15 minutes worth of racing at the moment. So, a few sprint races rather, than a 2 hour F1 race.
About what I was expecting. With any luck having Formula E around might actually improve electric car technology.

Isn't that a little....short. I like the idea for city courses though.
One section of the track could always be used to charge the cars via induction! You can drive quickly through this part, but you won't get as much charge... if you slow down you can get more go juice and power through that section later on.

I'm a goddamned genius (though I might've nicked the idea from the "pits" in Wipeout 2097).

Electric cars means one step closer to the Wipeout style future right?
Indeed, in fact my current project is based on the idea that Formula 1 will be forced to go all-electric, and the popularity of the sport will diminish due to the dull sounds and uninteresting power delivery of the electric motor.

A new sport will emerge, based on magnetic levitation. It will provide more of a spectacle than F1, and the technology will be far more exciting. Formula Zero is born. Call it Wipeout if you like, but the focus there is on weapons, and it's a bit too floaty, more like flying. F-Zero is a closer match to what could happen.

I'd imagine a Formula E thing would have some battery pack that can be disconnected and replaced within a minute or so.

No chance of Audi joining F1 any time soon. Yeah they are about to get a lot more competition in LMPs, plus they're selling every car they can make pretty much so no need for extra advertising from F1.

This. I imagine they can do a quick swappable battery pack. But if they go up to 30 minutes of power, then doing 2-3 sprint races rather than one long one would be just fine with me.

That electric car looks amazing. The acceleration is so fast and so smooth, beautiful. ANd I love hearing the tires and the wind whine, reminds me of biking very fast.

Hey F1-GAF, look what I bought!

It has an F1 shape (Kubica's helmet)!

Where did you buy that? I was looking for a vettel or kim helmet but i cant find it.

It's only the shape that's the same, not the same paintjob. It's a real Bell Helmet for Autosport.

You can buy replica's 1:1 on ebay sometimes and 2:1 at the official team stores (not sure about all of the drivers though)

Haven't posted in a while here but Spa GP was fantastic and should get a free entry to the F1 calendar for life IMO. Such a great track !
Great F1racemanager week-end for me too, 1st ex aequo of the website for this GP. :)

Regarding the 2012 calendar, I'm so glad that they've confirmed Brazil as the final round again. It's a shame that Turkey didn't get in though, dat turn 8 ! :(

I will be giving someone the chance to set up console leagues this year, but we're mostly PC players, so if someone steps up then it's your job to organise etc etc. :)

Edit: By "giving a chance" I mean I'm putting it in the OT for maximum chance of it happening.

Sucks for people who booked Austin stuff before the calendar was finalized. That date is much better anyways because the track should be finished for sure by then, and the weather will be much better.

Now that the date is set in stone, time to REALLY look at getting a good hotel room for under $200 a night before the prices are jacked up to 3x/4x that. Also need to watch and see when race tickets are going to be on sale. Before I was almost looking at staying around San Antonio and just driving to the track instead of paying insane hotel prices.

The Mac Pro I use would easily run F1 2011, it's just the computer is shared with my dad.

So that's why I'm siding with the 360/PS3 version. However given where my 360 is set up, probably the 360 version.

My wife and I are thinking of going. If so your right that it is probably a good idea to look at hotels soon.

Thing is, most online booking sites only let you look 330 days into the future. So you would have to look at booking around Christmas time. By then, most who already had inflated their prices for the race weekend will know about the date switch and will have pumped their prices up for that whole week.

No idea if you can CALL hotels and talk about booking already though. That might be a way to get around the price hike.

Don't they have a campsite? What I'm planning to do for Silverstone and that's a lot more risky given British weather.

I really enjoyed that onboard from Schumacher.

Also, is there a proper reason why the brake indicator on the TV-graphics still is on/off and not continuous like the throttle indicator is? It's been bugging me for years!

F1 cars don't actually have a brake 'pedal' as such. It's more of a level that you push down with your foot, when the lever is pushed far enough, the brake activates at full pressure depending on where the brake bias is set to.

Would you even be able to hear anything other than traction breaking and wind in the helmet? Must be incredibly unnerving.
It does - i could barely listen to it.

Also, 5 week break? Are they insane or is Bernie just reserving possible spot for additional race?

I think my MOMO connects to my PS3, but there's no good place to hook it up and play properly. Master race it is! Having tremendous amounts of fun with Shift 2 for the time being. Spent the last two days setting up my best car. Sort of starting to want to go back to the F1 rFactor league I used to drive in.
