Seriously? I thought it was pretty impressive. Not big budget amazing, but damn good for a show on the CW.

It's a very effective use of budget, and considering ratings I don't suspect it will drop much, if at all.

I think there will be a bidding war for streaming rights between netflix and amazon after season 1 too. Lots of popularity among those users with the franchise.

This could make a good Bish banned gif.

OK first post in this thread but me and the Missus have been catching up on this this week.
This was a great episode (whatever you guys say, that sonic boom punch was hype!) but I cant help but keep shouting things at the TV.

Basically this is a good show, but it is also terrible. Why the hell does barry just act like a regular human whenever he gets into a fight? Honestly you telling me he can't at least dodge half these guys attacks? He gets clocked once, then just takes a beating! He sees everything in super slow motion, literally diving in and out of a crashing train days before and saving everyone but "Oh no! A shelving unit is falling on me!" Welp, better wait here and get hurt"

Like in this fight scene, when he grabbed Iris to take her to safety why didn't he take her outside the school, come back electricute that guy or something all before iron dude even blinked?! Tell meeeee!

rant over (till next week)

p.s. Caitlin used to REALLY pss me off, either I have adapted, or they have toned down her character to be more down to earth.

EDIT
Everyone's supposed to be really smart, but it's so painfully obvious that they're actors pretending to be smart. Everything's really corny, and when someone dies because Flash is 'too slow to save him', it's somehow the fault of the Hispanic guy? Typical. The only genuinely good scene was the train scene, and even it had a really cheesy and stupid build-up. What am I missing that's so good about this show?
This was exactly how I was feeling when I first watched it. The Flash is essentially a bad TV show, actiing is bad, the writing is even worse... But you just take it as what it is and it's kinda fun. I am enjoying it, but begrudgingly haha

I sort of hate the relationship crap going on. Why does every superhero show need it? Worse, it is the unrequited love variety which is getting ridiculous.

Well, Wells pretty much showed he's the reverse flash by going to detective Allan'shouse and stealing the case file. It's not like Allan was talking about it with anyone else.

In six episodes we've gone from a 300mph ceiling to 830mph, running up walls and on water. Can't wait to see where he's at later this season.
Infinite Mass Punch, eventually I hope.

Also the way Wells said "a real Man of Steel" just makes me hope for an eventual Superman Arrowverse show, but that's about as likely as their being a Batman one. For some stupid reason DC seems to want to split up its TV productions. Gotham is its own thing, the new Supergirl show will be it's own thing. It's kind of annoying.

This show has blown away my expectations. Not a bad episode yet and it just seems to be getting better and better. I also find it funny that this CW show looks better then most shows on the bigger networks (EX: ABC, NBC, FOX, etc).

Shared universes are fun in moderation and absolutely joy killing taken the the extent in comics.

It still seems way too in your face obvious. i feel like it isn't one or the either but we are being led on by both ends. There will be something to give comic fans a bit of a surprise and fans of the show as well.

The "reveal" did seem a bit too... easy. It wasn't earned, and I like that. The fact that they started making Eddie more and more sympathetic may play along with this.

Enjoying this show so far.

But Cisco has got to be the most annoying character I've seen in a show in a while.

I don't think I've ever seen you post outside of Sales-Age. It is breaking my immersion.

I go back and forth between liking Cisco a lot and despising him. It's great.

Cisco is cool, he comes up with the cool names.

Iris was hotter than normal in this episode for some reason.

Finally caught up on this week's episode

-Liked that they are developing Eddie's character and gave him some type of background
-Joe continues to be amazing
-Wells taking off his glasses and not killing a man, shows a lot of restrain
-Finally he gets named. Glad that whole The Streak thing didn't last long
-Loved how Iris' narration played into the pilot
-Cool moments with Barry at the end
-That ending

Negatives

-Didn't much care for Tin Man's special effects at times.
-Yeah that's it

Great episode!

I actually really liked Eddie and Barry bonding over a punching bag. I actually hope they become good friends.

I hope the Ominous Wells drinking game players got fucking plastered at the end with The Man in the Yellow Suit zooming around Joe.

Tin Man was a lol-worthy douche menace. Loved Barry revealing himself before tossing him in the clink.

Them keeping Iris in the dark is stupid. It makes her look dumb and it makes them look weaselly.

Seriously, I fucking love Ominous Wells.

Aww yiss Man in the Yellow Suit is back. Obviously they want us to think it was Wells which probably means it was Eddie working with Wells this whole time. It's gotta be.

It's gotta.

What I don't understand is why Barry is using his fists to fight?

Can't he throw a fucking spear at the dude at mach speeds? Or catch him off guard before he has a chance to turn to metal?

There was definitely some sexual tension going on there. The punching bag was a metaphor for what Barry wants to do to Eddie. I just hope Barry doesn't finish in a flash.

