The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

:lol I definitely think it's heading to the Wii now. Yoichi Wada has no console loyalities, it's just strictly business. As a matter of fact, you can't take their word for anything anymore, just have to wait until the game in question is actually released.

i couldnt say it better. sucks. but its true.

One thing I would like to see is anything new from Jonathan Mak. Been playing Everyday Shooter again and I'm still in awe of it's audiovisuals and simple yet fun gameplay.

I think he works alone, so I don't know if it's too early. I heard he did already know what he wanted to do though, and that it was an interesting concept. I'm not sure it's totally clear Sony will be funding his next, though..(?)

Sure, but as great as Everyday Shooter, the That Game Company and Pixel Junk games are - in my opinion they're much better suited for GDC than E3. I honestly doubt that downloadable games are selling consoles yet and that's what Sony should focus on at E3.

A jaw-dropping God of War III Trailer, plz.

BTW, that infamous trailer was meh. It looked like a mix of prototype and crackdawn with shitty grey/brown visuals and bald dude. Do not want.

Most of the new games Microsoft announced yesterday were XBLA, so I don't know why Sony can't find time for their PSN stuff too, especially when it looks as different (and in some cases, as gorgeous) as it does. The Last Guy has to be shown for the first time there too, I think.

What is with Sony losing all its exclusives? Do they not care about exclusive content anymore? They obviously arent willing to make deals for exclusive DLC. Fallout 3 and GTA4 taught us that.

After Microsoft had such a strong showing is there any way Sony could have enough to counter?

Why do people keep saying that Microsoft had "such a strong showing"? They had an AMAZING trump card with Final Fantasy XIII but their whole conference was pretty bland, and at times approached to levels of redonkulous with Duffy or whatever she was ("I've never enjoyed singing this song so much").

Gears of War 2 tingled my bingles but the rest was ok, nothing mindblowing. Final Fantasy XIII blew socks away and suddenly MS had a "strong" conference? Hm. I'll grant that it had a super megaton announcement.

I think Sony's conference might be more evenly strong, but who knows? If they bomb, they bomb.

I want fucking BOMBZ dropped today after what happened yesterday. I DO NOT want to see the same old video's that we've seen from LittleBigPlanet (as awesome as it will be), Killzone 2 etc and other games that have been in development for 2 years.

This. Resistance and Infamous are not substitutes for good 3rd party exclusives. Give us some RPGs Sony. Give us TRICO. Hell, anything but the same old thing you've shown us in the past 2 years. And while at it, confirm FF versus XIII exclusivity by publishing it.

I never said that Sony should focus their press conference on a new Jonathan Mak game just that I hope they show anything on what he's working on next.

If I remember correctly, J Mak has a multiple PS3 exclusivity deal (not sure how many games) so I'm guessing Sony has been throwing a few dollars his way.

Strange thing to say. If they were third party games, they'd probably be considered 'good 3rd party exclusives', I think. Games are games, first party, third party..

Just woke up. can't believe I just read this. You would be crying if those two games were announced for the 360.

Good game is good game. PERIOD

They're okay to me but not exactly the kind of popular and well-known IPs. Not the kind like Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Final Fantasy. These are the IPs Sony should at least be able to time exclusive but they can't even do that.

I won't trust me. I'm not into FPS so things like Resistance and Bioshock, as nice as they are, are not my top priority. Infamous is an unproven IP.

Replicant said:

It would be a shame if Sony only secured 'well known IPs'....and I think Resistance has secured its own following, and did pretty well for itself on its first outing. Infamous is from a good developer.

All the franchises you listed were new at some point. Finding the next big things is what all publishers should be trying to do. Whether they come from a third party or a first party is kind of immaterial.

I get your point, I think if Sony could have done anything (reasonably) to secure FFXIII, they should have. But maybe there was nothing they could do. In the mean time they have their own publishing agenda to pursue, and it's a large one.

I still don't know why people are so doom and gloom. Before that fucking square bomb the only exclusives that looked appealing at all (to me anyway) at the MS conference was Gears 2, Fable 2 and Infinite Undiscovery. Until Wada came out on the stage and dropped the FFXIII bomb I was like meh no reason to turn my 360 on until October. Yes There was other stuff shown but nothing exclusive (I.e. Fallout3, RE5, etc). The dashboard revamp, and avatars were meh at best and the eye toy type rip offs casual games were laughable.

I have every system this Gen and I still have more to look forward to on my PS3 l compared to the other 2 (unless Nintendo shows off some good stuff today). R2, Infamous, Killzone2, LBP, GOW3, WKC, Uncharted 2, Disgea 3, etc. If Sony can come out today and show off those and give us firm dates that aren't hopefully to far off, and maybe show off a couple of new things I'd be more then fucking happy.:D

Microsoft's was average, Sony will probably match it

"Average"? I would hate to see your definition of above average. I am multiplatform and have no particular loyalty other than playing good games. I doubt anyone else has described MS's presentation as "average".
Denial-not just a river in Egypt.

