The 2012 driver line up is going to be crazier than I thought. Exciting stuff, some sad though...hopefully KK & Senna find seats.

The RB demo in Milton Keynes was pretty decent today, although the cars were only out for a few mins at a time I can't really complain since it was free. Decent turnout as well, Red Bull estimates 60,000 so wouldn't be surprised if they do a few more in the future.

I wasn't too bothered seeing the F1 cars as I've seen them up close before, seeing the NASCAR was good though. Just the one on its own was pretty loud, a whole field of them in a small oval would be mental. Determined to go see a NASCAR race one day now.

Wait? Kobayahi is not racing in 2012? if so sauber can officially fuck themselves, there goes the lone reason i started watching F1 again. (Assuming the rumors[if any?] are true)

Why don't you blame the Japanese manufacturers? they should man the fuck up and come back to F1 rather than bailing out immediately after the crisis!

Grosjean got his backing from french companies, Petrov had his seat coz of Russian companies, same as for Maldonado. Hell, even Alonso got his McLaren and more evidently his Ferrari seat because of Santander. Most drivers need some financial backing, no matter how talented they are.

I like the guy and I'll be sad if he loses his seat, don't get me wrong, but don't blame Sauber if he drops him for a paying driver

Nope. I will always blame a team for not taking the best driver available and chasing pay drivers. I will not blame the Japanese motor companies for not being in F1 just to hire 1 Japanese driver.

i think the rumour originated from swiss website blick

toilef1 published their 'exclusive' on it yesterday. they had the scoop on grosjean replacing petrov, so their source seems reliable. it wouldn't be a loss if it turned out true as kobayashi is shit.

marussia announcing something on the 16th, must be petrov? which means glock is out of a drive seeing as they recently signed pic.

driver contracts being ripped up all over the shop, lol.

Glock already signed a long-term deal with Marussia.

Timo Glock signs long-term deal with Marussia Virgin

By: Adam Cooper on 7/24/2011

Timo Glock has signed a long-term deal to stay with Marussia Virgin. It will take the German into the turbo era in 2014, although it's believed that the final season is an option--a logical move given that the team has no firm engine deal for the new formula.

And Petrov had a 2012 contract with Lotus...
Indeed, these contracts that are made to be broken with smart, elegant get out clauses. Some of the best solicitors in the world are employed by the F1 paddock. Watching a good solicitor draft a contract full of clauses is a pleasure to behold. It's not my area of expertise (specialise in another area of law, that doesn't require the drafting and writing of contracts), but it's always fascinating to see a contract drafted. That is if you don't find the legal profession tedious, soul sapping and boring.

I think it all boils down on how disperate one party to sign with the other is.

In the case of pay drivers, I'm sure its as simple as "if I don't race you don't get the money", but for cases like Kimi, Ferrari had to pay him for the remaining time in his contract

So Lotus (I'll start saying Lotus from now on) loss for terminating Petrov's contract early would be the sponsorship from his father's company, but I'm sure they got more from Renault and Total for signing Grosgean

F1enigma says Kobi contract is safe for next year at Sauber and that Bianci will turn up at another team but not as regular driver.

The Di Resta whine about Vettel is pretty delicious :D
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/12/paul-di-resta-vettel-won-because-he-had-the-best-car/
“We had the same car, same engine, same tyres and I beat him,” said Di Resta. “I don’t want to diminish Vettel’s achievement (this year), but he won the championship because he had the best car. He did his job, but another driver in the same car would probably have achieved the same results. I hope one day to have the same opportunity.”

ahaha, that worked well against Sutil.

I'm still waiting for a Di Resta interview where he has the decency not to discuss Formula 3 and Vettel. Wasn't it something like 5 years, or so, ago? I expect to be waiting a rather long time.

If the rumors are true about FI's 2012 driver line-up, maybe The Hulk will help to temper Di Resta's outsized ego.

As an F1 driver you should really keep your mouth shut about such things.

You could beat a driver in karting, GP1, GP2, F3000 and dodgems... but until you beat them in F1, shut the hell up. You make yourself look just a little pathetic.

vettel's car always had an edge, I have full reason to believe his car was the better of the two easily.

well of course, because he is super involved, talks a lot to his engineers and gives good feedback, allowing them to setup the car more to his liking, whereas plenty other drivers go sulking in their bus when something doesn't go their way

On that note, has there been any more discussion on whether the diffuser ban will greatly affect either RBR driver's performance? I think the theory was that Mark was more used to "traditional" technologies and additions while Vettel could more easily acclimatise to them.

I'm a huge Alonso fan, he has been bloody brilliant this year in a mediocre car. Hoping next year Ferrari will be able to take a step forward and have a more competitive package.

Shouldn't be as bad as Schumacher. Kimi at least drove in 2009 and has had a continued presence in Motorsport in the two years since then.

Used to dislike Alonso with a passion, but even I want him to win a 3rd WDC before he retires. I hope that next year the Mclaren and Ferrari will be able to regularly challenge for poles and wins, unlike this year's joke of a competition.

I think 2007 proved that Hamilton is the better driver between those two.

I think 2007 proved a few things, but that Hamilton is definitively better than Alonso is not one of them. He was slightly better that year, in that car. But Button was better than Hamilton this year, does that mean you think Button is better than Alonso?

Alonso and Hamilton were both very close in 2007, but I'd argue that Hamilton hasn't had a year as good since, while Alonso is still getting better.

You know how at the time some people called button the worst champion since villeneuve?

Given how button has shown how good he is this year shouldn't that title now go to hamilton?

That should keep us going until testing.

Hamilton and Villeneuve both had massively impressive debut years, narrowly missing out on the championship only to win it the next year. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
