The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword announced for Wii [N-CONF]

Not if you're left handed, it won't be flawless.

Between this and the 3DS having only one analogue stick (thus making left hand stylus + right hand analogue impossible), Nintendo has become exceptionally anti-left handed...
Why would it be impossible? Controls look hand agnostic.

In terms of looks, they nailed it down really good. Aside from the bad demonstration, it looks to be fun. But it seems more of the same Zelda we've played already. I'll wait for hands on reports from the people who've played it. But Zelda has grown extremely stale.

Man, I am happy they went with a hybridized Wind Waker artstyle. It looks great. I dunno how this looks like the same old Zelda. We've hardly seen any of the environments or how the game progresses, which is the part that has gone a bit stale. The new controls, when working properly, should make this the hardest Zelda yet due to the need to make precise sword swipes. Also bomb bowling ftw.

An entire first page of nothing but complaints that it's not Wind Waker and it's using the controls of the Wii console the way the last one did.

Oh, GAFers. Never change. Game looks great.

I'll be honest and I'll say that Zelda was probably one of the biggest disappointments of the conference. I kinda like the art style but I also think it looks significantly worse than Wind Waker.

The envirorment looked lifeless and with little scale. It kinda reminded me of the Minish Cap. The trailer also lacked anything remotely new and epic.
And then to top it all off the 2011 release date. :(

As usual, Nintendo has the best E3 conference, and Zelda is why (along with the new DKC!).

As usual? last years conference was a trainwreck with all the focus on casual oriented stuff.

The ugly and intrusive HUD is the only issue i have with what was shown (i had the same issue with TP). The visuals are pretty much exactly what i wanted and the controls are about what i was expecting. I'm excited to see more.

the visuals were basically exactly what I wanted.

when the beetle flew into the air and gave the wide-shot my jaw dropped. beautiful.

This + THEY FINALLY GAVE LINK COMFY LOOKING PANTS!
+(plus the e3.nintendo.com remark about pulling all the items from his pockets :lol)

I still cant grasp that they actually went the perfect route when it comes to graphics

the less "cutesy" link ( dont get me wrong I loved it ) models of WW while retaining the colorful art combined with the more "grown up" link model.

TIGHT!

It looks different enough to me, and the backgrounds look far better than anything seen in the series before. The only thing that really makes it look "samey" is Link's running animation, which is the same from Twilight Princess. But I think the new art style, the environmental improvements and flourishes, and so on are enough for me.

All of the assets showed Link right handed.

Miyamoto played left handed.

Miyamoto even held the "real" sword in his right hand.

I'm fucked.
have faith. like first party nintendo ds games have always been lefty friendly. twilight princess was built for the gamecube and ported to the wii in a hurry, whichs probly why they didnt have time to make a lefty mode. its gonna be alright :)

Agrreing about the graphics - the environments have so much more color to them now. The new Link model is slightly cartoonier, but not drastically so.

To the complainers about Zelda growing stale - what the hell should Zelda be doing? You know that the second they go away from the traditional gameplay, you'll whine about that the way you whine about them not letting you use a "traditional" controller.

It looks ok but I can't say I'm psyched. The graphical upgrade looks good but ultimately the gameworld and concept of the game looks very worn out and not particularly new or interesting. It's more like TP 1.5.

Yeah, you're right. Companies should never try to innovate or grow their franchises because some people might whine about it.

Eh?
You're going to judge the game based on the demo area?
No, but I'm free to say how disappointed I am with the showing and how super early in development the game appears to be. I'm sure it'll be good by release, but as a long-time Zelda fan they're not giving me anything new to get excited about except for the control scheme (which we all expected). This is no redesign of Zelda (from what we've seen), it looks more generic than TP.

And while the graphics style chosen has promise (PoP 2008 etc), the current look of the world is terribly low rent. Again Dreamworks movie-game level. Still, it's early days obviously, but that it's so early is disappointing.

Seriously? What part of that demo/trailer looked anything like Twilight Princess?

What the fuck were people expecting? :lol

game's gonna be great.

actually interestingly enough, the controls are the one thing I'm not worried about at all. Nintendo always gets those right.

Anybody that seriously expects that Zelda will have flunked controls are over reacting as usual. This was a bad showing but nothing more than a stage demo gone wrong, nothing more. Nintendo are masters at tightening up controls on their franchises, New Super Mario Bros, Galaxy, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding etc, the list goes on and on.

