The drama is DUMB on both side of the woke/anti-woke extreme spectrums - KCD 2 boycott

the word you are looking for is moderate, not centrist.
although they are often interchangeable as a centrist is by default a moderate, but not the other way around.
anyone who isn't a moderate is retarded, a grifter or has some sort of disorder... there's enough evidence out there to confirm that I think.

it doesn't take a massive IQ to be a moderate, but it takes a very low one to veer towards the extreme edges of the spectrum
Everyone that dosent belong to my "neutral" group and think like me is retarded ... thats very calm and moderate indeed.. very high quality IQ statement right there.

I found a great video that talks about pattern recognition. While some of us might be taking things a bit far and swearing off anything that's remotely woke, I think most of us just recognize patterns that signal poor quality. The latter being more likely the case.

My take on this situation is that I have been guilty of subscribing to many of these culture war YouTube channels and I am trying to reel myself back in. I get that woke idiocy is spreading to previously based game companies in and out of the USA, but it all becomes so tiring whenever by Smash JT, Vara Dark, and others like them are just nonstop woke bashing. When Vara Dark is actually streaming video games, she can be an enjoyable watch. O recently unsubbed from a lot of those types of youtubers, especially Jon Del Arroz and Melonie Mac who turned out to be real grifters, not the ones that are usually falsely labled as grifters.

it is still important to pay attention though because I do not want my limited dollars and Time going into woke slop like Miles Morales, TLOU2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ass Creed Shadows, and that new game Naughty Dog is working on.

I've had to do the same with reeling myself back on those channels. It just gets tiring and they just milk this culture war stuff like crazy. I get keeping an eye out and calling stuff out when it happens but they just go on and on. I'd like a more balance approach of talking about what you love and hate or searching for games, movies, and comics to love.

But KCD2? Pffffft, please. Just the usual suspects and their mob, which will have forgotten about it in a few weeks time for the the next faux outrage to latch onto, same as with every internet drama every single time.

It's been more than a week. People don't just simply forget, as an example of this there has been a resurgence of interest concerning Gamergate and Zoe Quinn, which has admittedly died down, but still a resurgence of something that happened about a decade ago.

I agree that KCD2 has little to no elements of this ideology. But the visceral reaction against it is pointing me to think that there is almost no tolerance left for this ideology. Especially amongst the youth who seem to be amassing a sort of 'counter-culture' against it.

I hear you about all those youtubers. To me, it's okay to listen to them, but don't take them seriously, at least not all the time.

However, I highly recommend Greg Owen (the video I shared on my last post). He talks about the industry and criticizes it but only when it's necessary. He also doesn't make a video every time a dev on Twitter trashes fans or curses out Elon Musk.

Yeah some of those YouTubers I am subbed to tell the truth but also upload two to three times a day when it would be better if they just combined their rants into one video a week, but also make videos where they talk about things they do like instead of just constant negativity.

What I really want are more channels like the happy video game nerd, but for Asian made content exclusively.

Lady Decade is a decent channel for content that is not just culture war as she does make videos for things she enjoys, while also making some call out videos.

Oh, I don't mean forget about games being misused for political messaging, that I hope won't be forgotten about for a while.
But this particular game - sure, a few will remember whatever perceived bollocks forever and the company is now dead to them, but those handful won't matter and the rest, even most of those now frothing at the mouth, will move on.

I'm subscribed to her as well. She really goes in depth with her analysis and her criticism. I like her a lot.

Some of these rage baiting youtube channels should be careful not to do it too much or people are going to eventually get tired.

I found a great video that talks about pattern recognition.

It's a good video that lays out the basic argument of personal preference: tastes differ, are subjective, and do not require justification. I hold that position. But it's contradictory for him to say justification is unnecessary and then justify that these patterns are "a reliable predictor of low quality." Quality concerns can be justifiable, but that undercuts the personal preferences argument by capitulating that one's tastes can be invalidated if they cannot be justified. That said, I'll reiterate that the video is informative and recommend others watch it, regardless of my critique.

