Funny enough, it just doesn't bug me that much. I have atleast 30 books in my backlog, and those are only counting the individual series (so if I have read Prisoner of Azkaban, the next book on my HP queue is Book 4, not book 4, 5, 6 and 7). And one of the series I am reading is fucking discworld. And that's not counting my game, movie, TV show, comics and manga backlog. Go read everything else, I can assure you that it'll even help you appreciate ASoIaF more by having things to compare and contrast it to.
So 5 years is no problem. The only problem is the show, which is going to make any forum a minefield for Book 7. Otherwise, I'm currently waiting on about a dozen sequels and I am patient as a stone as long as I have all my other books to read. Not to mention that there is absolutely no point in rushing an author. You want a book that's ready, not one that's speedy.
Edit: Speaking of HP, Rowling should get started on a new series, either in the HP universe or something else. I don't want her first series to be her last, because she has a good imagination and ought to improve her technical skill.
Edit 2: I guess I'm lying a bit and I AM anxiously waiting for one thing: Berserk. But the problem with that series is that we basically get maybe 60 pages every year or so, so the story moves as a snails pace, so when it is updated, the tiny progress made isn't usually satisfactory, unlike how GRRM might take 5 years, but the result is usually us getting 1000 pages of content. But that's the only thing whose wait kills me inside, Berserk.
