The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

I'm expecting at LEAST two megatons from Sony. And I mean megatons of you-know-what on xbox 360 calibur.

Yeah, I am expecting a lot from Sony at this years E3...and after seeing MS's conference if I'm going to be spending $300+ on their system they better deliver.

I do have high hopes...for some reason.

IGN has a great feed. High quality, but it does have a bit of a delay.
The delay seemed random too, sometimes it was 15 minutes, once I couldn't get closer than within an hour... in the end I gave up and watched the whole thing on some JustinTV stream channel 3;

I think they will talk a lot about Bluray and the "Playstation" brand.

I hope not. They need a whole sack of awesome to make an impact like MS did yesterday. People are saying that what MS announced wasn't that exciting (with the FF news being the only biggie) but they had enough 'new' stuff to keep the interweb buzzing.

Sony needs something stupendous not only from a fanboi perspective (Yes a new Ico game would be ace but how does that affect the mass-market? It ain't going to sell systems) but something to push the hardware into more homes.

Fuggedaboutit.

The only thing MS really 'brought' games-wise was the FFXIII announcement...everything else was predictable (the cool stuff - Gears 2, Fallout3, Banjo) or (IMO) relatively unexciting. On that front Sony doesn't have mountains to climb.

And they brought, HDD, install, mii and home ripoffs, new dashboard, pretty big imo.

Yes, they were nice announcements (if very mii-too)..I was honing in on games there though. Sony will have services announcements too, some of it catchup ala MS (i.e. video/movie downloads), and some of it pushing their pre-existing plans (Home).

So, about the rumor of KHIII being on PS3...

How many of you guys, after what happened yesterday, think it still can happen?

:lol I definitely think it's heading to the Wii now. Yoichi Wada has no console loyalities, it's just strictly business. As a matter of fact, you can't take their word for anything anymore, just have to wait until the game in question is actually released.

They need to bring Hme out and quick. Stop screwing around with it. They also better have a similar Netflix announcement. Right behind the FFXIII announcement Netflix was the most talked about thing in the office yesterday.

To try and save face and make a comeback they need all or at least most of the following including the above.

1) New Team Ico announcement and trailer
2) White Knight Chronicles - This fucking year Sony, not next year, this year. If i'm playing Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant on the 360 this year you better deliver something.
3) God of War 3 better be spectacular
4) Something good for the PSP, and no, asking us to buy yet another one doesn't count.
5) FUCKING SQUARE PSONE GAMES ON PSN IN THE U.S.!!!
6) Kingdom Hearts 3 on PS3. Don't care if its multiplatform but Sony needs the announcement now.

Given Sony's track record though I doubt we will get a quarter of that, and just get a hour presentation on their stupid new motion controller that no one will give a shit about.

Agreed on Home. An expansion of the beta would be nice right about now.

Their 'netflix' will be the video/movie store. The introduction of that is as much as you can expect right now.

Re. a new controller..that was one thing I was kind of hoping to see from either MS or Sony or both this year. So I would like to see that - if it were to be technologically interesting, and were to represent a big part of their strategy going forward. If there were just a couple of supporting games of dubious appeal then, yeah, I wouldn't care...but if a console can give me a fresh interface (that progresses toward standardisation quickly) and my HD calibre production values, that would be awesome. But a tall order, methinks.

Anyone think that Sony will be showing off FF Versus XIII during their press conference? The only thing that can get some positive mindshare off the devastating loss of exclusivity of FFXIII proper is the announcement that FFvXIII is still exclusive and will be coming out this fall.

lol, not gonna happen.

Nomura quoted recently that Versus is in no condition to be shown due to so much of the staff being carted off to help with other projects. The CG team is working on ACC, and the development team is helping with XIII, so Versus is not very high on the pipeline in turns of priority right now.

Stop polluting my mind with negativity. FFvXIII will be shown during the Sony press conference followed by an announcement that it will be released this fall World Wide with the budget price of $40.

;_;

My bet for a potential big showing- the PS3 exclusive Rockstar game

Resistance 2 and Infamous both look amazing. I mean REALLY amazing.

Mirror's Edge also looked great and that was demo'd on PS3 I think.

Too early I think. They could namedrop it though.

The fruits of the NCSoft partnership would be likely to show up, surely..although PC ports are going to be the obvious result. Between that and DC Universe I expect them to push a bit of a MMORPG angle.

Heavy Rain ought to be a perfect 'wow' game, but apparently they're holding it back until Leipzig :(

I'm personally hoping for a new LBP demo. LBP demos are always a crowd pleaser, and they've some stuff to show (like AI 'brains' etc.). It's their strongest card IMO, and it's coming very soon, so I hope they give it a proper airing.

I want fucking BOMBZ dropped today after what happened yesterday. I DO NOT want to see the same old video's that we've seen from LittleBigPlanet (as awesome as it will be), Killzone 2 etc and other games that have been in development for 2 years.

New games
Exclusives
BLOW MY FUCKING SOCKS OFF SONY.

No time to save anything for later. If you have it, show it! SHOW US SOME NEW STUFF.

LBP is awesome, so i KZ2. But we need the NEW stuff!

What is with Sony losing all its exclusives? Do they not care about exclusive content anymore? They obviously arent willing to make deals for exclusive DLC. Fallout 3 and GTA4 taught us that.

After Microsoft had such a strong showing is there any way Sony could have enough to counter?

What ever happened to that Sony and Namco Bandai merge, creating a company called Cellius? I remember 3 games that were "assumed" to be in development by this company, but later was debunked; Brave Arms, Chain Limit, and Second Season 01.

I predict that today, at the end of Sony's conference, Tretton or Hirai will be wrapping things up, "So, that's all we had to show you today...", and suddenly Wada comes on stage and taps him in the shoulder.

Wait... I don't think GAF could handle that. :lol

They lost one (big) third party exclusive yesterday.

Microsoft has lots of third party exclusives this generation too. Sony just had more 'big ones' to lose.

It is the way of things these days - it has been for some time, actually.

Both companies still fund their own projects. Sony funds a lot of their own projects, so I'm not sure where you're getting the whole "not willing to make exclusive deals".

Oh snap, I completely forgot about DC Universe. If they show that off and its all kinds of fuck-ton-awesome that would be a saving grace for me. And launching this holiday would help.

It's a 2009 title.

It should undoubtedly be there, or at E3, though. It's on the cover of the current Edge.

One thing I would like to see is anything new from Jonathan Mak. Been playing Everyday Shooter again and I'm still in awe of it's audiovisuals and simple yet fun gameplay.
