But the game runs absolutely fine on X1 and Ps4. The last gen versions were...yeah
I think this remaster is pretty great. Aside from the character models it looks beautiful

Play it on a high end gaming PC and you can never go back to consoles. I just tried and I literally couldn't get past how badly it ran on ps4.

Isn't it constant 30 FPS on PS4? X1 version runs smooth.

I'd play it on a high end PC for sure (and I know it's great especially with graphic mods) but I'm not a PC gamer ;)

What difficulty do people recommend? I remember when I originally played it I went with default and it seemed a little easy, but I didn't get far enough to find out how hard it gets.

Also are the difficulty trophies/achievements for completing the game?

No difficulty trophies whatsoever. You can try expert if the normal difficulty is too easy for you. I had to switch back because some enemies were simply too strong and I had to save/reload at almost every encounter which wasn't a wolf or bandit.
Especially at the beginning there are plenty of strong bosses, trolls, bandit leaders and other annoying creatures which are already on normal difficulty a pain in the butt.

Cool, thanks for the info. Might as well keep it at normal then and see how it goes from there.

i forgot how much I love the lore of Skyrim. The tension between the Empire and the Stormcloaks is such a cool vibe for the whole game. Provincialism and its discontents versus the might of an empire--one side is presented a little too perfectly, but thankfully there are a few quests that complicate the morality of both sides.
I really liked the quest where you have to rescue a Gray-Mane from the Thalmor. The letter from General Tullius at the beginning of the quest line is such a great example of keeping the civil war conflict interesting by making the empire seem a little too acquiescent to the Thalmor.
If the engine was less janky, I think Skyrim would be remembered a little more favorably for its quests and overall story. There are so many interesting little lore nuggets peppered throughout the dialogue and quests. Funny how the politics of Skyrim mirror the 2016 election--were far-right politics as prevalent when they made this game as they are now? Regardless, the game seems strangely prescient now. After being away from the game for a year or two, I'm constantly rediscovering things I missed in earlier playthroughs. This game just keeps giving, man. You're my boy, Meeko!

Although whatever is causing the awful shimmer effect on certain objects needs to go back from whence it came.

My save file says I've been playing for 28hrs and 7min... Which is wayyyy off. I wonder if pausing the game and putting the Xbox to sleep doesn't pause the game's time keeping?

I should be around 10hrs or so, definitely not 28 lol.

My copy came in and I'm overwhelmed with what to pick. I played Skyrim back in 2011 on 360 and was not the biggest fan due to sword combat and not being aware of the sneaky archer build and mage. It appears that being a thief/assassin is the "best" class, right? Also, any tips on skills and etc for whatever class/race I pick?

I have no idea if its constant 30 fps on ps4 but the camera just felt so sluggish compared to the pc especially usuing gsync.

I 100% the original Skyrim on X360 and I really really really wish achievements transferred over, I hate going through them again. I want to play mods but I'm not playing this game for a hundred hours and not get a single achievement, lol. =P

This was my qualm with Dragon Age on XB1...said I was at 100+ hrs in a few days, was counting sleep hours

I'm a Nord. I support the Empire. I kill any and all Thalmor bastards I come across.

Part of it's nostalgia towards the Empire as it was in Oblivion, part of it's that most of the Stormcloaks are racist, isolationalist assholes.

You've got the Unofficial Patch installed? Because that one causes a lot of shimmering in distant objects right now, among other things. I think we'll have to wait until the CK is out for a fix.

My char is a Breton scholar and archeologist of magic, searching out Dwemer secrets and ancient Nord secrets. She's headed to the college of winterhold, but hoping for more exclusive studies of magic, and more exciting organizations to infiltrate. Lacking a real Telvanni presence, she's curious what other organizations might take her on

I just gave myself enough money through the console to buy and upgrade breezehome right off the bat. 7k+ total gold in the early game can be pretty rough going and I just wanted a place to store all of my books

Quick question, I've never played skyrim before and got the special edition. I see the dlc is marked in the add ons section. Is the dlc integrated into the main game or do you play the dlc separately?

So guys, I'm playing this for the first time and I'm extremely overwhelmed. How do I know what to do at any given time? How do I know if a quest is achievable at my current level?

I don't want to tunnel the main quests because I don't think that's not how this game is meant to be played and I'm sure I'd miss out on most of the game, but I feel absolutely lost at every other aspect of the game.

Help?

I'm enjoying this again. So much fun. I'll try out mods eventually, but I'd rather not turn off trophies for PS4. At least not yet.

