I killed the guy that tries to recruit you for the Dark Brotherhood, is there anyway to still join? And can I still join the Blades if I didn't do it at the beginning of the game? I'm just kind of running out of things to do.. haha

you could *try* exploring
the basement of the abandoned house in cheydinal. But the guy that recruits you is probably the most important story character throughout the entire dark brotherhood so... I'm guessing you won't be able to.

Something strange just happened to me. I'm on my way to Kvatch and I see these things falling out of the sky. At first I think it's some kind of precipitation but they make an audiable noise when they hit the ground. I turn my horse around and see one on the ground. I examine it and it's a freaking tomato.

TOMATOS FLYING OUT OF THE SKY.

WTF is up with that?

Also, is there any way to heal a horse? Prior Mabel's horse is nearly dead and I really like her. :(

Horses don't heal naturally? What about if you wait an hour? I know that will heal you to full.

My horse has been in a lot of fights and I've not noticed anything to point that he is dying. =\ How do you check your horse's health?

When you're going to mount them and it shows the horse shoe symbol it'll also show the health just above it if it's not full.

Mine just needs one shot from an arrow to die. She died twice last night but thankfully I had a quick save just before a point where bandits attack so I avoided it. Still, I need to heal her somehow. She's been in a lot of scrapes since I left Imperial City (fucking trolls) and she's on her last legs now. :(

I think fighting the entire arena when you first start is a terrible idea. I'm on level 13, and I just completed it. Also, after you finish
you can fight monsters (randomly I'm assuming) every week
You probably went through the arena at the optimal time. You'll be getting more bang for your buck
fighting the weekly battles against a variety of monsters, as you continue to progress in level.

I started the arena battles early on in the game, and achieved a few ranks, but then stepped away from it for awhile and focused on the main quest line. Unfortunately, I didn't return to the arena until I was level 24. By that time, the system was capped, so
once I defeated the Gray Prince, my only option now is to fight Minotaur Lords every week. They are a pain in the ass, especially since they continue to get stronger along with your character. Haven't been able to beat three of them at once yet.

Xenon,

Did you try sliding the difficulty down a bit? It will solve the too dangerous to explore issue.

No, I didn't want to mess with it. My pride forbids it. =) Does anyone know exactly what it effects? Does it just make things easier or harder to kill or does it actually change how the game plays? With a game like this I wish they offered a larger range of options for adjusting the difficulty.

Man, Orcish armor looks sweet in this game.

I am now a

, I did not even know i got the disease (must have happened when playing late a night and I did not notice. I did a quick search though this thread and did not find how how to cure it but I did notice some one say "IT IS A PAIN IN THE ASS"...

Anyone want to link me to a post (if there is one) or tell me how, the "PAIN IN THE ASS" has me scared :(

(I dont have a save to restart, I dont think I would restart anyway)

Can anyone tell me the various types of heavy armour and what are the better ones? I just found some nice orcish greaves and was wondering if there was anything better. Thanks :)

Also, speaking of the arena... there is a terrible glitch in the Grand Championship match.

If you complete the quest for the Gray Prince, and bring him the details about his birth from Crowhaven, he will become so depressed by the news that he'll intentionally throw the match and let you kill him in the arena without ever putting up a fight.

The only problem with this, is that the game won't allow you to just walk away and say "no, I refuse to strike you down if you won't fight me." You HAVE to kill him before the door will open and let you leave the arena. That's not fair, and defeats the purpose of role-playing a character of light. I should have been allowed the choice of walking away and refusing to fight him, once it became apparent that he just wanted to die out of depression and not honor.

Now here's the real issue - once I killed him, it was considered murder... and the dark brotherhood came to visit me in the night. Also, I recieved a 1000 bounty on my head from the Imperials, and had to pay it or face prison. So now, I have a little number "1" beside the infamy ratings, which is ridiculous, since my character is a holy crusader and has sworn an oath to never commit a crime.

Not that big a deal, I know.... but from a role-playing aspect, it bothers me.

Can someone answer my question about Silver bows and arrows? Can I just use a silver bow to fight ghosts or do I need silver arrows exclusively?

Definitely. But I did talk to someone on the Elder Scrolls forum who completed the arena and didn't have the same problem... so it must be some kind of bizarre glitch that I triggered somehow.