I know, but I would go so far as to say downloadable games should be relegated to a highlight reel segement about "what's next on PSN" at a press conference. Unless they also come out for PSP, then maybe you could have the developer on stage and talk about the game.

Come on seriously? Aside from the FF13 bomb it was fucking laughable at points man, ask anyone in the MS thread. You must of not seen all the casual focus part of their presentation. The first part rocked though and then the BOMB!

Sony's E3 conference this year isn't going to be as great as it was last year. I predict a really bad E3 conference showing something shameful (maybe the new sixaxis witch people will say its a wii mote copy), showing the games we already are tired of waiting for being released (like killzone 2 or lbp).

He probably cried all day yesterday and ran all out of bitter tears.

what? he has reason to be disappointed, no need to be such a douche

they've been whoring stuff like resistance 2, killzone 2 and LBP at loads of events now, if they show just those and nothing new their conference will be boring we dont need to see much more from those, just let the developers get on with it and then have another media blowout just before the game hits
they need to concentrate on fresh new stuff that we've not already seen a million times before

Other than the Final Fantasy announcement, there haven't shown ANY new games.

Sony will probably deliver a better conference if they at least show TRICO or GoWIII aka something we are yet to see.

I have a feeling we're gonna be told that WipeoutHD will hit the store this week. Am i bonkers?

Yes. If Pixeljunk Eden is the first new game with trophies and Wipeout HD is supposed to have them too (don't know where I heard that) and since Sony doesn't release 2 big anticipated games at the same time (that might be lie), then Wipeout hitting thursday isn't going to happen. I'm willing to bet it's coming in August so they can space out their downloadable games.

has any other news agency besides IGN said what their impressions of the MS conference was? IGN said besides the FFXIII megaton it was pretty boring. They weren't even impressed with the new dashboard GUI. I thought it was cool personally (minus the ugly avatars)

Until Wada tapped Mattrick on the shoulder, average might have been generous from a presentational POV. Message-board dramarama saved the day. From a games POV - 21 were shown or namedropped, there were 10 new games shown (6 XBLA), 8 new exclusives (5 of them XBLA) - a decent showing numbers-wise, but with Lips, and SceneIt and You're in the Movies etc. dominating the new exclusive showings it was sort of tempered.

LBP is coming out in 3 months, and it's one of Sony's biggest games this year, if not the biggest. You can't expect them not to make a big deal out of it at E3, and crikey, if any game deserves a fuss it's LBP!

I doubt there will be any more announcements from Square-Enix for the rest of E3.

They have their own event and then TGS in Japan, so most likely anything new will be saved for those events. The only reason why they announced FF13 for 360 is cause it's NA and Europe only, it wouldn't make sense to announce it anywhere else.

So Sony will most likely be showing White Knight Story instead, and a bunch of PSN games and Home.

I hope they show some RPGs since that's the point of most people's contention.

I thought they did very well in addressing the more serious gamers expectations, then turning around and addressing the "Wii" casual factor. Two birds with one stone.
Now, back to Sony, they hopefully will have a solid release date for HOME, a playable new demo of Killzone, R2, and some other big titles, and I'll bet they hit the "casual" segment as hard as Microsoft did yesterday.

it took a while for people to realize that FF13 is probably 2-3 years away on 360, and then Netflix deal which gives Netflix subscribers access to unpopular SD movies took a while for people realize...

What you are left is avatars, singstar/xmb, and full game installations to quiet your drive.

Which is still pretty damn nice for 360 owner. Especially since none of that was expected.

Now Sony will show 10 exclusive games, but they have all been shown before so it cant blow people away... if they want to make huge E3 impact (which doesnt really matter, it is games that matter) they will show something completly new...

At the end, it doesnt really matter - the fact that we have seen LBP, R2, MS2, Socom, WHD and other games before, does not make them any less attractive... just not an megaton.

Sony phone/psp.

GT-5 damage modeling.

FF VII exclusive.

Bioshock something or other.

Who the heck knows. Fun to guess though.

To be frank, there would be no way to totally ignore for the loss of exclusity on FF13.

Because it is a lengendary, historical moment on the game industry. Not the "OMFG xxx game is great" could cover.

Sony could only do something to compensate it for its lovers.

But people will remember it as a brilliant conference because it ended with such a bang.

If sony want to make their show better, then they're going to have to make a pretty huge announcement. If Sony can annlounce either a Kojima productions game, ZOE3, Team CO game or a FFVII remake then they could lessen the damage that the FFXIII announcement did.
