The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

It's definitely the type of game that punishes you for not being aware of positioning; if you leave a man out of cover and he's in sight of someone, he'll take quite a beating. It also has an X-COM-my cover fire system, and learning to use it well, go slowly, and always keep your hunters in cover goes a long way to surviving missions. The nice part of Hunters is that there is no time limit or penalty for taking extra turns, so don't feel compelled to have to always advance as fast as possible.

The one thing Hunters 2 needs is iCloud support since it's universal. It plays like a dream on iPad, and it's a little cramped on iPhone but being able to pick at a turn or two when I'm out is so alluring. I hate having two different teams of hunters right now. :(
The devs wanted to use iCloud but couldn't get the save game size down under Apple's very strict size conditions.

:( That's a bummer. I guess I'll make a permanent second team on iPhone. It's really a hell of a game; I slept on it a bit since the first Hunters was a little repetitive for me, but the changes and extra polish on Hunters 2 is fantastic.

Any recommendations on non-square (I already have all the square ones in some portable form) jrpgs or srpgs on the IOS?.

I find srpgs and jrpgs easily the best console style games on smartphones because of the lack of need for precision controls. It's find of strange that there's a bajillion arpg (all those koreans ones) that control like crap but I can't find a decent supply of jrpgs.

I'm late to the party too in Hunters 2 (can't remember why I didn't bought it before, but it was a wrong decision) but I'm
loving it too.
Actually doing the daily contracts to upgrade some gears and manage to pass mission 5 on the main quest.
Loving the game so much I've started to remember my men by name (quite an achievement for the game, considering there is no background story or dialogues for them).
REALLY REALLY sad to hear it doesn't have iCloud...I'm playing on iPhone on holiday and I can't wait to try it on the iPad at home...I'll try iExplorer to transfer the saves).

Are the daily contracts the same for everyone?
As soon as I started to use cover properly I found them WAAAAAY easier than the campaign missions.

Crimson Gem Saga (which is Korean I believe but is a JRPG, basically).
Cthulhu Saves the World.
Adventure Bar Story.

Another one I haven't seen mentioned much which was recently shown on TA is Spectral Souls, which searching impressions of the PSP version, seem to indicate it's a god-awful game due to the incredibly horrendous loading times, for battles, for accessing the menus, even for text boxes to come up in dialogs. Strangely enough, it seems all that loading time is fixed in the iOS port... and seems to play a bit like your normal sRPG, with virtual controls thrown on.

I take it you've tried the usual others? Ravenmark, Legion of the Damned, Call Of Cthulhu – The Wasted Land, Hunters 2, Squids 1 & 2, and so on? If not, there's a bunch of good ones that usually make the rounds like that.

I just pinged Rodeo Games on Twitter, and apparently they are prepping an announcement on their next project (currently slated for early 2013, according to their site) and *that* game will have iCloud support. Here's hoping for another deep strategy-ish game.

Oh my f. You guys aren't kidding about how great Gasketball is.
My only complaint is how easy it is to over-/under-estimate your flick when trying for a perfect 3 (or 4 :) ) star run. fun to play, very difficult to master. Not because of it being hard, but because of the mechanics.

Remember Stolen Couch Games The village? It has been renamed into: Castaway Paradise.

Gameplay video and screenshots will be released in the next two weeks :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've tried the game for 5 mins and all I saw was a typical flick-based game. Did not hold my interest at all.

I deleted it soon after. Maybe it's just not for me.

Game Center. Think you were on Pocket Planes as well, but I do recall adding lots of folk thinking that there was some relation to the username here.

PS I think some of the quests' dialogue is gold. The bird poo ones, and some of the backhanders (recipe, Zoe etc) are great.

Oh, that's right. I did add some people before I knew it wasn't required.

Yeah, there's a lot of great dialogue in the game. There was a bit with one of the main characters about how his grandmother, I think, would dress him up as a girl because she wanted a granddaughter.

Well, there's a lot I'm digging about Hunters 2, not least of all the fact that it's as much a defensive game as it is an offensive game (a la Valkyria Chronicles). But one thing is bugging the shit out of me: you can't move past allies. Major flaw for me, especially since I'm already seeing a lot of bottlenecks in the level design. Not moving past enemies? I get that. But allies blocking your path? What the **** is that!?

The lack of an undo button also kills me (for moves). But the game is awesome otherwise.

What I've learned (as a way to combat bottlenecking) is to split your squad up. Or, obviously, put your faster units out front to play a move-shoot-move or a move-shoot-defend tactic into play. Also, stimpacks are incredible for this.

All right, so the stimpacks heal, or what do they do again? I accidentally clicked past the tutorial message regarding that. I know the little cross deal heals your units, but are stimpacks like phoenix downs or something? :P

No, stimpacks give you AP back. Level 1 gives you 2 AP, level 2 gives full AP.

Spectral Souls is a horrid game period. The loading times did not help but the game itself it very clumsy.

Any thoughts on Super Mole Escape? I'm guessing it'll be better on the iPhone with all the tilting, but curious.

It's pretty fun. It's like a vertical Jetpack Joyride but with many more obstacles as well as always being chased so you need to keep up a good speed. There's also a control option for touch to move around if you don't like the tilting.

Very much work in progress graphics. We rushed to get a build ready for Gamescom.

But the dialog system is up and running. Including emotions, which are awesome.

Castaway Paradise. weeeehhh

OMG took me 2 and a half god damn hours to finally beat the last level of offroad legends with three stars. Has anyone else done it? How did it take you? Lemme tell you that soooo much madness and anxiety went into beating that cursed level. So glad I got it though.

I love that art style. How similar is this going to be to Animal Crossing?

It's a mix between Animal Crossing & Harvest moon. You can decorate your character, your house and the island. You will have to be friends with the villagers by doing jobs for them and chatting with them. And you can do stuff like farming, to earn money etc. The game has more mechanical depth than animal crossing on those fronts.

Oh, nice. Really looking forward to playing it.

I just got Wargames, was impressed with the cool presentation.....

then the dubstep started playing. No respect for fine cine.

Woot woot. Niche market product is a go-go.

I haven't laid down any cash for the full game yet, but the free version was great, so I probably will at some point.

According to the in game counter I played 13 hours Hunters 2 in less than 2 days (and I'm on holiday with wife and son...I'm risking my life here).

I scare myself.

Mission 7 in the campaign now.
The game is really amazing...I really wonder why I didn't bought it when it came out.

Sooo good.

Dungeon Raid, is it still worth getting if my only iDevice is an iPad 2? Why can't they just make it Universal, then it'd be an easy choice.

Also think I'm going to get WarGames, so should I even bother with Dungeon Raid, they seem similar.

lol picked up hunter 2.

Lost the very first tutorial mission :S

You will die a lot at first. Once you start to level up your guys, get some nice equipment (loot from kills), and play a mission a few times, it gets much more manageable. Defending is incredibly useful, and it's required if you want to survive.

As I've mentioned before as well, upgrading stim packs is a HUGE bonus early on. Being able to retreat or get two extra attacks (at level 1) makes all the difference.
