The Last of Us: Remastered |OT| Game of the Years

Just played that and this time I knew what to expect and holy shit was that tense! I'm like
"Okay, I started the generator now I'll run here and- OH MY GOD THE BLOATER SPAWNED HERE AND NOT WHERE I REMEMBERED and then I almost soiled myself.

The first time I played (PS3 version) the Bloater just never spawned.

Second time (PS4 version, first attempt) the Bloated spawned right by the fucking door. I walked into him and died instantly.

Third time he spawned I don't know where I was too busy running.

Anyways. just finished Left Behind. Incredible DLC. Just... incredible.

Does anyone know of a guide that explains tactics on specific encounters on survivor / grounded? I want to try those difficulties, but would like some guidance.

Someone posted this earlier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjIKMYx1Q9k&list=PL9wQ6NcGxW_bV752QKYuB5Tp1yEHxFGz-

Apparently it is someone doing a grounded run without taking any damage. It doesn't explain things, but you can watch and get a feel for things. If I remember correctly the strategy guide was written with Hard as the difficulty so I am not sure how much help that'll be.

Just finished left behind on survivor.. Died a total of one time in the last encounter.. wasn't near as bad as many here made it seem. Now for Survivor+ on the main game.

I am enjoying this so far, but I definitely have a complaint.

During the stealth parts, with actual living enemies, they know where I am.
For instance, Early - mid game spoilers
after Tess dies
, the enemies there walk to the main room, if I'm behind the wooden cases, they both circle the cases and see me. If I hide behind the couch, they forget the cases and circle the couch. If I hid in the doorway/broken staircase area, they both come over to that area.

Why do they alter their path? The only explanation is they know where I'm hiding, and I have to distract or kill them before they discover me.

Thats weak, IMO. They should have a patrol route and stick to it. I noticed it earlier on when going to find
Robert
, but it wasnt as prevalent as it was a wider, more open area.

Funny thing with that
basement segment is that I had an oddly concentrated amount of A.I glitches and bugs during it. For instance, I started the generator and some runner came to me but it was just running around me and none of my melee attacks could connect. The same "I can't see you Joel, where are you?" glitch happened multiple times with the runners during the basement even after I died.

Just got to Pittsburgh. Been taking my time and forcing myself not to binge play through it. Being busy at work has helped. Such an incredible game

I don't think many people think LB is hard on survivor... Aside from the last encounter. At least that is my least favorite part.

I just arrived at Winter...

And this game is easily top 5 for me right now. Hell, I think about it when I'm at work. Thinking what I'm going to do, what I need to do. That's not normal for me.

Depending upon how it ends, it just might crack the top 2. Going to be hard to push Chaos Theory off the throne though.

It gets better
winter is amazing

Just hit Fall.

The most heartfelt moment of the game so far for me is actually the
former sewer group. Finding the notes, exploring the space... they were so close. And you have to put them down.

Live event ending
is not the true ending nor is it canon. It is cut content that was cut for a reason, because it would have weakened the ending used in-game.

It's not the "true ending" and it isn't canon. It was an ending they considered, and ultimately rejected. I'd say canon is
everything that actually made the game, "okay" included.

Still it's weird to show it while they know the content of it will go online. Either you don't talk about it (like they did since last week) or you reveal everything about it because you think it's worth sharing (like they did with other endings they thought about or ideas they had back in the dev process). Here, it spoils the beauty of the end. Even if it's non-canon and even if it doesn't portait the real relationship between Ellie and Joel, it's like shooting on what you've built without earning nothing.

I am so damn jealous of everyone playing this for the first time, absolutely loving reading all the impressions. Easily my favorite game of all time.

I don't know about cracking your top 2 and I mean no disrespect as you're obviously entitled to your opinion but, man, is Splinter Cell Chaos Theory seriously your greatest game of all time?

And for the record: TLoU is probably my own personal GOAT.

Honestly I'm garnering as much enjoyment on my fifth run as I did on my first which is exceptional when you consider how narrative based The Last Of Us is. The only consistent downer is how daft the AI is, other than that it's as close to flawless as it gets for me.

I noticed this much earlier in the game
when you first encounter a patrol outside the city with Tess and Ellie
. If I hid behind a couch a certain way, one guard would adjust his route accordingly to "spot" me. It was done so naturally, I didn't really care at the time, but I can understand the complaint. I believe it was done so you--the player--is constantly on the move and not just turtling. It makes the game a much more tense affair since you have to adapt on the fly.

I agree with you that it would have been better left in the vault. Frankly it sounded like a pretty stupid epilogue. I think they just wanted to show "something special" for the avid fans who attended the performance. I know they don't want to ever release any actual footage of the scene (but obviously the description would still leak out).

Ya I just beat it for the third time and am eager to play a fourth time, but first gotta dig into the MP a bit!

If you think it's too loud, you can simply decrease Dynamic Range in the Audio options. I personally always have it set at maximum, except when I need to use Midnight Mode.

As an aside, I now realise my previous post came out too strong with no justification, so I'll write a post about why I disagreed with the bolded so much.

I think its already set on the quietest which was default for me.

Maybe I'll adjust the effects volume slider

I just finished Winter and if TLOU is already that high for you before Winter, completing it will definitely cement it.

Winter is fucking amazing.

