The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection |OT| Ueda *bow*

Wow....that looks insane...hopefully it is fully representative. Looks like there has been an upgrade in the graphics because that looks just about the best looking game I have seen

I couldn't play SoTC due to the horrible framerate issues. I've also never played but the first 30 minutes or so of ICO. I think I'll pick this up.

English is really only needed for the menus. I'm pretty sure the NA release of Ico didn't even have English subs. You can easily play these in whatever language.

I'm looking forward to playing SOTC and Ico again.

I think the last boss I killed in Ico was surrounded by water.

And yes, I consider
surrounded by water
a spoiler.

You shouldn't be surprised to hear that there are environments in a game with an amazing environment.

Pretty sure what you're alluding to was in a trailer for the game. I'm pretty spoiler sensitive but I think you're stretching a bit.

If you're not joking, I regret to inform you that your opinion is wrong. How is that possible, you're asking yourself. I don't know. I was as surprised as you are.

I don't want to live in a world where the existence of water is a spoiler.
It's not the existence of water, it's that you fight a boss in it. When Shadow of the Colossus is all about the next big boss and not knowing what's coming, knowing that there's going to be a water boss is a spoiler. It's not a game-ruining spoiler, but it still means that someone can't now go into the game as fresh as someone who was playing it for the first time six years ago.

It's ironic because the boss in question is
a flying boss and the water is incidental beyond the fact you can fall from a great height and not die.

Anybody in this thread who actually likes Ico more than Shadow? I like Ico more in concept and Shadow more in practice imo.

I'd probably love ICO if not for the camera. Quit about 30 minutes in cause it was giving me a headache.

Very, very nice OT.

I'll get this but not for day one. Never tried SOTC only a bit of ICO, will get on 2012, that's for sure :)

I love both of them to death but I've never seen anyone who preferred the pure gameplay experience of Ico over SotC.

Anyone who ordered from play-asia not get an email yet? I just need some clarity to calm down so I can stop checking every 2 minutes.

I did not get any e-mail from them. Order still shows as preparing, and my Yesasia order is not shipping either (e-mailed me about the delay). Good thing CDJapan pulled through, shipped yesterday. :D

I think Ico is way better.

I can see why people would feel this way.

But to me, the whole game just felt like an annoying escort mission.

Looking forward to giving the game another go in HD and hopefully finding a deeper appreciation for it.

I think it helps that the game is mad easy. Escort missions usually suck because the other person has a health bar, and is weak sauce, constantly dying. It's really easy to run thru Ico without Yorda ever being dragged down.

And that's not like message board bravado crap, I'm terrible at video games.

Got an e-mail from Solaris Japan saying my LE box shipped... that's a sigh of relief, because it was the only store that I found still taking orders about 3 and a half months ago, and they charged me via PayPal immediately. Would not have liked to have to deal with it if they couldn't fulfill the order.

And yes, Ico is definitely the better game. Even beyond the technical issues SotC had, there were gameplay aspects that detracted from it (the game did not need a collectible aspect, and while I can appreciate why the horse controls are what they are, that doesn't mean I enjoy it). And the relationship between Ico and Yorda is done much better than that between Wander and Mono (or Wander and Agro).

not surprised - seems your memories of the games've gotten a little hazy :) ...

Aww my bad. Yeah SotC. I assume semiconscious, that was what you were also referring to as well.

I must've been worse than you, at least when it was released, because I recall wanting to throw my controller at those goddamn shadow fuckers.

They're going down this time

One thing I don't remember if the game actually tells you, is if you can get to those magic gates with Yorda, all the monsters will disappear. You very rarely have to actually fight stuff.

At some point, I think, the game shows you that the gates destroy the enemies, but for whatever reason it didn't occur to me to employ it regularly as a strategy. I look forward to trying this wherever possible because I hate the combat.

Hm, I honestly don't recall if I took advantage of that or not :\

I don't get how people can say Ico is better than SotC. They are two completely different games. Kinda like saying Gran Turismo is better than Final Fantasy (this is an extreme example obviously). Just doesn't make sense.

Heh OK you've got me there...I guess what I mean is since both Ico and SotC are of extremely high quality, it just boils down to what type of gameplay you personally prefer. It doesn't sound right to call one better than the other, whereas with something like the example you gave one is clearly superior.

It is killing me that my copy is sitting in the backroom waiting for Tuesday to roll around. Luckily I have a surgery next week, so I'll have plenty of time to play these =D