Another funny glitch is the Slash and Smash weapon shop. Everytime I walk through the door, the Orc immediately drops a book on the floor. And since my disposition is high, he always has this goofy grin on his face. It's like he's wanking off to Orc porn, and quickly throws it down behind the counter whenever I enter the shop. :lol

So I've played about 20 hours of the game and I'm only lvl 4! I've only explored one dungeon however I've been doing a ton or random quests and a few for the fighter's guild. I'm having a blast with the game and I haven't even started with the main story line, good job Bethesda!

They do... by quite a bit.

I had a full set of Dwemer armor back in Morrowind, but won't touch the stuff in Oblivion. Looks too much like condom man.

I am loving this game but the thing I miss the most is the lack of great houses (or viable alternative because this isn't morrowind provence, obviously). The overreaching factions struggling for power and having a kind of cold war - and also the vast differences in architecture depending on the background of the towns inhabitants.

Sure, the buildings in Anvil are a bit different from the ones in Bruma or Leylawiin, but they're still very "medieval-fantasy" looking. No giant crab houses or floating canton cities. :(

Cyrodil is bit depressingly normal sometimes, when you think of where it could have been set, places like the Black Marsh or the Akavir continent. That being said, I like my fantasy games to have very outlandish\nonstandard settings (for instance I have allways liked planescape: torment over BG:II....BG:II has a far superior combat system and its technically superior - but I am just nuts about the setting of planescape).

Hopefully there will be an expansion or some mods that deal with a more outlandish setting. (fingers crossed for black marsh, I have been spending a lot of time on the border at Leyawiin.)

Let me make it clear, i'm having a bit of a winge here but I still really like the game. :lol

I did that quest, and offed the gray prince, but it was considered just like any other arena match so I did not get any bounty and the guards didn't harrass me.

By the way
If you didn't want to kill him then don't go do that last arena match. Being grand champion isn't a big deal anyway.

Same thing happened to me, you just need to wait a second or run around for a bit and then when you get the quest msg, you can give it to her.

I just found a funny glitch.

If you're a full-fledged mage's guild member, you won't get into any trouble for attacking non-guild members. However, guards will always stop you for attacking citizens of the empire.

hmm... I did the same as you, but
while I did still have to kill him, and don't know if it was 'murder' or not because I was already in the dark brotherhood, but I most certainly did not receive a bounty on my head and I don't think I got infamy for it either. Maybe the bug is only if you have never yet murdered someone?

I have a problem, I'm doing the first Anvil Mage quest, I killed the rogue mage in the road, and nothing happened. I can't seem to complete this quest. Can anyone help me?

HE'S DEAD ON THE ROAD, COME ON HE'S RIGHT THERE! Goddamn it.

EDIT - holy shit how I've been not been leveling up. I had to go to bed for the above mission to work, I think, and I levelled up. So now I decided to try sleep again, level up to level 4. And again, to 5. Now I'm at 8....9...10... yup, I went from 2 to 10 without realizing I needed to level up :lol I know leveling is bad but what the hell, if things get hard there's always the sliders.

1)Equip any set of arrows.

2)Draw your bow back and press b while its drawn.

3)Highlight any other arrow set in your inventory and press A twice.*Note*The number of arrows here is excatly how many items will spawn.

4)find any item you wish yo clone and drop it*Note*I found it doesnt work with longswords and thats about it,but im sure a few other things wont work with for starters try potion or alemby or soul gems, they work good.

5)Now drop any set of arrows besides highlighted ones and press b.

Now you can clone just about anything in your inventory.

leveling from 2 to 10 will make the enemies a lot harder but it will also vastly improve the items you get from drops and chests so its really just a tradeoff.

There's really no other reason to do this except having extra cash or unbroken items. The gold system has already been broken several times, so it's not like a revelation. Still, very funny.

slayn

needs to show more effort.
for enchanting an item, the amount of charges an item gets comes from the quality of the soul used. Is it ever possible to enchant something higher than 1600? I know I've found stuff with a higher enchant, but i can't figure out how I would make such a thing myself.

as a side note, I'm not sure what I did but I somehow glitched my blade of woe so that it has 100,000 charges. This infact blows because it still has the same number of uses. So all this means is it takes massive MASSIVE charging to get its hundful of uses back =(

Thats fine. Anyone can help with this bug? I'd hate to not be able to get any further in the mage missions, considering my character IS a mage.

