. Whilst there were difficulties at first, they are now a big part of UK culture.

Whilst there is a minority against foreigners most are made to feel welcome.

I definitely think the UK are at a better point than parts of continental Europe in regards to multiculturalism and respecting other cultures. But it still ain't perfect in the UK.

It's more complex than that. I'm just trying to see things from a Western Muslim's eyes. A lot of Muslims hate the cartoons. I doubt it's because they don't get satire. There's deeper cultural and historical reasons we can draw as to why Muslims feel upset and not just because of rules about Mo.

So it can be explained why reasonable Muslims might feel hurt or averse to the cartoons if they feel it is reinforcing the already negative stereotypes prevalant in tbeir society.

For the record I am a Turkish Atheist that openly mocks Islam in front of my religious grandparents and criticise it in front of Turks in Turkey (many of who agree). I'm just saying that in a climate where Muslims are already the determined uglies in Western society, it hurts them even more to have tgat reinforced. But a White Christian European has no ugliness so satires of their lifestyle will not affect them as much.

Kind of like the same argument for why racism hurts blacks more than whites.

The Arab policeman who was shot and killed, was he the one assigned to guard the offices of Charlie or was he one of the first to arrive on the scene when the shooting started?

The issue is gettong non wackos to appear.

Whilst not a headline this was a criticism heavily aimed at the Catholic church as being endemic of such a hierarchy.

The one first arrived, i believe. The guard was killed inside the offices trying to defend everyone.

Unfortunately the wackos are more likely to give enough of a shit to elevate themselves into positions of supposed leadership in their communities.

I can understand that. Balkan Turks and Caucasus Turks got the rough end of the stick when our Empire broke up too.

He was a bike officer who I guess was in the neighbourhood and answered the first call.

Did you seriously just compare satire to racism?

The usually shit Swedish tabloid Expressen has a completely hand-drawn first page today, in honor of the victims. I think it's a pretty creative and nice touch.

They've been seen on the freeway to Paris and they were heavily armed. They are searching for them very intensely.
I know. Maybe they slipped through into Paris and now police lock everything down to make sure they can't leave Paris.