Barry is kinda like a really shitty Wolverine. As cool as his powers are, he gets his ass handed to him a LOT.

Also...there's something strangely...flirtatious(?) about Barry and Eddie

I still don't understand why Barry doesn't always dodge his enemies with his speed.

When he first punched that guy who can turn into metal he gets hurt the the bad guy is clearly about to take another swing which he does and he hits Barry again. Why didnt he dodge?

And even in their second fight you see the bad guy take a swing and Barry kinda ducks down to dodge it but again if he is using his super speed shouldnt the guy be frozen?

Same with when he got into trouble holding that pole.

Great episode. Everything is just right with this show - the breakneck pace, the characters who become more interesting with every episode, the comic book tone, the effects that are way better than they have any right to be, and the sense of tease and payoff.

The midseason finale is going to be bonkers.

CW has done remarkably well on their budget

The train sequence in the Captain Cold episode was shockingly impressive

Agreed. For something that seems to run on a shoestring budget (if Arrow is any indication) I've been more than satisfied with the special effects. I just hope they can keep the quality up for the remainder of the season.

Remember how exciting the fights and effects were on Smallville?

Oh god. Anyone who complains about the poor effects in Flash needs to watch this and realise just bad we've had it in past shows.

Yup, this show is blowing me away in terms of effects. I was really worried before the show started that all we'd be getting by now was a red blur like Smallville, but they keep upping the effects almost every other episode.

I love it and I really hope CW don't revert to type and start slashing the budget....

The main limit on TV special effects isn't really budget (although that obviously plays a part in the number of shots they can setup) it's time. The turnaround for a show from filming to broadcast can be as little as two weeks or three weeks in some cases. There's not a lot of time for the detail work which lifts special effects work to the next level.

I thought the last episode was bad. Not really liking the show even tough I want to. They should stop doing monster of the week episode and should star some arc from comics.
And no professor zoom standing up from chair does not count.

On special effect i think they are ok. Tin man looked ok but that sonic speed was disappointing.

huh??

they're obviously laying the ground work..

Zoom is obviously being built up. As is Grodd. World building before jumping into the big bads is fine.

It may be so but I am losing intrest in the show. And its not just that it follows exact routine. Find a new meta human flash get his ass beaten. Goes back to star lab for treatment. Some stupid romance and friendship stuff. Goes against badyy again and wins. Professor zoom does something crazy the end.

Arrow had same issue that it had no major arc at starting but episodes were much more Interesting and diverse

I noticed in Arrow that the episode structure never changes. It always features Olly doing what he does. What about an episode where we pair two characters who don't normally interact, like Diggle and Roy, in an episode that explores their relationship or explores their reaction to whats been going on all season? Or an episode where Felicity is the hero and is the one who resolves the conflict in the climax instead of having Olly show up and shoot arrows and making the bad guys dead?

Joss Wheddon does this with his shows. He turns convention on its head and gives supporting cast a time to shine without the title character doing all the heavy lifting.

Infinite Mass Punch, eventually I hope.

Has this been confirmed? If so I will no longer watch it. :(

So it wasn't just me thinking that too, huh? I'm gay and figured it was just wishful thinking.

Great episode! Totally hyped for the crossover. Flash is off to a MUCH better start than Arrow season 1. Really excited to see where the show goes from season 1.5 onwards.

On a side note, although not the BEST character Iris is really starting to grow on me. I fully disagree with the comparisons to Laurel. Granted it's kinda unfair considering Laurel has had over 2 seasons worth of time to annoy the hell out of everyone. So far Iris has been overly enthusiastic about a superhero showing up and totally oblivious to her quasi-brother being in love with her. Not worth the early hate IMO. :P

Amell's thoughts on WB announcing Flash Movie.

Stephen Amell is an unmatched archer on Arrow, so you probably don’t want him taking aim at you. That’s exactly what happened to Warner Bros. though, as the studio found itself in the actor’s sights for the way they announced the DC movie slate. Amell told AMC Movie News that he didn’t think the announcement was fair to the TV show version of The Flash, which is pulling in spectacular ratings but got left behind by the hype machine in the furor for the big-screen version of the character, played by Ezra Miller.

“I thought that it was shitty that all of this stuff got announced the morning of the spectacular ratings of the second episode of The Flash came in,” Amell said. He added that Warner Bros. could have “handled the announcement better,” saying that there was no room for Grant Gustin to establish himself before Warner Bros. tried to get fans excited about Miller.

He did reiterate his belief that there’s “no need for the television side and the feature side to crossover” and said that he likes Miller’s casting, noting, “I’m sure that Ezra Miller will do great as the Flash.”

He continued on, saying, “I’m protective of Grant [Gustin]. And that’s because I think that producing 23 episodes of superhero television is more difficult than producing a feature film. And it’s 23 episodes again, and again, and again