It is. I know I'm probably one of few, but as a stealth action fan myself, Chaos Theory is perfection. The choice, open, sandbox environments, excellent use of light and shadows, UI that makes you focus on not only your visibility but also the amount of sound you make. It was ahead of its time, and really shined then and now. The dry humor, and the last cohesive story that was Clancy inspired really just works. The levels are all memorable, from start to finish, and playing on hard, with zero alarms allowed? Tough as hell.

Is it perfect? No, but boy is it memorable, and has endless replay value. Spies Vs Mercs and the Co-Op gameplay is just icing on the cake.

For whatever reason I just had the worst luck against (75% through the game spoilers)
David.
I never struggled as much as I did this time.

My second play through was like that back on PS3. This time on the remaster I finished it in about 30 seconds (minus the cutscenes).

Chaos Theory was amazing. It's a shame the direction the series has gone. I can see having at the top of ones personal favorites list, especially if they are a fan of stealth games.

Wrapped up my first grounded play through and it wasn't too bad though they should have done more work on checkpoints. I don't mind failing a scenario but having to re-pickup supplies right after I spawn over and over again is a drag. The game seems to have a bunch of graphical glitches throughout that were not present in the PS3 version. I wish they would have let this one bake in the oven a tad longer.

Reached the fall season
with Joel waking up and looking for an emprisonned Ellie
....

This game is a fu***** masterpiece...I am already thinking about my next run.

Try grounded. You'll hate your life due to the lack of a checkpoint in the finale.

Two deaths for me on grounded. There are a few safe points to hang out during the encounter that let you pick off enemies one by one and guard the door. Try and save your bow ammo from the previous encounters, though I managed to get by with one arrow and four bullets.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I pretty much had 3 spots in the game that I thought were pretty hard when I first played TLoU on hard, and on my second playthrough a year later on the same difficulty they've all been very easy(
the hotel basement, the sniper section, the horde fight with ellie + dave
).

Getting close to the end now, the only other spot that comes to mind is the end of Left Behind so I'll see what happens there. I'm getting the Sony Gold headset tomorrow so I might just restart again on grounded with those.

The ai kept acting random and stupid as shit for me. Id get caught for no reason so many times, and it was hard to tell when you were in sneak mode because enemies were walking searching but when you try to backstab them they turn around and knock you out like Mike Tyson.

I just got back from 4 days camping in the wilderness of the Sierra Nevadas. Had a lot of fun but I was thinking about Joel and Ellie quite a bit. It's good to be back :D

I had AI problem with the encounter by the record store. I'd back stab one enemy and it would alert the other two for some reason. Human enemies behaved normally otherwise. Clickers and stealth never went well for me so I just resorted to avoidance or brick/bottle then melee.

So yea, even on a 3rd play through, and after a year's break, this game is still peerless. Stands the test of a year effortlessly, and I have a feeling it'll remain a classic even years to come.

My biggest fear is actually ND not being able to top this with Last of Us 2. I feel like ND may have hit franchise peaks with both UC2 and LoU, as I'm not entirely sure how much you can really improve these games overall, at least LoU anyway. It's just brilliant. They can improve things like AI, melee etc, but I'm not sure they can top the overall pacing, acting, narrative and scenario designs.

More on audio.

On a side note, playing with my T1 headphones, plugged in to a little FiiO D03k Digital to Analogue Convertor (Optical to RCA or 3.5mm jack, has its own power supply), and the audio is just on another level. Powers my headphones surprisingly well. I actually have the volume turned down about 40% in the game options, so power is ample.

The Hotel Lobby area basically shat me up all over again, and so many other sound effects are so visceral you either feel immense satisfaction shooting certain weapons etc off, or dread hearing them get fired at you. That Humvee with the 50 cal, holy crap the bass and thunderous roar is just immense. Feels so threatening. Also, the subtlety and nuance in the multitude of ambient sounds constantly surrounding you is so well done.

If anyone wants to try the DAC to use with the PS4 for use with speakers, or direct headphone input (much better audio quality than via the control pad), here's the one I'm using. It's inexpensive and offers excellent audio quality for the money.

First time player, and i don't understand why everyone is masturbating furiously to this game. I really don't.
The story is good, and thats about all its got going for it (besides mostly great voice acting.)
The gameplay is just the same old cover shooter, stealth mechanic in every third person shooter out there.

Multiplayer is the only highlight.

I wouldn't be so concerned. TLOU doesn't rely on over the top action set pieces the way the Uncharted series does so you aren't going to run into the issue of trying to top the action sequences in the previous installment.

Think my brain just spoiled the ending for me...

Start of Spring. Joel says how he is going to teach Ellie guitar. For some reason my mind thinks now that the Fireflies will be their. They are going to want to kill Ellie to do studies on her. Either that is the ending of Joel decides not to let them do that and kills them all.

Please tell me I didn't think of the ending lol

Play the game and see how it wraps up. It's worth not spoiling.

On a side note, I just watched Ellie steal that Gundam toy for Sam. After he's told not to take it and gameplay resumes, she walks over to it and just stands there doing nothing. I walked away but keeping sight of her, and sure enough she nabbed it. Walked over again for a better view and the toy was gone lol.

Finished the game for my second time, just as impactful as the first. From a narrative perspective it is without a doubt the best game I've ever played. I have never seen humanity portrayed so accurately in a game.

Strange thought, but the game really reminds me of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, which happens to be one of my favorite books.

Can you watch her steal the porn mag from Bill? I don't know if it's before or after she 'fixes the pile', presumably it's in his bedroom actually.
