Although overall times are hard to judge (Williams & Nakajima fastest lol!)
I did hear alot of talk about the Brawn being very fast all during winter testing - sure it may not have been topping the top sheets in every session, but we still knew it was fast.

So we cant completely ignore the fact that right now the Ferari seems slow & Lotus seems fast.

But 2nd or 3rd test I think we will get more of an idea

I think that was the exception really, Brawn were not expected to survive and get to the first race, let alone dominate.

The other teams assumed that the distraction over survival would be reflected in performance and really couldn't help but comment their utter surprise to any journo that had their attention at the time, there was a lot of lips loosened by sheer shock :lol

imagine if McLaren have veto'ed the supply of Merc engines to Brawn GP?

We would've seen Hamilton get his second WDC or Vettel grab his first, Mercedes wouldn't have left McLaren, Schumacher would not have came back

And Massa wouldnt have took a spring to the face & then would have replaced at the end of the season instead of Kimi.
And now we would have a Kimi & Alonso dream team!

Stupid Mclaren! :(

Hehe, it's nuts isn't it, imagine how different things would have been if Ross Brawn took the position offered to him at Red Bull in 2007 instead of Honda, there would have been no Brawn GP / Mercedes, Jenson would still be chasing his first title, and most certainly would not be at McLaren now, and who knows what effect that would have had on Red Bull too.

You're no fun! :p

But yeah, we could be here all day with "What if's"

Exactly.

What if my parents took my karting when I was a kid like I wanted to? I wouldn't have been just Gaf champ, I would have been 8 times F1 world champion by now, and I'm only 25.

Seriously.

The truth really hurts man. :(

Okay, that made me chuckle.

So now that the testing session is almost over, how do you pronounce Jerez in English? Hir-eth?

I say Her-ez.

If we don't go with Y U NO FINISH NOSE, I propose this as the OT subtitle.

Both aren't that good. The "Y U NO" stuff gets old pretty fast and the potato reference is a bit too obscure. We want more people to look at this thread, so we should keep the sexual references.

Nice to see Hamilton racking in 80-odd laps today, a stark contrast to McLaren's testing phase last year.
This is good sign for Mclaren tbh

They did almost 90 more laps than last year on this first test and no flow-viz yet to be seen lol

No reliability issues or any signs of real faults with the mclaren so with their immense rate of development a good stable start could have excellent results, they lost out on months last year thanks to aborted start.

True, they were lost in the dark on last year's testing with that octopus exhaust thing and they had that miracle before Melbourne.

Not sure if there are any people from Canada in here, but it looks like TSN will have every race. I'm interested to see who they will have for the commentators.

Barcelona will give a better indication of the relative pace of the cars. If you're good at Barcelona, then you're well on the way to having a competitive car.

When are they testing there?

McLaren and Ferrari exhaust systems declared legal
http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/7502500/-McLaren-Ferrari-Declared-Legal-

McLaren and Ferrari have been handed a boost after their exhaust designs were reportedly declared legal by the FIA's tech man Charlie Whiting.

For this year's campaign, Formula One has implemented a ban on blown diffuser exhausts and one of the rules relating to the ban states that the exhaust outlets must now be visible from above.

Questions were therefore raised at the start of pre-season testing about the design of the new McLaren and the Ferrari as neither has an outlet that can been seen from above.

But, according to Sky Sports' F1 pit lane reporter Ted Kravitz, Whiting has given both teams the go-ahead.

"I understand from sources in the pit lane that FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting has told the teams that he considers Ferrari and McLaren exhaust designs as legal," Kravitz told Sky Sports News.

"Even though the way those two teams have packaged their exhaust outlets, with channels leading exhaust gases out to specific areas of the car and therefore appearing to have a beneficial aero effect, which is against new exhaust regulations, it seems Whiting believes that they comply sufficiently with both the letter and the intention of the law.

"This has been accepted by the other teams, who launched with less aggressive exhaust concepts and it means that they will now effectively green light their own, shall we say more exotic, exhaust designs.

"We can expect to see these in time for the third test in Barcelona, if not before."

What if Kimi never returned to F1 - how on earth would you have been able to even cope?!?!

Kimi wasn't testing on day 3!

Lotus Technical Director is happy

Technical director James Allison said the both Grosjean's and Kimi Raikkonen's praise of the new car had given the team a "warm feeling".

"The most encouraging aspect from this week is the feedback from the drivers. Their comments have been full of encouraging statements, including praise for a very secure rear end, good traction and good balance. We haven't heard positive comments like those during the past couple of seasons. Even ignoring the lap times, the driver comments give us a warm feeling and the best sense of whether we've done an okay job."

Jarno hails "best ever sex.. err test"

"I think I cannot remember any better first day testing, honestly, or first week of testing.
