Though I should probably catch up on the 360 releases I haven't gotten yet... never did get Pink Sweets/Muchi (because it looks shitty)
Looks shitty? Definitely get it, one of the best releases CAVE has put out.

Pink Sweets/Muchi is great. Love PS' soundtrack too.
"package release" means retail game?
I mean, I will just because I'm a Cave whore and have all their other shit on the 360, so I might as well complete the collection... but the aesthetics are really a turn-off for me. I'm much more a fan of say... Ketsui's art-style and music.
Oh only one S, that explains why I couldn't find much on it searching earlier...Google kept insisting that I mistyped "Jessica" and threw in Jessica Alba and some porn stars into my results.Digital distribution service for arcades. Arcade ops set up a networked cab, and download games from a server. Sort of like XBLA, etc. It's run by Taito, and devs like SNK Playmore and G.Rev are on board.

Good idea.
This news just sucks.
I really hope RSG considers another Cave release. They'd probably want to go for something that only has a region-locked release. A Ketsui release would be a crowd pleaser, I bet. Or Mushihimesama. Playing Stage 3 on a TV would be awesome.
I hope they can pull through somehow, but I can't honestly imagine any factors getting better for them.
Why did Cave stop doing region-free releases, anyway? After Deathsmiles and the move to GoD for DS2, I can only imagine region-free retail releases being more profitable for them.
I would imagine it has something to do with the fact that it costs a company extra to release something that's region free. Such is the iron-clad resolve of Microsoft.
I've gone on rants before about how many of the "pro-consumer" choices MS made with the 360 were also "anti-niche publisher" (or to a more subtle degree, anti-innovation) with things like multi-region games, 50k minimum print runs and mandatory online elements.
This, simply, unfortunately, helps to prove my point. I'm not saying that 360 porting is everything to do with Cave seemingly going under, but it certainly doesn't help.
Yeah it's a very good point. CAVE would have had a much easier time getting their games overseas if publishers that picked them up didn't have to worry about high-water minimum print runs. Hell they might have even been able to set up shop and do it themselves.
In that sense the 360 was a honey pot for obscure Japanese developers: money hats and some promotion help brought them in, but region-locking and mandatory minimums guaranteed they could not make much forward progress in the overseas market despite the strong presence of the 360 in the west. While there was no way Steins Gate, Senko no Rondo etc. were going to be huge hits they probably could have made their money back on localizations and at least started something without such high print runs.
This issue is probably something MS is not conscious of us as well. They are the 500 pound gorilla sitting on these companies, blissfully unaware.
If nothing else, it makes me hope that there's some system next-gen that isn't quite so bullshit-prone. Microsoft's probably out, because they're retarded. Sony will probably have some sort of policy in place that'll make it impracticable to release anything remotely off-color. Nintendo... well, how draconian are their tactics with retail games? I know they fucking suck for eShop stuff, but maybe they're better with physical releases.
I dunno... it's just frustrating that platform holders put arbitrary policies in place that serve primarily to hinder those producing anything that's not mainstream. Because perhaps more than ever, that's the most interesting stuff coming out these days :-/
—By the way, the heroine Reco... she's not wearing anything down there, is she?
Ikeda: Nope.
—Really! That's part of the official canon?
Ikeda: Yes.
Asada: You mean when she can just go to the bathroom anywhere like that?!
Ikeda: How she uses the toilet isn't set in the official canon, but physically speaking, that's how it would be.
There's an interview on Famitsu with Ikeda and Asada that just went up where they go into info about Mushi 1.5 and SDOJ here:
http://www.famitsu.com/news/201205/17014608.html
Some details:
・Mushi 1.5 will be their last package release, and they are considering new platforms
・This was news to me: the Mushi Arrange in Mushihimesama HD is an "improved" version of the PS2 Arrange Mode. I had assumed it was the same thing, but this piques my interest.
・SDOJ was very well-received, but it will be their last arcade PCB. They are considering NESSiCA but have no plans at the moment.
・When asked what he will be working on in the future, Ikeda says that the company as a whole has to focus on games where players connect with each other, and he will be making games that are a little different than what he's previously made.
Fuck this. They really are dead huh.So glad they released almost their whole cataloque for the 360 before this happened, I'll be playing these games for years. Shitty news for shmup fans, this'll be pretty much death of the genre as we know it.
Hopefully Mushi HD gets localized.

Question, I'm going to go through my Cave shooter DLC codes tomorrow. So if I have a U.S. XBLA account can I download both the region free and region locked DLC on a American 360 or will I have to hook up my JPN 360 to download the DLC for region locked games?
No more package releases...
Looks like it's time to spring for PS2 Ibara...
Why would you download the DLC to a console that can't play the game?
You can download DLC to any console you like, so long as it is available on your gamertag's marketplace. From there, any gamertag's on that first console can use it, even when offline. The downloading gamertag can also use the DLC on any other console, but it must be connected to Live to do so.
I can't recall if Futari 1.01 is available in all marketplaces, but all other games will require you to use a Japanese gamertag.
Assuming there's not some subtle ironic element I'm missing here... how are any of these things pro-consumer?
Nintendo's eShop sounds like it's...actually ok now (well at least in Japan, I'm guessing rating and crap for other regions is still a bitch). Desperation has forced them to get with the times, I wouldn't necessarily rule them out.If nothing else, it makes me hope that there's some system next-gen that isn't quite so bullshit-prone. Not going to sum up everything, but at the very end of the UST broadcast, Asada mentioned that he has to go somewhere for an announcement soon and said something about a passport.
People were speculating about E3 in the chat.
Better hope Valve actually does enter the gaming console business.
Also for those interested, a translation of the recent Famitsu interview with Cave has been posted on Shmups.
No Espgaluda II faceplate? No more package releases...
Looks like it's time to spring for PS2 Ibara...
BTW, an ode to Cave and how I feel:
![]()
Mushihimesama HD can join next week as a single tear![]()
I miss mine. ;~;
![]()
goddamn theives.
oh snap,I love it, best faceplate design. Too bad it's in storage now cuz I'm using a Slim 360.
I prefer robots and spaceships, but muchi muchi's chunky anime ladies are pretty boss.
I have a thing for BBWs, anime and bullet-hell. No idea why the hell I don't have Muchi Muchi yet![]()
fuck that. i wish.
Because it's pricey. :-/
Well at least those not playable in MAME. Ibara and SOJ are probably the only games that can't be played without a PCB. (Not counting special versions.) Oh and there's the PS2 port of Ibara too.
I doubt it's gonna get any cheaper, I'd grab it while it's still available at a reasonable price.
I still wanna hope they wise up and finish what they started... with the following packs!
Esprade & Espgaluda
Donpachi & Dodonpachi
Dangun Feveron & Progear no Arashi
Ibara & Ibara Kuro
Big Cave time for everybody around the world with AKS releasing in multiple territories, Mushi in Japan, and Saidaioujou already in arcades. Hoping folks might take some time to list their top five Cave games (regardless of platform).
