Yay, there's actually some australian cricket going on now!

I expect australia to stomp zimbabwe, but it should still be fun to watch.

Such a funny moment. Mitch can hit a ball clean as whistle though. It's just that it's either that or he misses it completely.

Maxwell out in the 90s again. Played some ridiculous shots though. Fetched a full ball a feet or two outside of off-stump and hit it to the midwicket boundary. He can play some ridiculous shots for 4 or 6 but he's just as likely to play some ridiculous shot that inside edges past his stumps. Often with the same shot.

Shit, shit weather in England today. Very little chance of the first 50ovr game vs India going ahead IMO.

Yep. At best, they might end up with a T20 game...

The one day county tournament has its quarter finals starting tomorrow, I wonder if they will be hit as well although I think I saw the weather was supposed to improve slightly tomorrow I don't know if that will equate to getting 100 overs in

Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Jame Faulkner vs Nathan Lyon and Kane Williamson.

First time that I've seen left armers outnumber the right handers.

Kane Williamson is a right arm bowler, and a pretty decent batsman, for NZ, hehe.

Richardson is good, but what does Hughes have to do to get a run in the ODI team? He obviously isnt a part of the world cup plans, hence why they wanted to play marsh ahead of him, but why not have the cajones to tell him that rather than take him on Tour?

Goddamn at all these Kanes with surnames ending with son. :p

Yeah I dunno what they're going to do with Hughes. Mitchell Marsh did well but then again it is against zimbabwe. Don't think haddin should open though.

You're a big guy.
This quote from Swann about England's ODI planning is... something else.

"I remember sitting in a team meeting - before the new fielding restrictions were brought in - and we were told that if we scored 239 we will win 72% of games. That meant the whole game was built on having so many runs by a certain stage and having so many partnerships. I used to shake my head, thinking 'this is crazy'. I remember Jonathan Trott getting close to a hundred in Colombo. We had batted to our plan almost perfectly and scored 229. Trotty got 86 in 115 balls. Everyone said "brilliant", then Sri Lanka knocked them off in 39.3 overs."

Explains so much.

Oh man I was hoping for replays of this. Ridiculously over-the-top fielding to save 4 only for the batsmen to run 4. :lol

Not a good start from India in the odi.

Fletcher and dhoni both to get the boot if they lose this series I think, dhonis talking and Ravi coming in seems to suggest that.

Yeah australia really should have picked lyon. Though I thought that they should have bowled maxwell if they want a part-time spinner.

Seriously though, our batting depth is so ridiculous that we can surely afford one more actual bowler, and not an all-rounder?

Good match between Australia and SA, nice chase by the latter too.

Pretty poor performance from England in their ODI so far though.

England really should just compartmentalise their Test and ODI teams. They have been pants. Get some proper specialists in there for limited overs games.

Really awful performance.

Seems strange to have some of these players in the team. It doesn't feel like a specialised ODI squad, just a random mix of players. Watching Cook open was really bizarre, for example, his run rate doesn't seem anywhere near good enough to be in that position. Hales will be a good addition though, hopefully more specialist players like him will be introduced in the future.

Yeah, I guess they figured Tredwell was a better choice than Moeen. Speaking of Tredwell, an entertaining last couple of overs from him. Surprised that Anderson's reception was a chorus of boos though, must be a lot more Indian fans there than I thought.

Goddamn the cricket countries really need to come together for a reform on ODI uniforms.

Why are both england and india the same shade of blue?

Huh, I'm surprised moeen isn't featured in the england ODI side. Didn't he do pretty well in the west indies?

I think they're attempting to develop a side for the world cup. Tredwell tends to be very economical which unless you've got a good mystery spinner is about all you can hope for in your spinner in Australian/NZ ODI conditions. Ali will be about the squad as the second spinner with Root the part timer.

Hmm, guess that's true. I suppose england like australia won't go with a 2 spin option, though my opinion is that spin is super valuable in LO. Just look at what happened to australia vs south africa. No main spinner (it was a total road, but still) and the bowlers put exactly zero pressure on the SA batsmen.

edit: man, finn's action has a pretty big kink in it, kinda like junaid khan. Though I think the straightening looks like it happens before it reaches shoulder height?

Nice to see Finn get a wicket but he's bowled pretty averagely at best here. His run up still looks just off, really artificial.

I don't know, that looks like he's straightening the arm a fair bit there.

I guess that depends on whether he did it before or after the ball reaches above shoulder height.

It's probably just below, but it's JUST below. Don't get me wrong I think if you slow down most fast bowlers action they'll look suspect. That's why I always laugh when folk talk about the spinners, the main difference is their arms move slower so you can pick it up without the slo mo

Looks like they're choosing mitch marsh over steve smith for the ODI side.

Still think that steve smith should be given an honest go higher up the order in the ODI side.

edit: see, if steve smith was in the side than at least we would have another batsmen who actually knows how to play spin. :p

I had no idea that 1983 was the last time Zimbabwe beat Australia in an ODI, crazy stuff.

Great game to watch though, pretty tense towards the end. Even as a neutral observer it's nice to see, a good boost for the Zimbabwe team.

As an australian supporter it was painful, but I can't begrudge the zimbawean team. Well played and well fought.

It will be interesting to see how the australian team goes from here though in terms of preparing for the world cup. It's very clear that it's not a settled side, with a few key personnel missing and several positions still in flux

Whenever that Graeme Swann betting advert appears, it's hard not to cringe. :p

Anyway, Australia doing well so far. That Mitch Marsh innings was amazing.

I don't know what it is about Faf that australia just can't figure out.

edit: haha, holy shit, I think that might be the first I saw someone step on their stumps in an international game.

Awful way for Faf to get out, haha. Nice innings by him, seemed solid as a rock. Australia should easily take it now though.

The WC is going to be torture for England fans unless they massively improve, dreadful ODI from them. Cook's going to be blasted by critics, especially if India pull off a 9 or 10 wicket win here.

Antiwhippy

the holder of the trombone
Good win, but other than Faf nobody in SA really showed up. I still think australia has some bowling selections to work out.

Also yeah, england seems like they need a major overhaul.

God damn, this is fucking shit from England.

Playing too many of the test team imo. I have no problem with Cook being test captain I'm all for it but for ODIs perhaps he needs to step down.

Theres plenty of talent in the 1 day game in England and we need to be utilising a lot more of that talent in ODIs.

To call this a mauling isn't doing it justice, its just the wrong team as good as India have been.

Seriously, was the pitch a minefield in the 1st innings and then flattened into an absolute belter in the 2nd? The discrepancy between the two innings is incredible.
