The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

I'm working on Textropolis. Still haven't used a hint in-game or looked for a list online, but I'm also only at about 20% done for the entire game. It's gonna be tough, some words I come across by just trying random combinations. I guess that's cool to learn new words, but still.

I've been enjoying Yipe! 5 today. It's on sale for 0.99 and is a pretty fun RPG at that price. Lite version is also available:

It's a great game - easy on the eyes, sounds pleasant enough (does it support iPod streaming?), good monster variety, good gameplay mechanic and moves along at a nice clip. You do need to grind for money/potion/equipment but it's no big deal and is quite fun. I would like a map though. It's the one thing I miss.

Didn't see it mentioned... but I just noticed
Maestro! Green Groove was released a few weeks ago. Pretty fun game for $1

I imported the DS Maestro! game from Europe and if changes haven't been made, I just can't see it working without a stylus when you get to the other worlds. Green Groove might be okay because it's not nearly as intense.

love the game but yeah that is seriously the most optimistic use of the "best enjoyed with headphones" screen ever

To be fair, apart from the music the game sounds fantastic with headphones, it really gives off a 'surround sound' effect.

need some help remembering an app

co-op talked about a game a few months back that was like geowars for the iphone..but i can't remember the name of the game and searches have returned nothing..I'm pretty sure its not antimatter or Occurro...help would be much appreciated

Main one I remember being mentioned is Isotope, but there was also geoFighter...and I'm sure a whole bunch of others. Another one (albeit less Geometry Wars like) is PewPew.

I've just played it, and I couldn't pass the second level because it was so fast, and my finger was too big. Bit of a waste of money there; game looks wonderful, but maybe could do with being a bit kinder than the DS version was.

i agree on maestro, controls kinda suck and the lowend graphics are stupid too :( 99 Cent wasted :/ But hey i got the creeps for free at least …

GT Racing has a lite out now, also Zenonia 2 is being processed currently so it will be out tonight in your region.

I see no dpad in those screens, is it now fully controlled in a more touchscreen friendly way? I hate all dpad games.
It's Dpad movement still but you can move and adjust the layout, probably disabled for those screens.

Any baseball fans out there, the new official MLB World Series 2010 game is out. The only idevice baseball game with officIal teams, players AND stadiums. I'm downloading now...

You guys absolutely got to help me, just a little bit if got got a minute.

I sold my first generation iPhone some years ago and haven't had an iPhone since. I'm preparing to buy the next iPhone this year and thus, I am adding applications and games to my iTunes wishlist. Price or free doesn't matter, which games and applications are the must?

So far I added these:

GAMES
The Sims 3
Sim City
Tetris
Real Racing
GT Racing
Plants vs Zombies
Modern Combat
GTA: Chinatown Wars
Zenonia

APPLICATIONS
Facebook

In the meantime I'll read through this thread again, even though there's a lot of pages.

Read through the thread, as you say - there are far too many games now to ask for general 'What should I get?' advice, really, and this thread is full of recommendations - but I've deleted ones you shouldn't bother with, either because they're not great or there are better version - sequels, whatever - coming out very soon indeed.

I'd like to give some love to (the poorly named) QRANK.

Qrank1-154x228.jpg
Qrank3-154x228.jpg
Qrank5-154x228.jpg

It's a social quiz game - 20 questions a day, of which you play 15. The questions can be extremely current (the ones marked with a leaf are "fresh", as in the past day headlines), they're well written, and it's a fun "daily ritual", as they put it. First quiz game that's really "clicked" for me,

It lets you see how you're doing against your friends as you go. Friends list is unfortunately it's own network, but you can link it to Facebook to pull friends from there.

Also, the price tag is right: it's free.

Go get it. If you want to add me as a friend (since you have to search by email) I'm remydwd at google's email service.

That list is missing Canabalt and therefore should be ignored.

NO YOU!

It's on my wish list. Which gives me an excuse to post some from my wish list:

Canabalt
Castle Fantasy
Jet Car Stunts
Air Video
Hit N'Run
Boom Brigade
Zogma
Pocket Informant
Pool Ninja
Pastebot
SimCity
Anno - The Harbor
I Dig It Expeditions

Meteor Blitz
OMG Pirates!
Inotia 2
The Deep
Orions: Legend of Wizards
Sword of Fargoal
Dark Shrine
Train Conductor
Zombie Smash

Thanks for the recommendations, really appreciate it! =)
I hope there's some nice strategy games (without too much war going on) as well, now that Sims 3 and Sim City apparently aren't worth it.

Oh btw, I bought Tetris a long time ago. Now I'm looking to add it again, can I just click 'Buy' - there's no 're-download' - in the App Store and it won't charge me? (as I bought it months ago)

I really enjoy The Settlers. Also check out Civ Rev; it's not on my store, alas. Robocalypse is a decent RTS too.

Click on Store > Check for available downloads. If you've signed on with the right ID, your bought content should automatically list, ready for download.

I wouldn't consider there to be any clear "musts" cause those are subjective as hell.
Here's a list for a starting point: http://hippotrouble.com/iphonedb/games/

As far as apps there's also the apps tab there...but nothing there except a few I added on. Go ahead and add stuff if you'd like.

I'd buy that for the shooter. Hot blonde gun-wielding pirate chick, SOLD.
I wonder if the game is as choppy as the first one was... probably will try a demo first..

I can't be the _only_ person excited about this:

Exclusive: Two New 'Warpgate' Trailers Released

Gameplay video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwr-DQNcA9c&feature=player_embedded

Warpgate is a space conquest game with tons of ships to pilot, factions to fight with, planets to take over, and a string of missions that expand the plot of the game which are supplemented by randomly generated missions that players can accept and complete as many times as they want to always have something to do.