Even the sword fighting in Wii Sports Resort is superb. Minus the calibration here and there it works brilliantly.

It's not about the gameplay for me though. I wanted to see a new look, a new environment. A re-imagining of sorts like the jump from Super Mario Sunshine to Super Mario Galaxy. Of course we haven't even seen a fraction of the game, but judging off the presentation alone, it doesn't look to be that much of a jump from Twilight Princess honestly.

crap, I didn't thought about the analog in the 3DS D:, I'm going to cry now.

People were feeding way too much into the theories and speculations surrounding the picture revealed at last E3 :lol .

So I think it's pretty obvious by now that some sort of flying is going to be the method of transportation.
Thinking the same thing.
Notice the tail on the bird in the logo? I don't think that was there before ;)

That HUD! My eyes!

Whomever it is at Nintendo that thinks it's a good idea to put the entire controller on the screen like that needs to take a look at every single other Action Adventure game on the market. People are still be able to figure out how to play games without giant eyesores constantly reminding them what to press or do.

Just there for DEMO purposes. Though I REALLY do hope they do away with the fisher-price Font, scrap the kiddy-looking HUD

If you look at the (720p) screenshots over at IGN etc, it isn't a true Cel-Shaded style, it is actually like a Painting, Especially looking at the sky!!!

Art Style: Decode doesn't have a left handed mode and it's a book style DS game. This is ironic because Pictobits, a regular orientated DS game has a left handed mode when it doesn't need it.

Right only Link (so far) and only one nub on 3DS are a big piss-offs.

I have no idea why people are thinking that this will be exactly like Twilight Princess. Yes, there is a possibility that there might be, but the only thing you have to back up that assertion is the Link model, and...that's pretty fucking much it.

I missed this portion of E3 and I'm glad I did. Zelda's my favorite franchise and I'm really sad it got such a bad display. I know the game itself will be good but I'm sad the game hiccuped at such a bad time.

I hope to see some better gameplay footage soon from sites. Anyway the artstyle sure is pretty.

I couldn't watch the conference but anyway... how in the hell are people believing nintendo will release the new Zelda with a broken control scheme? I mean, seriously... if the thing was unresponsive on stage (from what I've heard) it was obviously because of interference, not because the controls don't work.
And if your concern is because "WAH WAGGLE BULLSHIT" then GTFO, the Wii is motion-control based, get used to it.

In other words, LET'S EXPECT OTHER GAMEPLAY VIDEOS AND/OR PLAY IT OURSELVES TO PASS JUDGEMENT ON IT, MMMKAY?

/rant

shit, are you guys watching e3nintendo? an asian guy said its like twilight princess X50, maybe i should change my username to skyward!!! also they're saying the controls work very well.

Aonuma mentioned on the e3.nintendo site that the skies played a really big role in the game. I hope that means a flying mount this time around. :D

EDIT: Holy FUCK the screens look great. The colour of Wind Waker with the proportions of Twilight Princess. God this game is going to be so fucking great.

Gorgeous, gorgeous graphics! Damn.

I'm hyped again. Fuck the presentation, everyone else is saying it plays flawlessly.

I also really dig the idea of charging the sword by holding it up towards the sky. Can't wait for more story details on the game.

Did you miss the trailers? Or do you really think fighting moblins in a lava stage inside a mountain is something fresh and new? The only new thing we saw at all was the beetle, and it seems to function like a glorified boomerang. Everything they showed was stuff we've seen before in the franchise.

The game looks GORGEOUS! I was so happy to see the mix between cel-shaded and realistic. Very refreshing.

My immediate thought was: This is "Zelda Galaxy" style visuals. Which is great.

The controls were obviously being messed up by the environment, which is a real shame but will obviously be fine in normal use.

Stuff that was just on E3.Nintendo.com:

They showed footage of people playing Zelda at the conference. The people playing it said the controls were "perfect" and "intuitive" and that it felt really fun to play.

I also saw footage of somebody playing left-handed. Not sure if there's an option to switch it but there was definitely somebody swinging the sword with their left hand.

I'm starting to wonder how you guys game at all. Only one dpad on the SNES controller. Nintendo is completely anti-letfy!

What terrible discrimination!
