See also Word Fighter.

Word Realms looks worse visually (though that is an old video), not that Word Fighter looks great, but seems to sport much more interesting gameplay elements (equipment verbs modifying their bonuses, special rounds where you can only use certainly types of words, map to explore and so on). Shame a mobile/tablet version is only still just a possibility down the road.

Wow, I bit the bullet and signed up for tapjoy last night. I was concerned at first due to having to install it and the fact that it seemed sort of "scammy", but it has worked flawlessly every time I've used it.

I'm wreckin' shop I'm Dead Trigger now with my Enfield and level two M4 and auto-heal. I might do a few more offers and even pick up the coin and damage doublers.

I'm really impressed and surprised that Tapjoy works, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Yup, definitely makes it easy to earn gold.

Data suggests iOS may be the most popular gaming platform of all time

Market research firm Asymco recently compared cumulative sales of home console and handheld gaming devices to the number of registered users for the iOS Game Center service as a way to measure iOS as a gaming platform. Apple noted during its keynote address at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference that Game Center—a free service that facilitates high score tracking, achievements, and online play—has 130 million users. Asymco suggests that number can serve as a proxy for the number of iOS gamers; as such, they put iOS well ahead of any current console, and trail just behind the Nintendo DS's roughly 150 million unit sales. Considering the Playstation 2's roughly 150 million unit sales, that would rank iOS as the third most popular gaming platform of all time.

The raw sales figures alone put the iOS platform itself far beyond any dedicated gaming platform. Apple has sold over 400 million total iOS devices, which beats the combined sales of all current-generation consoles as well as combined sales of portable gaming platforms. As our own Senior Gaming Editor Kyle Orland noted, "Even with a small percentage of iOS users actively gaming, as measured by Game Center, it's still bigger than most any major console."

Asymco says that at its current growth rate, Game Center users could likely exceed the 150 million mark by September. They could break the 200 million mark by year's end. No other dedicated gaming platform has reached sales of 200 million units.

I think most of my friends don't even use GameCenter even though they play stuff on their iOS devices. But yeah, it's unsurprising that it's the biggest closed platform used for gaming.

If Fieldrunners 2 for iPad is released before I leave on my business trip on Sunday that'd be so awesome. Hurry up dammit!

edit: Wow, someone asked today if it was weeks or months, and they basically said they are hoping for the former, but to stay tuned. How the hell could it take this long to release an iPad version? Ridiculous.

The no tablet version is kindof a deal breaker, I just thought that WF could be perfect two player fun on an iPad. And am still hoping that it does appear before Christmas 2012.

Also it's almost Wednesday guys!

Our second collaboration with Adult Swim is out tonight! (They previously published our second iOS game: Bring Me Sandwiches!!) It's... Super Mole Escape!

We're pretty excited about this one, it's very pick-up-and-play friendly, and I think we've successfully differentiated it from other endless runners in a number of ways (including a really cool speed-boost comboing feature, and lots of power-ups). Our inspiration and goal was to take something like Jetpack Joyride and add elements of one of our favorite games.. Mario Kart!

There's also an online Versus mode complete with a badge/rank-up ladder system. We've been wanting to do a multiplayer game for the last two years now, so... really looking forward to taking on other GAFfers! :)

Super Mole Escape's screen grabs remind me of Chicken's Can't Fly on WP7. Is that a fair impression? Images aren't always indicative of how a game actually plays, but it looks eerily similar. Any connection? I ask because I enjoyed it on WP7, but I ditched the platform due to the lack of useful apps (non-game) sadly, and miss Chicken's Can't Fly (still take my WP7 with me on occasion to play a few of the games on it)

I'd actually never heard of Chicken's Can't Fly, but just took a quick look at a Youtube vid.. and it looks interesting :) Based on my 30 seconds of viewing that footage, I'd say it's definitely similar, though Super Mole Escape has more of an emphasis on speed and boosting (to the point where it almost feels like a racing game).

Thanks for bringing that game to my attention -- I'll have to check it out!

Finally bought Hunters 2 because of the sale...What a fantastic game!
I'm really liking it as well - it feels even more polished than the first one, and having both a "story mode" and daily missions helps give some variety to the game. The way it relies so heavily on cover fire makes it really distinct. If it's still on sale, anyone with a remote interest in a top-down strategy RPG needs to pick it up.

Looks like I'll get the new Adult Swim game tonight. Have high hopes for Gasketball too.

Kind off-topic but are there any good sites like Touch Arcade for Android? I somehow doubt it, but thought this'd be the place to ask.

Game is also WICKED hard. I can't beat any of the contract missions!

Yeah, some of the contracts are really difficult, especially the "defend the reactor" one from today (are everyone's daily contracts the same?) since enemies can just ignore you an blast the reactors. The nice part is that even if you fail a contract, I think you keep your XP and maybe loot, so it's not a total loss. I haven't played too much, but I'm bouncing between the daily contracts and story missions.

Right now I'm finding the plasma gun and rocket launcher almost overpowered; the RAWKET LAWNCHAIR with a light armored hunter is almost a one-hit kill, and the overcharge on the plasma gun is also insanely
powerful.

At least dying (non-hardcore) still gives me exp! I have like, no money...But leveling up and getting loot + skill points is REALLY helping.

For anyone who hasn't bought in yet, at $0.99, Hunters 2 is CRAZY good value.

