I've seen Aryan-related groups and KKK sometimes referred to as domestic terrorists, but usually in documentaries and such. Even school textbooks sometimes. I think people in general though are forgetting the actual definition of terrorism. The way I remember it, it used to at least generally refer to groups that weren't conventional military trying to use the threat of violence to influence politics. Now it's just a buzzword basically meaning "The Enemy."

But you're right on the mental health thing. The only exception I've seen to this was the naval base shooter.

It's hard to ignore someone who is obnoxious enough to claim to speak on your behalf.

I wouldn't mind seeing more gay characters, sure. If the designers feel like they could do something interesting with characters who happen to be gay and they have a good story to tell that's fine by me. I'd be interested in what they'd do with it. But fuck off to anyone who wants to force them to design more gay characters in order to promote inclusiveness. That shit is condescending.

But people need to keep in mind that just because minority issues get lots of attention and buzz from a small but vocal group it doesn't make their appeal increase to the broadest segment of players. Same reason why there are more movies and books about straight people then gay people. Most people aren't gay therefore, most media reflects that.

Trying to turn this issue into anything else is borderline special pleading and I personally find many of these issues to really be about people's inherent need to form angry mobs (it's more fun to be outraged with other people) as well as the internets anonymous nature to provide fertile ground for people's deep rooted desires and apparent willingness to champion nearly any cause.

I like the creative vision argument. Like sexual orientation, specifically heterosexuality, has ever been a crucial part of any videogame story. Like Mario's platform mechanics or incredible story takes a hit if his prince was in another castle, or Halo's online structure or plot is compromised if Chief was gay. the fuck.

That privilege is just too comfy to even entertain the idea of letting some go to some people.

This and the "I can't relate" arguments are my favorites. Dudes can relate to a six eyed demon with a pistol for a dick, but couldn't fathom the thought of a woman punching her way out of a paper bag (convos about The Raid 2...).

The REAL problem is that black people ain't as cool as white/Italians perception wise. When you think white/Italian criminals; there is an aura of yeah.. the cool factor. Black people; you'd associate with slums and ghettos, pimps, druggies and all the really negative associations (WHICH they've been dealt an unfair hand with). Mention Harlem and nothing really good comes out in relationship to the area. Racial stereotypes are deeply ingrained IMO. White america will find it hard to deal with the theme. I personally can't watch black porn. GTA SA sounds like something I won't be able to get into. (But then I wasn't too impressed with GTA to go run out and buy VC).

I think once word gets out about the setting. This game won't sell that well. (DID DEF JAM sell well?) Fact that Manhunt sold like crap is also indicative that maybe the lustre on violent games is wearing out.

There are also people not comfortable with black people, women, etc.

That's not even the real problem; the problem is people being against equal representation or anything even approaching it and from that position, trying to act like a minority character does something to adversely affect a game by its very existence. End of the day we're talking about things that people create to ostensibly make as much money as possible so why not appeal to a wider demographic?
