I agree with jett, at its core it's a PS3 game. That means the majority of things are influenced by the 480MB memory limit and the rest of the specifications of the PS3.

Of course the same game at 1080p will look nicer than at 720p.

I don't consider these things massive differences. Massive differences is when you're talking generational leaps.

Jesus Christ! Looking back, I can't believe games like TLoU were made with such a small amount of memory. It seemed amazing at the time, but now it's just ridiculous.

Yesssss I have a PS4! Bring this game to me on a silver platter. Or don't, I'll just download it.

While the asset quality is probably not going to change greatly, the unknown factors are lighting, AA, DOF, motion blur, etc.

These could have a fairly dramatic impact on how the game looks even if the assets are unchanged

I started the single player on PS3 some time ago and had to put it down early in the game so I was looking forward to playing on PS4. I've never played MP; are you saying the mp community in general are a-holes?

No, I guess it's like any other community. There are assholes everywhere but the past few days I've only just come across them and it just got to me I guess.

Push square to mute all, game gets much better after. Just stick with your team.

You probably didn't play Gears of War at all, did you? Same concept. :p

But yeah, i normally mute all because I'm over that sort of thing.

Like others have said, mute and keep playing. I personally never had a problem with this. In fact when I first started some people said helpful hints like try not too sprint much, etc.

I usually always mute but I don't know why I didn't that day.

Mute them and join another lobby. I've found that Naughty Dog MP games always attracts the biggest try hard assholes, but I've also come across some really nice and helpful players as well. Every game has its share of rotten eggs, so just try finding other people to play with and ignore the jerk offs.

That awkward moment when I ended up playing with you last night with my 2 other friends.

Wait, are you talking to me? xD We played?

Oh, definitely. I just might be pedantic on the usage of the the word "massive."

I think the Definitive Edition with the additions they've makes the game overall look better than on my PC, but I wouldn't call it a massive difference even from the PS3 version. It's a big difference, but it's still fundamentally the same game.

A generational leap is where I think that word is applicable. Using some random corridor cover based person shooter and then looking at The Order 1886 for example is a massive difference to me.

Who used the word "massive"? Certainly not me. A big difference is exactly what it'll be.

Having never experienced TLoU I'm glad I get to play it first on the PS4 in the best possible way.

I almost bought a PS3 just to play this game.

But how isn't Tomb Raider a generational leap? It's amongst the best looking games on PS4 certainly. If it's not 'next-gen', nothing is.

does anyone know if the Canadian version be censored? I can't find anything definitive either way. I was going to import from videogameplus.ca to the UK but now I am not sure.

Also 1st post, hi

No. Infamous: SS is a generational leap. TR looks great, but games like Infamous are on another level.
I totally disagree. InFamous looks great, certainly, and better than Tomb Raider, but just taking the single best looking game and saying it's a next-gen leap is implying no other game is, which is absurd.

Compared with TR I agree with him but compared with Killzone for example I agree with you.

I don't care if they left the resolution the same as ps3 and made it 60 fps. I just want a good multiplayer game. I feel that people care to much about this stuff but then tell everyone to go play indie games...makes no sense. Gameplay is all that matters and this game seems to have it.

If you count native 1080p, at 60FPS, with upgraded high-res textures, new lighting model, actual worthy anti-aliasing, cutscene-level character models in gameplay and whatever other upgrades they implemented as 'not all that different', sure I can see how you can say that.
We need to see if it's actually a new lighting model or small upgrades to the current one.

Canadian versions are exactly the same as the US versions. Always has been, always will be.

I don't know what you mean by that.

The difference between last-gen and current-gen is really nothing profound, we've seen no major technical shift at all this time. Last-gen's transition was all about shader properties and a huge increase in geometry density, this time we've had no real graphical changes. We have more particle effects and improved transparencies, etc, but a PS3 game on PS4 is basically on par with the ground up PS4 games. Puppeteer, Beyond, TLoU, GoW, etc, all at 1080p/60fps would look absolutely inline with the 'real' current games we're seeing. TLoU Remastered will look as good as practically anything on the system.

Did they say anything about the AA?

Not yet, but someone in this thread mentioned the PS3 had dynamic AA which was not in use most of the time because it gets disabled when performance struggles (ie very frequently). So we might assume that whatever AA method existed has either been locked in permanently or even if it remains dynamic, will always run since it sounds like the game won't suffer any performance drops this time around.

All speculation of course.

less than a month away and no videos or screenshots. either there hiding something really special or thier hiding something truly disapointing. if it looks as good as TR:DE I wont complain. But I want it to be better. who am I kidding, its ND!

Now I know Ryse is not on the PS4 but it's still a current gen game so I guess you think it'll look as good as Ryse on Xbox One?

I think you're correct, but this is mostly due to game productions not making assets for truly next-gen systems yet. Launch window games had to play it conservatively as well, since they couldn't target final hardware.

Stuff like The Order and Uncharted 4 show a pretty huge visual leap because they've been targeting final, next-gen hardware from the start.

I am palying Ass Creed BF at the moment and it looks the same to me as I played it on PS3. its better of course but you cant see the differnce unless you hold them up side by side.

infamous SS on the other hand looks better then just about everything else on the system. it was first game I played on it where I said "you cant do this on PS3".

US Gaf should remember that Kmart is giving out $20 gift cards when you purchase the game the first week of launch. That gift card can then be used on a number of preorders which also result in $20 gift cards. It's the best deal available by a long shot.

yeah getting a store card seemed like the best idea, although looking @ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004RMK4BC/?tag=neogaf0e-20

you need a valid us address, so if im unable to tack on my uk debit card to a random house in usa i might have to go elsewhere!

It's easy - just pick an oregon based address and add it to your amazon address book. You can use it for US purchases and leave your UK address for normal purchases. I do it quite often.

There might not be any DLC anyway? It's all rolled up into this edition isn't it?

Tbh if you're ok with buying from the US store, you could just buy the whole game on digital from US PSN. It's $49.99 I think, which is the equivalent to £30

Edit: can you turn the gore down in the US version?

I doubt they'd be Spittin' so many boastful words on twitter if it wasn't running well. We'll see I guess, but I trust that it's something special

Is it odd to anyone that ND has yet to show any substantial in game footage? Or are they still grinding to hit their goals? Not sure, but still optimistically excited.

I don't remember an option to turn down the gore. As for DLC, cosmetic MP pieces & custom loadouts for 4 weapons and 8 survivor skills are gonna be cross buy DLC.

We recently announced that it’ll be a level playing field in Factions mode as player progress from The Last of Us PS3 multiplayer will not carry over to the PS4 version. However PS3 players will be getting a supply bonus to give their progression a boost. We can now also say that all current DLC content – head items, weapons, and survival skills – that you have purchased for PS3 will be available for you in the PS4 version. So check out the latest DLC if you haven’t yet.
