I was sure the drivers closed it before they started braking, seen how the lack of rear downforce moves the center of gravity forwards, so the rear tyres will be unloaded more. Seen how the flap returning doesn't instantaniously recenter the weight, not closing it until you're braking will result in not enough weight initially on the back tyres. Sounds risky.
It's definitely when they brake. Besides, none of the other answers make any sense.

Schumacher has picked his 5 favourite races for the BBC's classic f1 series. Sadly i think the videos are uk only, but here are his choices and reasons.

"It's for the wheel-to-wheel battle down the pit straight between Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell, when they came within inches of touching. It was two great drivers pushing each other to the edge, but with the respect to leave each other just enough room. It's one of the coolest moments I've seen in F1."

nailed it. they need to bring back the sparks.

i wish the bbc would run these classic races full length.

What about Schumachers' tiff with Barrichello? Anybody remember that?

I just hope we don't have another half-points race.

Well we didn't last year. And it was fine in 2009, it meant that Glock didn't have the time to catch Button ;)

DRS on the main straight...

why the ...? Massa explained why it shouldn't be available on both straights.

Now a track like shanghai might have two sectors of drs since they aren't back to back like sepang.

Pirelli makes tweaks to markings

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, April 7th 2011, 11:36 GMT

Pirelli has added a gold stripe to the side of the soft tyres used at this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix to try and help make it easier for fans to see which compounds drivers are using.

The Italian tyre manufacturer has elected to mark each of the four compounds it is using in 2011 with different coloured lettering on the sidewalls.

However, following complaints in Australia that it was difficult to pick out the silver and yellow colours used for the hard and soft tyres, tweaks have been made for this weekend as an interim solution.

Pirelli's director of motorsport Paul Hembery said that a more permanent change to the tyres will be made from the start of the European season.

"We have had obviously a number of comments that people could not recognise the tyres, and the stripe is not an ideal solution," he explained.

"For Turkey, we will have a much stronger branding on the sidewall. We won't have the stripe; we will connect up the Pirelli and P-Zero wording with more bands of colour.

"It will mean that as it rotates, the black won't dominate. It will look like a turning circle of yellow - and be predominantly yellow in colour.

"We will do the same branding for all of the different compounds. From the testing we have done so far, it seems to work very well."

Not bad.

Nice to see the tyres changing so promptly. I was worried it would be a consistent problem that would go ignored for many races. It shouldn't be a challenge to see what tyres a car is using.

So, practice 1 in 5 hours. Anyone gonna be up? Normally on rainy practices we see drivers sitting in the garage like they're affraid the car will fall apart in weather, or sort of reluctantly going "but I don't wanaaa. it's raining!". Now that it's seemingly gonna be a full wet weekend, do you think it'll be any different?

nah, first half will be nothing with the occasional back of field team, then near the end the bigger teams will do some short runs.

He's always been in great condition, but it's even more impressive at the age of 42.

Yup. I remember back when he was the unparalleled fitness-king of the field. I just love seeing that he's still keeping it up at 42.

Sat down and watched the Grand Prix - Killer Years documentary. Seeing Roger Williamson's crash and tragic death always hits me, especially after David Purley is eventually pulled away from trying to help and you can see him literally break down. Checked out his wikipedia entry and saw this nugget that filled me with absolute grief: "Purley later recalled that upon arriving at the scene, he heard Williamson crying for help as the fire began to take hold."

Hard times.

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Well, we're off at Malaysia, Practice 1 is a go.

Rain predicted for the weekend, which should mix things up a bit, and of course nullify DRS. Any word on whether RBR has got KERS working this time or are we going to have to wait to find out?
