Alonso has been improving as a driver since 2007, while Hamilton has stagnated somewhat. He's also seems to have lost some of that initial passion and no compromising attitude he exhibited in his rookie season as he's been slowly worn down by the cynicism in F1.

Where is the electrifying Lewis Hamilton that everyone expected to dominate for years to come gone?

meh this seasons driving lineup changes are still crap with the fact that Massa and Webber and both Toro Rosso Drivers still have their seasts.

The only one whom I would give another season to of the 4 is Webber. However I need to know why we heard so little from him this season, was his head really in the game at all?

Massa is a complete and utter throwaway, Give him Williams for 2 years and be done. I don't care one whit about Massa. I would rather watch Heinz Harald Frentzen race again than Massa. I would rather have an elderly Damon Hill race again rather than watch Massa again this season.

I also wish an untimely demise of Helmut Marko....Sick of his voice and his declarations of how the Torrow Rosso drivers need to pick up their game and improve or get replaced heard that like 50 times last season and yet they stil end up keeping both of them for another are you kidding me. Where ist he cutthroat F1. Helmut Marko stop standing next to Vettel and gettting camera time you widgit.

Marko to me is like Bernie both times are up and both need to die so the sport can move on. I'm glad that Jean Todt replaced that other bad seed who he replaced he was another that needed to go and never be heard from again.

I agree with Massa and Buemi, but not Webber and Alguersuari. Yes,Webber was soundly beaten by Vettel, but with the numerous podiums and other strong finishes, he played an important role in securing the Constructor's title and we've all seen that when a car isn't suited to a driver, said driver tends to struggle and instead of having a harmonious relationship with the car, the driver is constantly fighting the car. The RB8 may well be to his liking and we could all be seeing a vastly different Webber next season.

After a poor start Alguersuari improved a great deal and had one of his better seasons. He's done more than enough to justify another year at Toro Rosso. What he really needs is a change of scenery though as he can't progress any further at Toro Rosso, but competitive race seats are hard to come by in F1. He may well never get the chance.

Alonso and Hamilton were both very close in 2007, but I'd argue that Hamilton hasn't had a year as good since, while Alonso is still getting better.

I agree in a way. I think 2007 was Hamilton's best season. 9 straight podiums in his rookie year. Lead the championship for most of the season, even with Alonso in the other car.

He's always been a spectacular driver and still is. His win at the Nurburgring this year is one of the best I've seen. The win at China was also really impressive, not just for winning, but for what he had to do to put himself in that position. His pass on Button is probably the best pass all season. But he hasn't gotten better.

Alonso has gotten better, I think. Maybe not in 2008 or 2009, where he had his moments of brilliance, but his relentless pace and consistency since joining Ferrari is very reminiscent of his days at Renault, except he hasn't had the fastest car and has worked his ass off for what he's acheived. Nearly won the championship last year. Drove even better this year to fight for 2nd in the WDC as best of the rest.

The two are definitely the best rivalry since Prost/Senna and I think its brilliant.

Not long to go now.

Does any have dibs on the thread yet, Leunam or someone else?

Going so late in the year really threw off the balance of the season for me. Getting hyped for the Dakar always meant the start of a new season wasn't far behind, but it seems like Brazil just happened. Then again, the last time I really watched the Dakar it was still in Africa. Are there any good ways to follow it online?

The official site is pretty good in terms of live timing and the usual streaming sites will be showing Eurosport's very decent coverage of the event.

One thing you can always expect from the Dakar:

Any chance you might have a larger version of that last image?

same request here.. would also like to know from which year is that pic and who's driving if possible :)

I'm thinking of printing it and hanging it

BMW's Stephane Peterhansel and Jean Paul Cottret are the drivers and it's from the 2011 race.

The photo was taken by Natacha Pisarenko.

That's the largest size I've come across, sadly.

I would love to participate in the Dakar at least once in my life.
or the Baja 1000.

Any sign of the F1 montage from the FIA Gala yet? That's usually floating around the internet by now.

I still couldn't find it.. very strange!

Senna to Williams!
That would be brilliant!
Although Senna & Maldanado in the same team probably wouldnt be the best combination

Btw, does Senna bring much sponsorship to teams? I would imagine he would with the Senna name and all that stuff, but I havent heard anything about it.

LolLotus

They sign a good driver last year to take them to the top, and he gets injured in a non F1 event. Now they let Kimi do the exact same thing.
