I really don't think that James Cameron is as bothered by this as you all think he is. Him and Bigelow are on pretty good terms. Plus, you know, 2 billion dollar sheets to go home and sleep on.

Glad to see the hurt locker win. Of all the movies nominated (that i've seen) it was the best of the bunch. I really thought Avatar was going to roll over everything. Glad to see that didn't happen

There was no way D9 was going to win, so I'm happy with THL winning. Anything but James Cameron's Avatar, a film by James Cameron, written and directed by James Cameron, All Hail James Cameron! :lol

Thank fucking Christ a cartoon didn't win best picture (I say this as a professional CG artist). Eat it, James Cameron.

And this is the problem. The people who got owned when Avatar was a success were so caught up in hoping the pathetic , directionless, and boring as hell hurt locker would win they cant even see that Inglorious Bastards just got robbed almost all night. Yes congrats to the hurt locker. congrats you completely forgettable and average at best movie. No one will remember you 2 years from now hurt locker so enjoy your undeserved moment in the lime light.

Hanks needs to present all categories next year. We can have this sucker wrapped up in 30 minutes.

EDIT: Get out my undead brain Forester!

I actually feel sad for the dozens of posters that had that image folder ready with James Cameron's "King of The World" image ready at the point of the click.

The meltdown isn't amazing as I hoped, it's nowhere near the amount of tears that an Avatar win would have generated.
That's cause the Bullock win already had the shitstorm

Ehh part of me thinks Avatar was nominated for history's sake. Honestly, what would it say about American film if it's highest grossing movie of all time wasn't even considered one of the ten best films of the year? :lol

Realistically, Avatar had no chance of winning.

Dead

well not really...yet
In the end, Avatar and Inglorious Basterds will both be remembered for a far longer time than Hurt Locker. :)

The Academy doesn't want to recognize CG just yet. Because they know CG is going to put them out of business. Basic elitism.
Good point... Actors are the biggest voting bloc of the Academy, and they are terrified of the prospect of a motion-capture dominated industry where the actors don't even appear on screen.

Also keep in mind that this is the first year that they used a tiered voting system, so if you put something down as your last choice on the ballot, you could "vote against" a movie.

Cameron knew this and tried to spin it by claiming the actors created the performances 100%, they were collaborators, animators had no creative input, etc. But it didn't work.

It wasn't but it was a better movie then Avatar.

Yeah the only frontrunners were Hurt Locker and Avatar and of the two Hurt Locker was better.

Personally, Inglorious Basterds, A Serious Man and An Education were all much, much better than both, but the Academy doesn't care what I think.

And neither does the movie going public. 2.5 trillion gazillion dollars for Avatar *pfft*.

Whether it's elitism or not, I don't care because it synced up with reality.

Yeah, Probably. I still liked The Hurtlocker.

The people hating on Avatar just because it's so popular are absurd. :lol It's always black or white for you guys! I think James Cameron should have won something and IB ( :( )should have won the big awards.

The funniest thing about all these "Ahahahaha...AVATAR LOST!!!" posts is, I'm not seeing the "epic meltdowns" you all thought you'd see.

I saw waaaaaaay more meltdowns on the the other side when he swept the majors @ the GGs.

I predicted AHBUHDAR losing the big 2 weeks ago and never budged.

Tom Hanks with the swift kill, god damn. Good to see an actual film win, not a glorified tech demo roller coaster ride.

I'd give the Oscars props, then I remembered they snubbed Moon

If Quentin was ever gonna win an oscar for either best picture or best director, it was gonna be this year. I'm miffed that Inglourious Basterds didn't get an award for either, dammit. =(

He'll get a makeup award later in his career. Inglorious Basterds wasn't his best film anyways, was middle of the pack as far as I'm concerned (which is still damned good considering his filmography)

First tragedy, then farce.

I have to agree with this. Up as well.

Not that it makes a movie "better" than the other, but Hurt Locker will be all but forgotten in 10 years.

That said, Basterds was the best picture this year.

this was his masterpiece :(
yeah, I doubt he'll ever win for best director or best picture, oh well

I am fine with Avatar losing best picture, would have liked A Serious Man or Basterds to win, but I don't get why so many people hate on Cameron, when he's pretty much like a nerd like most of us.

Yeah, that was a damn shame. That movie should have garnered tons of awards.
