i paid 50 dollars for it thinking it would be like the snes version akin to ss2 turbo and championship edition for the snes and genesis respectively. what i got was a crap fighter with characters i like to try to pretend it was good. even with ray and casey, i could never fool myself into believing that false hype. a few months later i would end up saving enough to buy the snes version

Something tells me that Japan is gonna have a huge resurgence in the gaming industry over the next few years.
Everything from the West seems real same-y, watered down, and (intentionally) incomplete. Outside of Naughty Dog, everything is sort of blah.
Japan, though? With some of the stuff regarding FFXV, Deep Down, From Software, Bayonetta 2, MGSV, as well as some of the stuff revolving around VR, I feel like they are finally catching up in terms of HD development.
They just have to stay out of their own way, and they'll be fine. Which, admittedly, for companies like Square Enix, Capcom and Nintendo, seems to be a very tall order these days...

Business techniques in gaming has really soured me on video games in the last/current gen. I mean, depression made me pretty bored and uninterested with games as well, but I hate how its just the norm to remove or hold stuff back so you can sell it back as DLC. I really am not into the digital distribution method. I don't like the idea that you can't sell things back or lend them to a friend. Buying DLC that you can't trade in or lend is a bummer. I also don't like that there seems to be no middle room between indie and AAA titles. And that first person shooters is so dominant. FPS aren't fun at all to me, so I don't have a lot of interest in many games coming out. Shit is just completely uninteresting to me. Plus the culture around gaming is fucking gross, as seen by Gamer Gate bullshit.
If only 2K had worked on the rest of 2K15 as hard as they worked on these cheerleader models.
For instance, how about the fact that screens are ineffective because the only way to avoid any offensive foul call is to wait for the screener to stop and be completely set. But by that point, the rolling defender is already ready to defend.
Or how the input lag on user control makes it damn hard to play defense.
But nah... VC microtransactions and cheerleader models were a top priority, apparently...

I think the failure of pretending to be Western last gen soured a lot of cats over here (there were some unfortunate casualties among that rush too) and while indies are looked down on by a lot of people in the West, Japanese devs are checking for them. It'll be interesting to see what happens once they know their way around the new tech better, and smaller devs get more into PC as both platform and distribution method.

I think Japan's economy would have to get off its ass first.
The big problem with, well Japanese media in general right now is that it's having to suck on Otaku dollars in what is basically survival mode right now. That's why you got loli and moe shoved into almost everything. Otakus are one of the only groups in Japan that still consume things in enough quantities. The Japanese games (and many anime) of the past were appealing to mainstream Japanese audiences, and then western audiences as a bonus -- cultural exports usually come after domestic success. Much of today's Japanese media doesn't because it's dealing with a generation that "doesn't consume" in their words. The economy over there has probably destroyed consumer spending.
Nintendo can hold their own shit down in terms of software, continuing to have wide appeal, but they cant prop up the whole industry over there on their own.
Really? Japan's indies are about as underground as you can get right now. A few have gotten picked up by Japanese localization companies, but most are still fine sticking to obscure Japanese forums and Comiket.
It actually does mystify me why Nintendo and Sony aren't scouring Comiket or wherever for these guys. BitSummit is pretty much it and it's only basically just getting started.

I actually meant Japanese indies/smaller developers checking for Western indies and trying to get more collaboration/cooperation going, as well as more visible Japanese small devs trying out other methods of distribution, like when Touhou did their first digital release a while back.
It's most likely that you won't see first parties in Japan doing too much for indies until they think they can get a significant return on any investment.

At some point people gotta realize that due to their massive consumption of media that they pretty much figure out plot threads and twists very easily. Doesn't mean because you figured it out that the writing was poor.
