Alonso and Hamilton were both very close in 2007, but I'd argue that Hamilton hasn't had a year as good since, while Alonso is still getting better.
I agree in a way. I think 2007 was Hamilton's best season. 9 straight podiums in his rookie year. Lead the championship for most of the season, even with Alonso in the other car.
He's always been a spectacular driver and still is. His win at the Nurburgring this year is one of the best I've seen. The win at China was also really impressive, not just for winning, but for what he had to do to put himself in that position. His pass on Button is probably the best pass all season. But he hasn't gotten
better.
Alonso has gotten better, I think. Maybe not in 2008 or 2009, where he had his moments of brilliance, but his relentless pace and consistency since joining Ferrari is very reminiscent of his days at Renault, except he hasn't had the fastest car and has worked his ass off for what he's acheived. Nearly won the championship last year. Drove even better this year to fight for 2nd in the WDC as best of the rest.
The two are definitely the best rivalry since Prost/Senna and I think its brilliant.
