Looks like I'll be watching the races with 5Live coverage.

If Brundle isn't there I'm seriously going to punch someone.

Maybe, with any luck...FOTA will break off. But that's not happening.

The day cricket went to sky was a sad day. When we won the ashes and it was on channel 4 there was a parade, it was top news and huge audiences. The next time we won and it was on sky it was barely noticed outside the typical sports sections.

So for anyone who hasnt done the maths
For anyone who doesnt currenly pay for Sky

12 months at £39.75 per month plus a HD costs an extra £10.25 per month

So if you want to watch every race live in HD next year it will be £600

This is the key point. Since cricket went to Sky Sports, match attendance has fallen along with TV audiences.

I already have the Sky Sports and HD packages so it doesnt affect me as much - but putting it on Sky will reduce the quality of the shows.. Unless they are very committed, Sky's experience wont be of the level of the BBCs. They raised the bar with their commitment - and I guess it's this added cost to bring us the best show they can that has made those who dont care about the sport put pressure on the beeb to cut back :(

We already have Sky HD, do you know how much the Sports package is as an addition?

Sky Sports News reporting that Sky Sports have secured rights to F1 coverage in UK.

It's on Sky Sports News at the moment, details are sketchy at the moment, though.

EDIT: BBC confirming it.

Seriously, FUCK YOU Bernie. Miserable old cunt.

You pay extra for Sky Sports, then an extra for that content in HD. And that's even with Virgin Media too (what I have). Basically, it is expensive.

so you want to have the full BBC F1 experience, which they themselves have hinted is very expensive.. for free??? as in free-to-air

your license fee gets 50% live races, the highlights and the live radio.
i think you should be happy.

if you want the premium, pay the premium.

What an absolute joke.

If Sky stream it via the internet with decent quality, I'm all for it.

Who had that torrent site for F1?

Can a brother get an invite?

Fuck Sky and fuck Bernie and fuck the BBC.

Wouldn't mind one of these either.

How about no? How about we keep it as it is? The resurgence of viewing figures in F1 has been thanks TOTALLY to the BBC with their award winning coverage. They are raking in millions of viewers now for every race.

The BBC make many, many shit programs that get worse ratings and fewer accolades. Also, the total annual BBC settlement is £6.9bn a year, they have the money.

Bernie Ecclestone tells BBC News correspondent @danroan on Sky/BBC deal "It's super for F1 - it will mean a lot more coverage for the sport"

@danroan asked whether Ecclestone felt it was a shame all races no longer on free-to-air, answer was: "It was not us who made that decision"

They do.

Also its only £20.25 if you have the basic package, its gets cheap the more you have if i remeber correctly.

You can also only sign up to part of the sports foe cheaper (i.e only get skysports 2,3 & 4) But i depends what channel it will be shown on - Unless they do it like the football & dont have a set channel, in which case you need to get the whole sports package.

That's another problem, F1 will be competing with football for most of the year on Sundays, so it could get pushed off the HD coverage for virgin viewers.

Yeah Sky Sports 1 will always show the Super Sunday football games, F1 will have to find a home on either SS2, 3 or 4.

Not only that, but consider this: You're paying that £600 to see only HALF of the races, given that you'd already have access to the races that the BBC are covering.

It's literally the worst of both worlds.

Wow.....f1 to pay tv??? That sucks, here in Australia we always get the British coverage and the BBC has been great.

If Bernie really didn't have a say in this I'm guessing the BBC must have on-sold the rights to sky but he must have been able to stop it if he wanted?

What is the percentage of take-up of sky in the UK?

Fucking terrible decision. And I'm saying this as someone who already has Sky Sports (and HD). Commentary will most likely be shit and I'll be fucking pissed off if there are any adverts during the race, which is likely considering their other broadcasts.

The 2012 season had the potential to be even better than this one, and Bernie manages to fuck things up as per usual.

Alonso will walk this, good circuit for Ferrari, the perfect tyres for them, no rain, low temps...

My podium for the race: Alonso, Hamilton, Massa.

Rumours on twitter says there will be no adverts during the race

The "cost of the TV production team" argument isn't really valid. Heck if it was just the live pictures on BBC alongside the 5Live commentary I would be quite content.

DrM

Redmond's Baby
Murdoch's money brings F1 to Sky. "Are Red Bull running team orders? Let's hack into their radio messages to find out..."
:D :D :D

Also, weather is very unusual at Budapest this week. Clouds, showers, warm but not hot weather - it is green this year and not barren waste like we know it.

Pretty much, I could live without all the hour of coverage before the actual race (and quali) if it meant it stayed FTA on BBC.

Gutted only half the season on BBC now, such a shame, the BBC have being doing an incredible job with the F1
We already have Sky Sports at our house, so i wont miss a race, but do we know what Sky Sports channel is getting the F1? if its 3 or 4 then we on Virgin wont be getting it in HD, if they decide to dump the practice session onto the red button then again we on Virgin are set to miss out, as we only have red button on 1 and 2 at the moment (but that could change when Sky anytime+ launches on Virgin alter this year but im not going to hold my breath)
