The Black Culture Thread |OT2|

They should weaponize whatever flu I managed to catch. Have a day where I think it's finally going away. BAM. Next day it's back to square one. What torture.

Just finished watching the Lost finale on Netflix for the first time. Did all the male black actors decide to go on strike by the end of this show or something? They couldn't get even one of the three black males actor to return for the finale? Not even just a cameo? Hell Michael and Walt's damn dog got an appearance in the final scene but not his owners? US television never "fails".

Yeah, that really burned me up. They really had a "fuck Michael" attitude, clearly. He wanted to be on the show, but they kept fucking up his character.

Walt makes an appearance on a post-finale short they made for the DVD release. The creators said they asked Eko to come back for the finale, and they couldn't come to an agreement money-wise. The most suspect absence is totally Michael though, his reason for not being able to "move on" like the rest was that the island wouldn't let him. He is the only one who gets this fate apparently, because we see characters who have done much worse show up in that church (Sayid for example).

The actor who played Michael has criticized this aspect of the show more than once. I don't know what they were thinking with his character in particular, one of his big arcs in the show is getting redemption and they still fuck him over. I would be more inclined to blame it on bad writing but that may just be my lingering bitterness over the final season talking.

Wasn't it because Walt hit puberty hard and fast between seasons so they didn't know what to do and wrote him off the show?

That makes sense for the early seasons, makes no sense for the later ones. Also it makes absolutely no sense for Michael being a murderer and then coming back only to be blown up. All we got on that damn island was Rose.

Haha, I forgot Michael's final season island appearance as a ham-fisted way to explain the whispers. Hahahaha.

Seasons 5, 6 and the finale of Lost retroactively make it a bad show. The other day a friend of mine who said he wasn't going to invest his time into the next seasons because the quality drop asked me to explain to him what happened. I couldn't believe the ridiculous shit that was coming out of my mouth.

lost was always a terrible show. you were just so invested that you didnt realize it.

Nah I don't think it was always terrible, it was a decent show at one point at the very least it just got progressively worse and then entered "wtf is this shit" territory. They definitely did feed on the investment of viewers though, theirs always an intrigue because of the unknown, problem is the pay off was never any good, the build up was more interesting than anything.

I could date one casually, maybe. I'd have it set that I could never get serious with one though. Seriously, if Asa Akira wanted to hang out on a semi regular basis and even throw the pussy my way, I'd be down(she seems like good peoples) *shrugs. It would be shortlived like a motherfucker though, cuz I aint trying to catch no feelings and I aint bout dat life.

If you're talking about a Belladonna or Ava Devine though....No. It's really all relative.

i absolutely let them have it after the finale aired. they aint even try to defend it either.

They showed him a couple of times during the show when he was going through puberty so that's really not an excuse IMO.

I was watching the show back to back on Netflix for a couple of weeks now (never saw it when it originally aired). I definitely preferred the show when it was just "people trapped on an island" before all the magic/time traveling stuff came into the picture. That being said I still enjoyed the whole thing, but that ending just annoyed me. I mean Mr. Eko was a good character IMO and should have at least gotten some sort of spot.

Walt makes an appearance on a post-finale short they made for the DVD release. The creators said they asked Eko to come back for the finale, and they couldn't come to an agreement money-wise. It all sounds like BS man. Post DVD releases? Mr. Eko wanting more money (the old Marvel/Terrence Howard "trick", but no replacement actor)? And the Michael situation is especially foul. He even showed up in one of the later episodes before the finale
(yes the island not letting him move on thing, which is stupid considering that was one of Jacob's rules and when he died that no longer applied), so I don't understand why he couldn't make an appearance in the finale in some fashion, even if they just had Jack walk past him in a hallway.
I would have been fine with even just seeing some stock footage of all the characters before the final scene.

Someone explain the ending of Lost for me.

After everyone died at various times, some on the island some off, their souls stayed in a place of waiting to be reunited with each other. They needed to be reunited because the island was the most important thing to them all (rather the relationships from the island), once reunited they move on to the true afterlife.

6 years for that shit? What about the 4 toed statue and the smoke monster?

I don't think the statue was every explained. The smoke monster is never actually explained either. We learn "who" it is, but we don't ever learn what it is and why it exists as it is a bit separate from the lame character origin they gave us.

You want to know what really weirds me out? The last episode of Firefly. Sometimes I think I'm being paranoid, other times I feel the whole episode evokes the black brute trope. I hope I'm just looking too much into it.

I actually think Lost was at its best when they were just tossing in shit (partly), when they brought more structure to the show (last three seasons) it slowly started going bad. I still love those first three seasons, even if there were chunks of episodes where "nothing ever happens".

Anyone watching Misfits? You can watch it on Hulu. It's pretty damn funny and as a bonus it stars Antonia Thomas.

I'd recommend watching the first 3 seasons before jumping into 4.

Battlestar Gallactica was always better than Lost. Can't even believe it was a debate - even if you had disagreements with BSG's direction in some of the later seasons, it still had more of a heading than Lost ever did. And it had much better acting across the board.

Losing Nathan made me drop out of season three. Seeing the big cast change in S4 is making me hesitant to go back.

That said, Antonia Thomas is my waifu.

Rudy>>>>>>>Nathan. The actor who plays Rudy has much better comedic timing than the other dude. There isn't one episode that doesn't provide at least one potent quotable from Rudy. Be warned though, they're aren't afraid to kill characters off. :(
