They need to back to basics of Die Hard 1 and 2. Closed space, no insane action sequences, just bloddied Willis killing bad guys in often funny ways.

Is this true?

I hope he gets the chance to make more action movies, he is probably the best in that regard.

He already has one lined up with Red Squad, that starts shooting in april.
I for one, hope for the best!

As for Die Hard: They should have taken the Olympus has Fallen script and go with that.

I hope the next one is good. I didn't like the 5th one.

My ranking of the series is:

1. Die Hard
2. Live Free or Die Hard
3. Die Hard with a Vengence
4. Die Hard 2
5. A Good Day to Die Hard

Every few months I get a beer, crank on the WAV Blu-ray and have a blast. That film is amazing, wonky second half included. A pissed up Bruce in his prime, a hammy Irons tearing it up, secondary characters that felt grounded (McClanes boss, colleagues)...sigh.

McTierian for 6 if there absolutely has to be one.

Good list, but I'm not sure if I'd put Live Free before Vengence. I love both, but haven't seen 4 enough to judge. I do love Sam Jackson. I also like.. um.. the Mac guy.. I know his name. I forgot it.

And I wouldn't even put 5 on the list. It's not Die Hard. It's a terrible Die Hard fan fiction by someone who only vaguely heard of Die Hard. It's bland action schlock that isn't even enjoyable as a popcorn flick. I watched it, but immediately forgot everything that happened in it. I had to watch a CinemaSins EWW video about it to remind myself what happened in it. And now all I remember is shooting the glass ceiling and "I'm on vacation!" No you're NOT! AT ALL! Oh, and there were Russians. And his son. And it sucked so much. And will be left off of any future marathons.

I liked every single Die Hard. Except the last one. That...that was not a Die Hard film. So so so disappointing. Even felt like Bruce was phoning that one in.

I just watched 5 the other day. It wasn't terrible but Bruce was bored throughout it and the writing was painfully lazy. McClane was not written as McClane and there were next to no shots of him saying anything that solidified his character.

Plot wise it felt like a diehard movie and the set pieces were pretty good overall but John Moore couldn't hold the film together. There was fuck all in the editing room of the characters reacting or doing any kind of action during an action sequence to cut into to ground them into the scene. It is why it comes off so sloppy. Notice how many times you hear Bruce say a line and you don't see his face. It is almost like they added dialogue in later because they had so little of it to start with.

Moore did pull out some great highly stylized shots and pulled off some complicated scenes as he always does but he isn't a good story teller.

Die Hard had 3 films in the series, and thank god they launched the amazing box set before they started making the recent shit.

The ones after 3 are not Die Hard movies in my mind, just Bruce having a mid life crisis and the studio cashing in.

I only like Die Hard 1 and 2, I can appreciate 3 but I really hated the entire storyline, setting and for some reason, I hate Samuel L. Jackson more now than I did then. Like I don't even see his character anymore, I just see Samuel L. Jackson the actor. I would think the movie is a solid action film, but I don't know, can't really explain it. I also didn't appreciate how they turned McLane into this alcoholic whose wife left him and he moved back to NYC, had that whole school side storyline and had a different set of characters follow up on it. But I'd rate them as Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Live Free or Die Hard, and A Good Day to Die Hard.

For the sixth and last one they should have the main villain be a just-out-of-jail-from-the-first-film Theo, the only survivor of the Nakatomi terrorists, out for vengeance against McClane, Powell, and Holly. What better place to take said revenge than at the 30th anniversary celebration?

I liked Die Hard 5, although I liked Die Hard 4 a bit more.

They're just good, dumb, fun action movies. Just don't take them seriously.

As painful as the last one was, anyone that hasnt seen it should. Its amazing just how much Bruce didnt give a FUCK. One of the blandest performances by a once great action star and his 'son' was just as bad. Terrible all round.

Shame what the series has become.

The best thing about Die Hard was the sense of being trapped in a building full of terriorists and not wearing your shoes.

Take that away and you have a mediocre action film (like all the sequels). The series died after no.1 imo.

Personally I wouldn't be interested in a remake of the first one eventhough I enjoyed it when it came out.

It died after #3. There were no more movies made after that. Ever.

Quoted for truth LFODH aka Die Hard 4.0 in Australia was rubbish, the cgi sucked the life out of the film for me. Not to mention Justin Long arghhhhhhhh.

Not the least bit interested in DH 5.

They could have easily made many of Bruce Willis' films over the last nearly 20 years (save for the 6th sense) into a die hard film and they would have been better than 4 and 5.

The sixth and possibly the final film in the franchise, and confirmed to be the final film in the series that will have Bruce Willis portraying John McClane. So far, it has been revealed that John McClane will be traveling to Tokyo, courtesy of Nakatomi, to celebrate the thirty year anniversary of the Nakatomi Hostage Crisis in L.A., and there are hints that characters from other films in the series, including Holly Gennero and Al Powell, may make appearances.

I have long since wanted the story to come full circle and return to Nakatomi in some way, it might be a retread of the original but that would be better than the 4th and 5th films.
I would either like it to be a direct reboot of the novel that the film was based from (Willis is about the age of the character in the book now) but again it would be a retelling of the 1st film. Or do a storyline similar to that of the Die Hard game that came out on the ps2 and Nintendo Gamecube.

Hell yes, fuck they could have retooled The Kid as a romp where John McClane time travels back to a young John McClane and teaches him the importance of always wearing shoes whilst being bullied by a playground Hans Gruber and it still would have made a better Die Hard 4.0

I enjoyed the fourth one well enough. Would have been much improved by not having the scene where he's being chased by the fighter jet.

Fifth was pointless, though.

The reverse happened. Tears of the Sun was intended to be "Die Hard in the Jungle."

With A Vengeance was meant to be a different movie altogether. The reason the second half is so wonky is that's when the Die Hard universe elements really come into play.

1 (masterpiece) >> 4 > 3 >> 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>5 (piece of shit)

I loved the fourth movie (he stole the internet!! LOL), but I don't know how the made the 5th movie so bad; awful decisions on that one, hope the 6th returns to being awesome.

The 5th one has been playing here constantly in Southeast Asia, so I've seen it a few times. What kills me is McClane's character. He's not smart, and he's the prototypical "ugly American." He's an embarrassment to all the previous portrayals of the characters. A guy that had it together in the first four is now a bumbling fool that screws everything up. It's really bad.

About Jai Courtney, I don't think he was very good in the movie, either. However, he was awesome on Spartacus. I think he just needs the right role (he wasn't very impressive in Jack Reacher, either).

Live Free (or Die Hard 4.0 as it's called here) is the only one I haven't seen. I wish I could say that for Good Day though, talk about a mess of a film.

I already thought 4 was a horrible,, bad movie, so yeah, no chance in hell that I will watch 5 any time soon. Three movies to enjoy over and over again is enough for me personally, yep.

Honestly, it was one amazing movie they stretched out to a bunch of progressively shittier flicks. Die Hard was great, but it should never had been a franchise to begin with. Die Hard OG is the only one worth watching.

Die Hard 4 was alright. Unfortunate they haven't re-released the uncut version on Bluray (at least they didn't the last time I checked).

Bring back McTiernan (which is possible now), follow the formula of Die Hard 1 (McClane alone, odds totally against him, against the baddies in a dangerous situation), bring back the violence and bad language and give bruce willis a kick up the arse with the world's biggest boot

if this is all done, and the name "DIE HARDEST" does give me hope, then I'm in. if not, they can fuck right off.

From the description so far, it looks like my hopes above may well be realized. Let's see!
