TGA Public GOTY winner leaked (accounts for 10% of final vote)

No way is Ratchet deserving of GOTY over any of those games in that list except probably Resident Evil.

the visuals did the heavy lifting for its high review scores, but I'm not sure it ranks high on the 'memorable' scale.

I blame the nominating Jury. Returnal should have had that slot over Ratchet, tbh.

I agree. If there has to be a Sony game in it it's Returnal>Ratchet. I also think Forza Horizon 5 and Hitman 3 deserved a nomination more than others.

it has nothing to do with it. PlayStation users are the largest in the world. those are user votes that change the fate of the entire vote. As long as there is a Playstation title among the and the odds of winning are immediately sky-high. Precisely for the number of users who will obviously vote for the game on their console.

This obviously has nothing to do with the very high quality of Sony games. But goty rules are colossal nonsense.
the vote is completely flawed by the users. And we need a slightly higher IQ than the monkey to understand that if one has never seen or played a game, he will not vote for it.

If Ratchet won I'd say thats dope, I loved the game and had a bunch of fun with it. Way better than that other award show picking Resident Evil 8 IMO

Lol. Are you gonna sit there with dry eyes and claim Deathloop is a better game than Ratchet? Ratchet is fun from start to finish, with actual next gen visuals and mechanics. Deathloop is a game with just 4 maps and completely braindead AI (I believe they even addressed the AI in the latest patch) and not very good gunplay for a shooter.The idea is great, the execution is mid.

And Village is way more fun and better paced than Deathloop, in my opinion.
 
Metroid is the only game on that list I don't own and for me R&C is the worst by a huge margin.

I can understand if there were no other platformers on the shortlist but It Takes Two and Psychonauts 2 are a class above R&C in everything but graphics (although It Takes Two looks beautiful for cross gen).

Don't be too sure. Many reviewers/critics are in their 30s/40s, chances are high that they have grown up with PlayStation. If there wasn't an equal or better Nintendo game, i would always put my money on the Sony game.
 
well we already knew that there are way more sony fans out there , soo it makes sense the excusive would win the popular vote

In other words, like every game award so far.

I'm not against the idea but the rules of these official awards have always been nonsensical, it'd be better if there was some sort of criteria that lets us understand what we're looking at.

Disappointes it rachet being the winner, its an ok game but gets pretty repetitive, personally id pick deathloop or dread
 
Real GotY is Returnal for me. Visuals, Gameplay, atmosphere, music, story... It nailed it all.

Sad it didn't made the list in an overall below average year for gaming.

Why? Ratchet was my choice too for several months. It's awesome.
FH5 and Dread surpassed it eventually though but it's probably just because I love racing and metroidvanias.
 
Great game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not disappointed to see it win, but I do think there's an argument to be made for many other games this year.

To be honest this is not a year with an obvious winner like RDR2, TLOU2 or Breath of the Wild.

I look at that list and i think about how this year had plenty of great games...but it wasn't a year with mindblowing ones with one that stands out. At least for me.

Whatever wins from that list it'll be like "okay... congrats" for me. Including Ratchet.

That said...Ratchet won the public vote which is worth 10% only.

Seriously, Ratchet and Clank looks pretty, but it's shallow AF and a complete snooze fest.

Mateoid Dread, Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon 5, Returnal…these games are all exponentially better than R&C.

But yeah, if they're giving awards on window dressing and pure looks…R&C will win. Last time I checked, you actually have to *play* the games.