I've been playing Dungeon Raid, it's good, better than 100000 but I do prefer Wargames in that each level is like a separate battle rather than an endless puzzler.
Yeah, I'm the same. But then I realised once you finished WarGames on Hard (which was easy when you finished on Medium, because once you could afford the "clear board" powerup, any countdown tiles were pretty much nullified) there's literally no more game to play. No high score mode or anything. At least DR keeps me playing with it's endless grinding ;)

I haven't played 10000000 yet... I assume it's a similar game? Worth it for however much it costs?

Haha, are we friends on Steam also? Or are you talking about Game Center?

Game Center. Think you were on Pocket Planes as well, but I do recall adding lots of folk thinking that there was some relation to the username here.

PS I think some of the quests' dialogue is gold. The bird poo ones, and some of the backhanders (recipe, Zoe etc) are great.

So, with the Fighting Fantasy games going away in 5 days, I'm wondering if I should grab them. How are they on iPad?

They've always looked like an inferior product to the stuff Tin Man Games puts out, this being their latest (not that either one is really "great"), and I've yet to go through TMG's stuff, so I can't bring myself to buy them. Plus, whenever there's a app leaving the app store sale, it also could screw you over if you plan on upgrading your device or OS sometime soon, and the app never gets a needed compatibility update for it to run rendering it useless.

I asked myself the same question? Which one is the best? Bummer that they don't offer them for 0,99€. I would love to have them all but that's too expensive
Edit : okay I got it

Uuuuuh a Judge Dredd game book? I think I'm gonna get that once I have an iPad mini ;)

10000000 is a pretty excellent game, but I will say that once I actually hit 10 million points, "finished" the game (it just unlocks an endless mode), and got all of the equipment unlocks, a lot of the game's drive faded away for me. It scratches a lot of the same itches as DR, with the major difference being it's real-time, so instead of being slower and methodical, it's frantic and fast-paced since you're always fighting the clock. Some people are turned off by the real-time nature; for me, it was a nice change of pace since it means each game lasts 3 to 8 minutes, instead of one game of DR taking place over a few days.

I think 10m is worth the $1.99 or $2.99 it is now, though; the music is pretty awesome, the grind to unlock gear and higher score multipliers is compelling, the mini-missions Jetpack Joyride-style give you different things to shoot for, and it's a refreshing spin on the puzzle-RPG subgenre. I still think DR is the "better" game, but as a companion to DR, 10m is a nice change of pace.

Well, downloading it now. Hope it's not too brutal. Was considering buying it at full price, but all the reviews say the same thing: it's HARD!

After basically farming the same contract mission over and over (and dying...), I was lucky enough to get two really solid guns to drop (loot!). I can now complete at least one of the daily contracts. I still can't beat the mission I'm on, but I can at least farm exp and credits for a while. I've upgraded the attack power on two of my guys along with level 1 stimpack, and they can go into most crowds and destroy shit. Once you start to figure out working team combinations and equipment loadouts, it becomes manageable. BUT! Not a walk in the park, haha.

It is a very challenging game, though. Mind you, I'm not very good at turn-based strategy games to begin with, so that may play a role.

Thanks. I guess I'll pass. I have fond memories of Warlock of Firetop Mountain and Citadel of Chaos and a tablet could make lots of sense for these.
I'll wait for Blood of the Zombies. If TMG's versions are better, I hope they somehow redo Firetop Mountain or Citadel of Chaos down the line.

Not much. Most notable in the last few days for me has been a sale on Hunters 2 ($0.99). Other than that, nothing has inspired me to take my nose out of FFT -- about 90 hours and counting.

How are the speed & controls for FFT? I had a blast with War of the Lions on PSP and would definitely buy it again on the iPad if it's a solid port. I've had some bad luck with Square iOS games so I'm a bit leery.

Yeah, sorry, Final Fantasy Tactics. Bought the iOS version a couple of weeks back and have been hooked ever since.
Just make sure to play in Hardcore mode. A very unforgiving permadeath mode.

It's definitely the type of game that punishes you for not being aware of positioning; if you leave a man out of cover and he's in sight of someone, he'll take quite a beating. It also has an X-COM-my cover fire system, and learning to use it well, go slowly, and always keep your hunters in cover goes a long way to surviving missions. The nice part of Hunters is that there is no time limit or penalty for taking extra turns, so don't feel compelled to have to always advance as fast as possible.

The one thing Hunters 2 needs is iCloud support since it's universal. It plays like a dream on iPad, and it's a little cramped on iPhone but being able to pick at a turn or two when I'm out is so alluring. I hate having two different teams of hunters right now. :(

From what I've read, slowdown isn't an issue on newer devices. I'm playing on 3GS, and there was some pretty frustrating slowdown during spell animations. However, taking advice from some folks on GameFAQs, I turned off the ally/enemy indicators, and it did help a lot. Lag is usually a game killer for me, but the issues here are very doable.

The controls are good, but take some getting used to. You have a lot more control over the camera here than you do in the PSP version. But it comes at the cost of having to switch between control over turning the camera and moving it over the map. I got used to it eventually, and going back to the PSP version took some getting used to. The text is really small, though, and there were times when I would accidentally select "unit" instead of "tile" when casting, which, as I'm sure you know, can totally eff you up if a unit moves right next to you. :P

Just got Luso in my second playthrough, so obviously these issues haven't been holding me back from enjoying the game. It's a god-damned addiction is what it is!
