The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

Er, they've been doing that since at least 1997. FFXIII is not exclusively funded by SE and FFVIIR won't be either.

Even so, they need to hurry up but I guess you can't rush a masterpiece.

Problem with PSP is storage. Crisis Core was a fraction of the length of a full FF, and apparently things had to be cut (voice tracks, etc) to fit it on the UMD. Considering the fact that even the 3 and 4 remakes had voice acting, there's no way in hell 7+ remakes would exclude it. Factor it all together, I don't see any way they could possibly fit on handhelds without using multiple UMDs/carts. Have we seen any multi-disk handheld games yet?

i think there is one multiple umd game.

also multiple disk for the game could end up being a deterrent for piracy since the large size would make them spend money to get a bigger memory stick or go through the hassle of deleting and copying new disks to the stick.

I'm sure if it's in the works for PS3 there would be plenty of internal politics over whether to announce it early on (to spur interest in the console platform) or only when it's fairly close to release (so people don't get pissed off about waiting for years). Something like the tech demo that was shown would be a fairly good compromise between the two, really.

If it's being made for the PS3 it probably wouldn't be ready for release until 2011, which is a wild guess.

Well, I could only imagine that Sony/ SE knows how many people wants this remake and that they are WILLING drop alot of ponies for this remake. Shyt I would buy 2 (im a collector). It's just interesting that they haven't done this yet but I can understand why not since they have FF XIII abd FFXIII: Versus. I assume they could just use the white engine for FF VII remake :D

Well, they've invested enough into the white engine that I'd imagine they wouldn't want to just use it on two games.

True, but that's possible because they've got pretty much every available man working on it. I guess if FFXIII does come out this December or March 09 they could move the guys back onto Versus XIII and then the rest of the FFXIII staff get working on FFVII:RE. Then when Versus is done move everyone over to FFVII:RE.

But it will take so many years before the FFVII: RE project starts to ramp up that it would be insane to announce it so soon. I really want a FFVII remake, but the earliest we could hope for an announcement is a few years from now.

I pray I'm wrong tho :p
You're forgetting about Kingdom Hearts III. There's no way Square-Enix is going to be passing that one up.

Well if they make it for Wii (which I hope they don't) they could take some guys from the main Kingdom Hearts team after Versus is done, and maybe combine them with the guys working on the handheld versions. But yeh, if Nomura wants to make a PS3 KH that will also slow down any potential FFVII: RE. It's very unlikely that a remake will actually occur imo and it definitely wont be ready for many years if they do decide to do it.

Another year, another E3, and yet again talk of FFVII Remake.

Why must everyone hurt me so of such a beautiful far off dream?

I was just gonna say, No E3 is complete without a FFVII remake rumour.

hmmm, will i watch it in HOME or on computer.

In addition to FFXIII, i hope SE finally unveil their MMO game. been waiting a long time to see it.

really wonder if this is it???

Well they already had the Playstation Day and Ubidays broadcasted within Home so no wonder E3 2008 is the next big Home event.
Unfortunately it's something that just a few will be able to see but I'm sure they'll put the video of the conference on the store like they did last year. Actually I can't believe that E3 is almost here, I feel there will be big and unexpected announcements so can't wait :D

If they put the conference up like last year please for the love of christ put it up in HD...seriously.

The mania is almost palpable now. I can taste it.

Yup they should be able to compress the conference in a 2GB video at 720p.

I don't think they'll show their MMO until TGS.

Shane (1up) just said that Mirror's Edge is PS3 lead, so maybe we'll see some live gameplay at Sony's E3.

it's a UE3 game. So it's not Lead Platform

Fake edit: Unless it means something else (aka timed exclusive ?)

That doesn't mean anything.

Unreal Engine 3 was demoed for the first time on PS3. Since UT3 came out, UE3 games on PS3 have looked and ran perfectly fine.

They look and run much better on the 360, though :(

Only Epic (with help from Sony) managed to make a good looking PS3 game using the UE3. UT3 runs better on 360 (Ok, slightly better) but well ...

Don't get me wrong, i'm sure Mirror Edge will be pretty good on PS3 and all! But i'm convinced the game will run better on 360 because of UE3.

Wasn't Mirror's Edge running on a propietary engine developed by DICE?

I can't seem to find the proof now but I remember reading that a couple months ago when the first teaser hit.

EDIT: I just read they're indeed using UE 3 instead of Frostbite. Yay.

I can't really think of any big UE3 games on PS3 since UT3 though. Just Army of Two-- and that was a pretty good port actually. Am I missing any?

That's what I thought as well. Don't know where people are getting the idea it's running on UE3.

UT3 on 360 has better textures, better framerate and supports splitscreen play (which apparently was not possible on the Triple)

Yeah, but that's because...they spent more time/effort on it.

Some people were using it as a showcase for UE3. To show that the engine is capable of doing very different things and not only games with Bald Space Marines.

Obviously, i can be horribly wrong

UT3 on 360 came out 7 months after UT3 on PS3.

yea but basically every game not called Burnout that comes out on 360/PS3 looks better and runs better on the 360. But anyway, i figured that would be the first response. Personally? I'm not buying it. 2 years in and 360 titles from top to bottom all look, run better than their PS3 counterparts.

Anyway, yea ... I hope we see some God of War 3 gameplay. And THANK GOD it's not running on UE3 - i hate that engine

I'm just gonna say one thing to ppl that keep saying KH3 will show up on the Wii. *laugh*

That is all. A spin-off of KH, maybe sure. The actual sequel to KH2? *laughs*

That is all.
