If I'm not physically on a line right now...what are the odds of me being able to purchase this car in the following months?

Edit: just read more info about this basically being a deposit to get a placement for the car next year.

I feel like I've seen this posted before on the net and it was said to be a fake

I don't know that it is a fake, I think it is just an S that looks strange.

The car doesn't ship until late 2017/early 2018. You can preorder anytime between now and then, but you will have to wait for everyone else to get their cars before you get yours. If you think you want one in early 2018, throw the 1k down and if you change your mind you can get a refund.

That pic above was at least out back in October. It's not a recent "leak". Seems to big to be the 3. Looks more like an X concept before they decided on the grill. The handle bars seem to be like the X as well, which isn't to say it's not possible the 3 has the same handlebars. It being around so long though, lends to it being not the 3. I'd be down if it were though.

If you were to pick the finance option for a 35K car, how much would the monthly payments be? I'm just wondering if I can afford it.

You're going to need to provide way more info than that:

How much is your down payment?
You have to include the title, registration, and tax fees
How many months is the loan?
How much is the interest on the loan?
etc.

Above is right need more info.

But if you financed $25,000 of it for 6 years at 3.11% it would be $381 a month, not including anything extra

Online ordering at http://Tesla.com will now open at 7:30pm Pacific to ensure no server overload. Presentation still at 8:30..

Elon Musk just tweeted that online orders will start at 7:30pm with the reveal still at 8:30pm to reduce server load.

What % of our net monthly income should we spend these sort of payments?

No more than 15%-20% of after-tax income per month

For example, if you earn 60K a year you'll be taking home about $3200-$3400 in after-tax income, so you probably don't want to be spending more than $600 on your car payment and car insurance.

I would say 10%... some people go as high as 20% but that is a lot IMHO. Depends on your other expenses.

I've just bought a new car so now I have 2 auto loans and a scooter loan and am at 17% for a few months and am sweating...

His hand must hurt as much as F1Fan's from this mornings keyboard warrioring in this thread.

Hahaha, well at least now I know all that pain was worth it. That's like the 3rd post you mentioned me, since early this morning. Must have touched a nerve deep down :D

Nothing better than trolling people on the internet and seeing their salty tears hours after :D

Still waiting in line lol?

Love it :D

A very, VERY general rule is $100 per $5000 you borrow. It's not an exact formula, but it will typically put you in the ballpark. Also remember, that doesn't include insurance which will vary by driving record, state, car type, etc.

Well, I hope they'll make some changes in their design language a bit, so that it's just not a smaller Tesla S. I really liked the Tesla S design when it came out, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth... but seeing Model X didn't derive too far from S, I am fine with the mini S.

Even if it's a mini S - it would still look miles better than Prius/Volt/i3/Leaf/Bolt... but what I'm more concerned is the quality of interior, fit and finish - as it's the place I'll be spending at least 2 hrs of my life daily.... but I doubt we'll see the interior today... even if they show interior (concept) - Musk already said they'll be adding/evolving - so production model would be quite different, I assume.

Just read that Tesla are making that DIY 'skateboard' platform open to the public (that's the thing where you drop your car off, they strip it and turn it into a P90D under the skin, or whatever). While the take up is likely very small, that's still pretty awesome, and I look forward to seeing what some custom show cars come out of it.

Also fuck these last two or three pages of obnoxious, obdurate posts. Unbelievable.

Still hoping they go the Audi route and we get just a slightly smaller Model S.

Instead of trying to intentionally ugly up the lower model to create differentiation and/or drive demand to higher models like so many companies do today.

Musk hasn't done anything wrong yet so I am hopeful.

Yeah, at this point I honestly think he's being honest when he says we'll like it. With the way tesla spends, they can really use something that is approachable to the mass market, and they likely won't buy just based on name.

I mean here, on NeoGAF, the forum I equate with the very definition of "uncontrolled internet hype". But I guess that's mostly on the Gaming side.

There was a lot more hype this morning, while the stores were opening.

And I think there will be a good chunk of hype once the announcement is made.

That Tesla does look nice. And it looks worth 35k...haha. well played.

He really wants this one to land. and as long as it isn't plagued with technical and consumer issues, I think this is it.

The age of electric is here.

i already see credit card booths with air pumps at 7-11s. How easily would those become charge stands?

I'm going to guess it will be a regular sedan - with the model s look - but chunkier enough that it will be seen as more of an economy oriented vehicle, rather than the luxury/sport model S vibes we get

Also, in reference to the posts about the looks of the model s, the only complaint I've heard is that the car's body looks a bit too plasticy. I'm sure that's cause of the shinny black plastic in the front, but besides that it's definitely one of the sleaker sedans alongside the 6 series granturismo, cls 550s, and A7/S7s
