The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

Considering retailers are already taking preorders for it, and they hinted at it on the back of the Chains of Olympus booklet...

Ah yeah good point. But i already up myself for a disappointment

I'm looking forward to little big planet, but I honestly don't see casuals giving two shits about lbp. Are casuals going to spend hours on end making their own levels?

i actually think they will. I like to liken it to Myspace/Facebook and "personalization" etc, etc. not to mention the def. Youtubeness to it all... I can totally see it catching on and becoming a sort of "oh yeah? Well look at the level I made, muhahahaha." craze. Anyway, anyone and everyone that catches a glimpse of the game stops and stares, so to speak, so I'm hopeful that'll translate to many, at least, giving the game a shot. :D

Yes. Seriously.

If you don't want to make your own levels, then you can always download the best user levels and filter your search results similar to youtube (rating, download count, etc).

Some people act as though there's no appeal to the game if you're not into the creation aspect, and that's simply not true at all.

I will definitely play around with the creation aspect, but if I only have a limited time, then I'll just hop on and play some of the best new levels with friends in co-op.

You compared it to youtube though, which took something that most people wanted to be a part of (film) and gave them a venue to share it. Is there really that many people who aren't already involved in gaming that were interested in creating their own games? On top of that platformers have been largely being ignored in the market as of late, so you think that this game is going to be popular with casual who aren't interested in the creative aspect of it...

But if you look at most youtube users, they don't provide content. They don't have the desire or the hardware to make their own movies.

Most people hop on youtube to watch content.

I don't think LBP is about attracting "non-gamers", but rather attracting ALL gamers (hardcore, oldschool, casual, you name it). I think it's very accessible and is certainly attractive to a very wide audience. The premise of the game itself makes it such that there's almost a limitless amount of content to play at your disposal, so I can see this as a game that lots of people will own because they see it as an experience that they can play for potentially years to come.

No major releases for the next few months? Pop in LBP and see what's new. Play with your friends in 4 person online co-op. It's such a great concept.

So I finally found this thread after searching for this. Its much harder to find threads without the forums search functionality. Anyway, here are some of the things am expecting at E3 this year: 1) At least 2 MMO announcements. One from Ncsoft and also from Zipper. 2) New RPG Titles to be unveiled and a few more at TGS. 3) Another deal might happen between yet another major third party studio and Sony for an exclusive title/s. 4) More FPS,s and videos of every game that has been announced. 5) And finally, some announcement about PSN and a few surprises.

I'm thinking the same thing. I think that MMOs coupled with HOME could be one of the Sony's big messages from E3. Ignoring this possible PS3-mote clone of course. :P

While Sony have the NCSoft partnership that will likely produce one PS3 exclusive title (that they co-develop?) and perhaps a couple of ports that would work on the PS3. Say a Guild Wars port (or perhaps spin -off?) and maybe City Of Heroes.

But as well as Zipper and what may or may not be a SOCOM MMO, Sony also have SOE. I think that SOE should have The Agency, DC Universe Online there in some form and perhaps something else to announce.

I think that Sony Japan might have something in the MMO or online space in development but I think we'll see what Sony Japan is working on at TGS rather than E3.

But couple that with whatever third party offerings might be at E3 (a PS360 port of Codemasters LOTR MMO?) and I think MMOs could be a big talking point this time next week.

True Fantasy online?!?!?! Or does MS own the IP?

I have a feeling Sony is going to steal the show. Too many big titles are going to be shown:

God of War 3
Final Fantasy 13
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
Little Big Planet
MotorStorm 2
InFamous
Wipeout HD
Team ICO (maybe)

As well as whatever that BBC editor saw that said looked amazing and blew away all the other PS3 games.

That lineup is just insane.

No one is really sure at this point but the general school of thought is TGS will likely be the place that Sony Japan will premiere their titles.

And considering how sparse their offerings were last year that may not be a bad move.

Well, The Agency wil be there, I can't remember a Sony event in past year or month without that game present. As for what else they are working on ( DC MMO and others), I dont think we will be seeing or hearing anything about thouse until a later date. For the Japanese studios, I dont think they will be tasked with creating an MMO even though its in their league but it will require too much time and resources. Furthermore, since we haven't heard anything from any of those studios, its safe to conclude that they have been working on a few unannounced rpgs and some PSN games which might be revealed at TGS later this year.

Well at this point in time, Sony might be trying to go after some wrpgs since their Japan studio and other third party Japan have them covered.

You have your expectations set pretty HIGH IMO. I know FXIII have been confirmed to be there but KH3 ? If anything, TGS bro. And as for price cuts, earliest would have to be next year spring or fall.

Hope you were joking with the new SKU thing.

I agree they're pretty high. I'm trying to think of the surprises, if any, they could pull out during this year's E3.

We can expect the press conference to be a lot of charts and Sony execs flaunting how expensive their suits are.

Actually, Final Fantasy has been confirmed for E3. Hope we at least get a new trailer or something though.

I really believe them when they say PS2 downloadable games are not coming. At least not for another 3 or so years.

FFXIII Trailer shown behind closed doors - again

A couple more new RPG's shown that we will not see for 2 years (I tell you, the last couple years of the PS3 lifespan will be AWESOME for RPG players, repeat of PS2)

DC Online officially shown off

Xenogears, Einhander, Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Vagrant Story and all PSone FF titles announced for PSN U.S. store and available the same day they announce them.
one can dream

Isn't SOE busy working on the Agency and Free Realms ?

And DC online has been being worked on forever. They already are starting to show it off to the media and about half of my comics I picked up this week had a one page teaser for it.

It's going to be interesting to see what certain studios that we haven't heard from in a while are doing.

I'm eager to see what Factor5 are doing for Sony (and what their Brash game is) and of course what's next for Ready At Dawn. Though I suspect that RAD might be developing a multi format title rather than another game for Sony.

Freak said:

I believe the current talk is that Incognito are developing a Twisted Metal game for the PS3.

What isn't known however is if Incognito are developing a smaller PSN (like Wipeout HD) TM title while Jaffe's Eat, Sleep, Play develop the 'proper' sequel.

Or whether Incognito are actually helping Jaffe's team develop the game seeing as his new studio isn't that big.

ZeroTolerance said:

SOE is a fairly large set up with many studios. They even have a studio in Los Angeles that makes cell phone games (GOW mobile) and net browser games (Hancock) IIRC.

Maybe I'm the only one that cares, but Sega has 3 (maybe 4) upcoming titles for PS3;
Valkyrie of the Battlefield
Ryu Ga Gotoku: Kenan!
and Ryu Ga Gotoku 3
maybe... Sonic Unleased will be good too?

I'm hoping to hear more about the english versions of the three first games mentioned.

my predicition is there gonna make a new psp with 16gb sdhc storage memory and a another slot to add your own memory. no umd drive fully online compatble olny can download games online from the ps store. and it will be marketed as a second brand to the psp maybe psp wifi*. also i think its gonna look the same as the slim psp.

You mentioned before that "from what you could gather..." so is this just you guessing or do you have some decent sources?

edit: oh great he was just banned lol *waits for E3*

Besides the expected PS3 stuff, I want to see some indication that PSP is still a vital platform. There's enough processing power in the PSP to continue through 2010. Increased integration with Playstation Network and some quality software is really all it would take to bring a lot of excitement back to the system (and maybe some decent software marketing).

Its troubling that Sony seems more concerned with cameras and GPS add-ons. Unless they build it into the hardware, I will not touch that stuff.