If one's preference prioritizes quality, then the referent of the pattern is irrelevant. However, the referent is important to those who reject it as that informs their preference.

Whenever someone says this was done for "modern audiences" i instantly roll my eyes because it tends to be an indicator of a project that prioritizes identity politics and not good storytelling. But, one movie where the director said such thing and still ended up being a good film was the new Dungeons and Dragons movie with Chris Pine. So, while some patterns may be an indicator of bad quality that doesn't mean it is always true.

What do you think? Is this a good approach?

I agree that the term 'modern audience' can be indicative of the things that could make one roll their eyes. However, the term is used in a different sense regarding marketing.

Resident Evil 2 Remake could have been accurately promoted as 'remade for modern audiences' purely due to its nature. I think we would agree that, in this context, such a statement wouldn't imply any ideological intent. We would assume that 'modern' is being used synonymously with 'new'—referring to people who never experienced the original.

So, from what I gather regarding the director you mentioned, the term may have been used in a similar way—as shorthand for making the film more accessible to a wider audience unfamiliar with DnD.

What do you think? Is this a good approach?
If what you're doing works for you then that's all that matters.

Right.

Anyway, it's going take a while but if we start seeing games that on the surface look "woke" but turn out to be great then people might start not being as apprehensive anymore. Ghost of Yotei and Intergalactic have i think that potential. But, i can't deny i have some concerns. We shall see.

Are you looking forward to these games? Do you have concerns of your own? I haven't been following the topic that closely, but do you think there's people at both ends of the woke spectrum or do you think is much more complicated than that?

When you say, "looks 'woke' but turns out to be great", do you also mean, "and turns out to be not 'woke' at all"? If that's the case then, maybe, but with a high degree of certainty I believe this doesn't apply to Intergalactic.
Are you looking forward to these games?
I wished for a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. I wished for a new IP from Naughty Dog. I wish I didn't use that monkey's paw.
Do you have concerns of your own?
In this context, concern suggests unsureness, so I don't have any concerns for Intergalactic. I would need more information about Ghost of Yotei.

'Woke' is a deviation from the norm, and the rejection of 'woke' in favor of returning to normalcy is not the opposite extreme. That's a false equivalency. That being said, within the confines of gamer preference, it's not complicated.

No. I meant it could be "woke" but still turned out to be great. Just because a piece of media is progressive doesn't mean it can't be good. A great example of this is Arcane on Netflix.

I had to look for the meaning of monkey's paw. But, I kinda still don't get it. Do you mean that even though you wished for these games, you wished it hadn't gotten the negative reaction?

Edit - Okay, now that I understand what you meant, you wished it wasn't Intergalactic? What did you have in mind? Savage Starlight?

Well said. I think people sometimes don't realize this.

Wishing on a monkey's paw is when a wish comes true, but in a very regrettable way or with dire consequences.

Like if you wished for a million dollars and then your children were killed in an automobile accident due to a manufacturer's defect, so you were awarded $1 million in a lawsuit.

Or, in an arguably worse turn of events, you wished for a new IP from Naughty Dog, and they announced Intergalactic.

We agree. However, to determine the quality of something, certain criteria must be met that prevent it from being rejected at first glance. For example, consider chocolate-covered crickets: they may provide nutritional benefits and even taste delicious, but those qualities are irrelevant to someone uninterested in eating insects.

Making a wish using a monkey's paw results in unintended consequences, as does making a deal with the devil. I was hoping for a continuation of Jin's story, and Naughty Dog's new IP to interest me. "Be careful what you wish for."

So, the trick is to make something appealing regardless of progressivism or not?

We'll see. Naughty Dog may still surprise you in the gameplay department. That's one area I can't fault TLOU II on. And, from the looks of it, Intergalactic may be their take on the souls genre. Are you souls game fan?

Generally speaking, yes. I think it's easier to do without it, though.

'Fan' is a strong word. They're an acquired taste.