EDIT - nevermind, I guess the quest never really activated in the first place. Which is quite strange since a rogue mage did end up attacking me. :lol this game and its bugs.

While I don't have the game, I have been reading the thread against my own free will (damn my needful brain!), but I have noticed one thing...

All of those caves and dungeons and phat lewt[/dragona] and you don't have an archeologist or spelunker? They can fight and do all the things that a thief can do, and they're much better at tomb raiding than thieves. What do you say Bethesda, give us a spelunker (and make treasure hard but rewarding to find)?

Is Oblivion like Morrowind in that you can stash items pretty much anywhere and the game will include that on the save file? I know in Morrowind I could stash loot in chests at inns, but I think I may have just lost a full set of ebony armor trying that same thing in Oblivion. I still have a save file from before I lost the armor, but it's been several hours and I don't want to repeat all the quests I've done since then.

No, you can't. NPC's "clean" their homes and containers every so often. Buy a house, problem solved.

Yep, one in every major city.

The cheapest is in the Imperial City, it's a shack near the Waterfront. Costs 2K.

The most expensive is about 25K, I believe. Lemme know if you need the location to buy any.

Someone should try this trick. See if they can do it without crippling the framerate.

Use that item replication bug on a large shield and stack them so you get a kind of "wall of shields". Then provoke a guard to watch them crash down, possibly impeding his movement too. :p

Thanks; looks like I need to save up the money first though. Most I've ever had is $1300, which I blew on some cheap spells to get started with the various magic disciplines. Right now I only have $900. Gotta go rob some castles and shops.

It probably just sounds like common sense, but the easiest way to rack up the loot is to simply gain levels.

Back when I was in the low teens, I could barely make ends meet. It seemed every bit of cash I had was spent repairing items, recharging weapons and other necessities. No way I could have ever thought about buying a house. Now that I'm level 27, I come out of every dungeon hauling anywhere from 20-50k worth of loot.

In fact, I just picked up the infamous "ring of wizardry" tonight. It's worth 22k but there's no way I'm selling that puppy... it might just be the best ring in the entire game.

about the arena...

I did the gray prince quest and in the final fight in the arena he just didn't fight back at all, and now I'm considered a murderer (dark brotherhood came to visit me), and in the fight I tried to find a solution without killing him, but couldn't.. it felt really sad. was there any other way out of this? I was trying to play a purely good character.

I killed Lucien though, so no dark brotherhood.. ;)

You experienced the exact same glitch I did.

And no, there's not any way to resolve the situation and exit the arena
without killing him.

Just look at it this way -
he spent his entire life obssessed with finding out the truth about his heritage. After it was finally revealed, it destroyed him. He wasn't ever going to be the same again. He would have lived the rest of his life in seclusion, depressed, miserable and listless. You ended his agony and granted him the gift of dying in the arena... his home, in front of his adoring fans. He died an honorable death, and will always be remembered as one of the greatest champions in all of Cyrodill.

There's some role-play to lend a bit of perspective. :)

Don't read if you haven't progressed to Silencer in the Dark Brotherhood guild.

Man, having to wipe out all the assasins at the sancturary was a really awesome twist. I had come to know those people and having to kill them all was a pretty great piece of script work. Especially that sweet lady with the nice voice.

And that dude who always hated you, hahaha, having him come up to you and say "oh your my best friend now" etc was so awesome! hahaha but I did wipe them all out. It had to be done.

well it would have been an honorable end if he did fight back.. he just told me to kill him and then it wasn't much of a challenge.
but it was a cool twist in the end, though.. even though me being grand champion felt rather hollow.:)

A thing I noticed recently is that I can't make a spell to turn undead past level 25. I'm currently level 27. My illusion skill is at 78, which is expert illusion.

Is this as high as turn undead spells go?

You're going to need to feed. Don't worry, it won't kill your victim. So long as you feed regularly, being a vampire has all sorts of benefits, and you won't be taking sun damage.
