How could Ferrari make a unit so down on power, if that is indeed true.

To be fair, its not just FER... ;-P

Laps till intermission:
Rosberg 64, Bottas 43, Kwyat 43, Magnussen 40, Perez 37, Ricciardo 32, Sutil 31, Maldonado 31, Chilton 16, Räikkönen 12, Kobayashi 7.

Q3 race 1 is going to be fuuuuun.

There were rumors since early last year that the Ferrari engine was very thirsty so maybe they had to reduce the power to reach the limit where they can reach the end of races with 100kg of fuel.

We even had some Ferrari engineers complaining in the media about F1 becoming a fuel conservation series in the future. And everytime a Ferrari engineer complains about stuff like this it's because they are in serious trouble.

Let's face it, it seems more and more likely that Mercedes teams will completely destroy the field this year. Now let's wait McLaren is able to challenge Mercedes.

...because theoretically that'll represent the power output the Renault engine is getting homologated at.

Don´t think so. Usable horsepower will be the question this year.
a) gas usage
b) rear traction
are the limiting elements.

BTW, Merc program for the afternoon: more race sims, and pit stop training.

Gas usage is limited by flow anyway isn't it? Sure, the fuel tank is even more restrictive but if what we've seen so far is any indication then anyone not in a Merc engined car isn't going to make Q3 anyway.

Any pics of Ferrari's "bigger update package" or it's not visible?

I think it's clear the Caterham has the biggest package, and that's quite visible.

McLaren closer to Mercedes this time around? Might just be a rogue data point. Force India suddenly looking very impressive indeed.

...just saying...

Chilton (Marussia): 1:38,610
Räikkönen (Ferrari): 1:38,761

:jnc

My. Fucking. God.

This year is going to fucking suck again isn't it. They can't do anything right these days. And now instea of just wasting Alonso his career, they are also killing Kimi. Terrible.

Looking at these stints, degradation is huge :/ So much for less deg this year :(

Funny thing is that on 2013 cars these tyres would probably allow 1 stoppers with pushing all the way.

Hard to say, as we do not know the fuel loads; and please keep in mind that the track temp was/is continually rising today.

I guess it's too late to hope that Mercedes has some unsurfaced problem?

Also we should decide on a fantasy league website soon.

Latest from Lotus:
"Diagnosis is exhaust issue (one of the new parts for this test) so we're stripping down and investigating further."

They seem to have spun more and had more issues than some others, especially McLaren. That's all I've got, other than that they are going to dominate.

A little more on Red Bull's troubles today from BEN ANDERSON.

"Apparently there's nothing wrong on the Renault side, but the RB10 is suffering overheating issues every time the driver tries to push it harder.

"Then it's back into the pits to open up the car and improve the cooling before the cycle repeats."

Oh-oh.