Also, I'm playing more of a mage this time then a jack of all trades from my 1st time years ago. Still somewhat jack of all trades, but with more focus on magic.

Ignore the main quest (if you want). Pick a direction and just go. You'll find a million things to do and there's really no wrong way.

However, if you're looking for a suggestion, go to Whiterun and start with the Companions guild. Simple introduction to the game.

Take your time, go through misc quest / sub quests list and just do it, you will rarely run into one that you can't do. You aren't doing anything wrong by choosing quest x over quest y.

Don't try to do everything at once. Take it a quest at a time. You can finish the main quest and still play after you are done. I'm fairly certain the game somewhat balances difficulty based on your level as well--don't worry about it for quests.
Just keep playing and at some point it will just 'click'. Once it does you'll be in for a great ride--its an amazing game.

Yeah something is off with the playtimes. Just tested, and it seems that the playtime goes up while the game is paused??? Saved, paused for a couple minutes, saved again, and the time went up. But it only happens if you unpause before saving again.

Integrated. Certain storylines will make themselves known in a sort of obvious way once you meet the requirements.

The game has a scaling difficulty, so you can do most quests at any level and get through them. Certain areas and enemy types are pretty tough when you're really low level, but you shouldn't ever hold back if a quest sounds appealing-- and that is really the best way to play: do what ever sounds most appealing! You can't miss anything, the quests will be there waiting.

Thanks. I've always sucked at open world games because I end up feeling overwhelmed at the amount of choices I can make at any given time. I haven't event invested into any perks because I feel like I'm just going to ruin my game somehow. I'll just keep playing and looking for interesting stuff, I really hope it clicks eventually and I feel confident enough to have fun without worrying about choice.

Is it still possible to get the special edition for free on PC? I just need the last dlc released but I don't know if I missed my chance.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
I feel like I'm missing a lot if I only just install Unofficial Patch and SMIM, and plenty of the GEMS aren't updated yet for SE

any recommended mods in the mean time? I remember this experience mod that makes skill leveling less tedious because every quest rewards 1 point at least

or hell, any experience/skill mod

If you've no idea about what that choice means, just go with your gut feeling.

Personally, on my first time through, I opted for the faction that didn't try to give my character a "shave" in the opening sequence.

that's the whole point of the opening though, particularly with one NPC (persuasive that uses his charm to the player), because they knew any sensible person would pick Empire since the cards of the plot are stacked against Stormcloaks lol

This free upgrade thing so good, finally will finish the game with all dlc's! Still will wait some more for mods i want.

Also that hidden improved video really nice for to see potential of new mod capacity, damn...

Thanks for this awesome detailed OP.

The game has crashed on me about 8-11 times in 2 hours of gameplay on my Xbox One. Also, now that I think about it, my Xbox One crash so much during my Dead Rising 3 play-through that I couldn't even finish the game. Has anyone else had this happen? It only crashes during games.

What's a good strategy to use when you're an archer defense wise? I don't really want to use any shields to defend myself. Any suggestions? I'm kind of defenseless out there.

I was thinking of picking this up, but I have two questions:

Is there encumbrance, and/or carry limits in this game like Fallout 4?

Is there a mod on xbox to disable them? lol

Guys, I apologize for the novice comment but how do mods work? I never used them before and am curious about them. Where do you download them? What are the best ones? I am talking Xbox One.

Also, is the game stable? Does it crash or glitch out?

Could anyone give me advice on building a character in this game? Before I start playing it, I just feel like I need some input, because prior to now, I played Skyrim a little when it came out on PS3/360, and I remember putting maybe 10ish hours into it. I stopped though, because I felt completely unequipped to handle any situation well. I was playing it the same way that I had played Oblivion previously, with a high emphasis on stealth, and archery. However, unlike Oblivion, it seemed like it was soooooo much easier for the enemies to detect you in Skyrim.

I just would appreciate some suggestions for good character setups to consider, since this game does not seem exactly like Oblivion. I still enjoyed that game the most out of all Bethesda games.

Sooo, Empire, Stormcloacks or neither?

Lol this question used to spark some lengthy arguments back when Skyrim was relatively new.
Honestly, both sides are terrible. Ulfric is a racist asshole who doesn't much care for the dunmer seeking asylum in his city and doesn't even let the argonians inside his city.
The Empire on the other hand is a shadow of its former self and in bed with the aldmeri dominion who are basically nazis.
So whichever side you choose, terrible people will end up in power.
On the bright side, none of this matters in the next TES game, Bethesda will come up with a completely new world state as they usually do with their games.

Redguard are against the empire, good enough for me.
