The Nostalgia Critic |OT| He Remembers It So You Don't Have To

to be fair konami has a lot of licensed games, in fact I'm disappointed they didn't have MORE of those

imagine Extreme Dinosaurs arcade, would play the shit out of it

Having been watching some of the older stuff.....man things were better when Doug did the videos mostly starring just himself. Malcolm and Tamara seem to be a hindrance rather than a help most of the time.

I actually think they're fine, and the real problem is that he's doing newer stuff that he has no real attachment to, and as a result things are just kind of "meh".

Before the skits: "This part of the movie is so absurd: if you're going to do that, why not [humorous hypothetical scenario]?"

Now: "This part of the movie is so absurd: if you're going to do that, why not [humorous hypothetical scenario]?"
[insert protracted, poorly shot and acted skit that illustrates said scenario]

Plus, of course, annoyingly long intro and outro skits.
And the overall length of the review? More or less the same as before.

I imagine Walker felt a bit shitty for the actors over the cancellation of Demo Reel, but really... As if the Channel Awesome crossovers and "storylines" they had before that weren't bad enough already. I don't care about all that shit, focus on the movie.

There is also nothing quotable anymore. Where are the running gags like "of course" or the bigblipped alligator moment? :(
Frankly, I could do without most of those... They always seem fairly forced to me (yeah, yeah, "I was frozen today"... that should get funny eventually, keep it up!).

They gave the show some kind of identity and I liked them very much. What we now have is just gulasch.

I've been ok with his current format. He'll never go back to classic NC which I want. But I much prefer the quick skits spliced within rather than long ones. The Face/Off review was like the perfect
combination.

I do like Rob's "I'm a dinosaur" bits, they're kept just occasional enough for it to feel fresh and funny.

I can understand him not going back to the classic format, I think Doug was getting a little tired of it and was worried about it getting samey, though I do hope we maybe get a classic episode now and again.

I don't mind the crossover reviews, The Three Schmucks in particular, but I absolutely can't stand the giant crossover anniversary things. Every single one I just hated. Forcing in 'plots' like that is what put me off Atop the 4th Wall. Linkara, you're a good reviewer and a funny guy, but an actor you ain't.

I was reading the Spoony thread over in Gaming last night, and from what I hear he's completely lost his way. No more video games, no more old shitty movies, just wrestling and old stories about tabletop gaming.
He also did a THREE HOUR vlog on Age of Ultron. Rule of thumb, if your review is longer than the movie itself, and it's not tightly edited like a Mr. Plinkett review, stop and reconsider what you're doing.

Then I look at Doug and notice that he still retains the same spirit of what he's done for years. Sure, he's had bad ideas, but he's still the Nostalgia Critic. Even if the sketches aren't everyone's cup of tea, the Critic is still there.

Yeah I miss the old Spoony stuff. It's almost like he's just lost his interest in computer games. Maybe he'll switch back in future, or maybe he just thought the market was getting too crowded and wanted a change. Can't say I've ever watched his vlog stuff, only the old reviews.

What was the shitstorm that happened with him breaking off a few years ago anyway? I never really read much into it, just heard that some huge stuff happened then started getting deleted all over the place.

i don't know. i'm not a big fan of jokes that come about because of repetition, since i start to wonder if it's the repetition i'm noticing or the attempt at humor.

the only joke that worked well anywhere anytime was the 'timing!' thing from casper, using the same clip of doug and casper every time.

Before the skits: "This part of the movie is so absurd: if you're going to do that, why not [humorous hypothetical scenario]?"

doug is not a concise guy. even with these, he'd run on for a while about what he thought was wrong.

*weird scene plays*
'man that was creepy. i mean what were they thinking? it's just so weird! in fact, change it out with this music and see if you can tell a difference.'
*weird scene plays with creepy music*
'see? creepy, right?'

a more confident comedian would just have the scene play with the creepy music and not address it. just let it stand on its own as a joke and move on.

Real Thoughts on Quest for Camelot

The channel also has Real Thoughts on the first two Sonic cartoons (Adventures and SatAM) and Last Action Hero.

Rob & Doug: Has anyone else ever put two cartoons in the same franchise on the air at the same time, and one is kiddy while the other is dark?

- Hasbro did it recently with Transformers Rescue Bots and Transformers Prime.

One thing I've noticed with these Real Thoughts videos is that Doug seems to interrupt the flow of the conversation abruptly to end the video, while Rob just smiles and takes it. Apparently Doug's finished talking, but was Rob? It seems a bit unnatural. And then I realized that Doug's not being a dick, they rehearsed to some degree before turning on the camera, and Doug already knows that Rob's finished talking. It kind of breaks the illusion. Doug needs to find a better way of wrapping up the conversation that includes Rob a bit more.

Yeeessssss, I seriously disliked that movie, & it didn't help I had a younger sister that would sometimes watch it.

I don't know about that particular film, but the fourth Spy Kids movie was honestly one of the worst films that I've voluntarily seen.

I'd maintain that the first movie is still the best, but I'd have to refresh my mind on 2 and 3 to be conclusive on that.

I just completely remembered there was a 4th Spy Kids. Took me a while to remember I didn't see it because the 3rd was just so stupid.

Wasn't it based on the kids of the previous characters & there was some kind of dog as well?

Spy Kids 4 had new kids. But the old ones were still around

Also, that realization that the Machete movies are canon with the Spy Kids movies. Seriously.

Sharkboy and Lavagirl is just a separate thing from what I can tell.

Honestly, NC has been a roll lately with his reviews. Glad it's going back to being more wild, loud and being more clever. I felt he had a year stretch of when he got back into doing NC, that it almost felt... forced? Because had to do it instead of liking it? I dunno... something like that.

Gotta say NC has been on a roll as of late. Really liking how these last few reviews have been very familiar to his old style.

I might just have to check out some of his newer stuff. I've been watching Doug's content since around 2008, but I've fallen way behind in his videos over the last year and a half since I didn't really enjoy the format after the revival.

Yeah with the revival more than a few are in the newer format with heavy skits. But even then there was more than a few and lately that have been in the new style. I'd give them a watch still to catch up. You'll know pretty early which are which.

WTF. Still no Sharkboy and lavagirl on youtube. One episode in awhile that I've been somewhat interested in watching and it's still not uploaded.

Blip sucks. No html5.

Was rewatching the Sharkboy & Lavagirl review again to pass the time & is it just me, or did the scene about Lopez's character commenting on Mr. Electric get cut from the video? I can't seem to find it now.

Small Wonder was one of my favorite shows back then.

Edit: Also, for the last fucking time, Cavemen was awesome and I am still pissed it never got a DVD release at least. And three unaired episodes.
