Nürburgring 2009 : Webber
Nürburgring 2007 : Alonso
Nürburgring 2006 : Schumacher
Nürburgring 2005 : Alonso

Alonso won his championship in 2005 and not 2007. So the answer is probably the right one, but just not worded correctly.

Edit. I retract that statement - Knetemann
What?

Unless the answer 4 is incredibly stupidly worded (the "and" in there changes the meaning totally).

Answer 2: The Nürnburgring IS 5.1 km and in 1978 Gerrie Knetemann (from the Netherlands) won the Road Cycling World Championship which was held on the Nürnburgring that year.

Shit, I looked at the wrong layout on Wikipedia. Right you are.

I doubt its answer 4, there is no way they would word it that badly. They always have a question that sound corrects at first reading & this is it. People will read it quickly & remeber Alonso won it in 2005 and was champion that year - it must be correct!

Answer 2 seems to be correct although its a very difficult question compared to all other weeks.

Neither are amongst my favorites, but I actually like both the Nurburgring and Hockenheim. Drop Valencia and go back to calling the Nurburgring the European GP so we can have both.

I miss the long, long straights at Hockenheim. :(

Never again.

Agreed the forest section made Hockenheim special, it produced stunning helicopter shots of the race.

The reason there were two German GP‘s a few years ago was because Bernie wanted to cash in on Schumacher‘s popularity and success during that era, the same scenario has just played out with Alonso. So, I guess it‘s Vettel and Germany‘s turn next, after Valencia‘s contract expires.

Yeah, lucky we have Valencia and Korea now !

Btw, I don't like this Nurburgring layout, more like Nurborering.

Great for TV audiences, but terrible for the spectators at the track, as they hardly saw the cars for a majority of the lap.

Actually, Bernie would ditch Catalunya before Valencia.

Imagine if Webber or Ricciardo get up... Melbourne AND Adelaide!

BOOOO.

Catalunya is fucking amazing :(

It is kinda depressing looking at the back half of the calendar. So many shit tracks.
But four of the best still to come; Spa, Monza, Suzuka and Interlagos. :)

I dont get this Korea hate, sure it doesnt look exciting on paper - but we have yet to see a proper race on it yet.
Infact last year it was one of the best races, i know this was caused by the crazy rain but that sort of weather is likely to happen most years.

At least with Valencia we know how bad it is as we sat through it ever year :(

Adam Cooper has an interesting article on the financial health of the Renault team.

The Lotus Renault GP team – then still known as Renault F1 – made a £40m loss in 2010, its first year under the ownership of Genii.

The team’s accounts reveal that income fell dramatically last year by 49% from £162.0m to £82.1m, reflecting the lack of a title sponsor and the absence of a contribution from former owner Renault.
It’s well known that the team is committed to some large loans, and the accounts give some fascinating details.

Firstly, it still owes money to Renault: “The company has a loan with the Renault Group, the term of which has been extended to include repayments as follows: 2011 £6m, 2012, £6m, 2013, £8m.”

Secondly there is the arrangement with Lithuania’s AB Snoras Bank, whose logos have appeared on the car: “The company has a loan facility with AB Snoras Bank (£15m) maturing in December 2011. This loan is secured by first ranking security interest over the rights, title and interest in some of the company’s assets with an aggregate value of £24m.”

The BBC show fuck all sports if you take F1 away besides the one off sporting events events like World Cup and Olympics.

Premiership highlights, very limited MotoGP coverage and what else?

they show lots of sport but most of them are absolute shite:

Tennis
Amateur Boxing
Rugby Union
Rugby League
Swimming
Athletics
Horse Racing
Golf
NFL
Darts
Alpine Skiing
Cycling
Sailing
Badminton
Table Tennis
Squash
Equestrianism
Gymnastics
Rowing
Indoor Bowls

how much money do they waste on all this crap?

when f1 does go to channel 4 i'd be pissed about the return of adverts, not their coverage. in the past when sports have crossed from the bbc to 4 they've always done a better job; cricket and wrc for example.

i welcome our new c4 overlords :bow

Okay, so this is the real question.

If BBC had to chose between Top Gear and Formula 1, which one should be axed?

Formula 1.

IIRC Top Gear is the BBC's most profitable show.

Top Gear is becoming increasingly samey, the jokes and humour are often hackneyed and the whole formula is getting quite stale. F1 on the other hand is gaining in popularity and the new rules although disappointing, might equalise the field again. We could be entering a new era of competitiveness throughout the field and an increase in entertainment levels (might be too optimistic about that). I know what I would choose.

Top Gear, whilst it's still entertaining it's now past it's best.

Could they not do it with say pop-up adverts, or ones that scroll along the bottom or something?

I remember watching F1 abroad last year in Ibiza (I think it was on a German channel) and when they went to adverts 3/4 of the screen was the advert whilst the other quarter was the race so you could keep an eye on it.

Seems like 8 forward gears and the ratios of them all have to be chosen before the first race and kept constant all year :S Also reverse gear added.

9.6 Gear ratios :
9.6.1 The number of forward gear ratios must be 8.
9.6.2 Each competitor must nominate the forward gear ratios (calculated from engine crankshaft to
drive shafts) to be employed within their gearbox. These nominations must be declared to the
FIA technical delegate at or before the first Event of the Championship. For 2014 only, a
competitor may re-nominate these ratios once within the Championship season, in which case
the original nomination becomes immediately void. Ratio re-nominations must be declared as
a set and may only be effected by the substitution of change gears.

...

9.7 Reverse gear :
All cars must be able to be driven in reverse by the driver at any time during the Event.

For anyone reading all the new bits are in pink.

That's still not acceptable for a sport like F1.

I'm struggling to see how C4 can do F1 better than the BBC is at the moment.
Channel 4 has no "red" button functionality which means no multiple commentaries, forum,etc..

I like that the FIA deem it necessary to define pi. It's also really strange having to set gear ratios at the start of the year and leaving it like that. What good could that possibly do?
