The Official Jeanne D'arc Thread - SRPG goodness from Level5 for 29.99$

Yeah, same here. I usually don't play SRPGs very often, but I picked up Jeanne d'Arc on a whim. It's wicked awesome so far (about to enter Nancy). I love the art style.

Was a huge FFT fan, picked this up to play on the train. It's awesome so far. Should i be leveling up early?

I've done fine without really doing more than a couple of the extra levels. It seems like the kind of game that doesn't punish you if you don't like leveling and rewards you if you do.

This game is great. Difficulty level is just good, sometimes you really have to find a good way to beat a level, gameplay is addictive, I just love it.

Earlier today I stumbled across this.

Apparently Gilles de Rais wasn't exactly the saintly noble he's portrayed as in the game.

Um. Have you actually completed the game? Because the ending actually preshadows this very neatly.

I haven't, actually. Now I'm a little unsettled as to how they foreshadow this while still remaining a *looks at box* T-rated game :lol

How long is this game? I'm like, 9 hours of play time already and I'm still in Chapter 2, half way through Tourelles-whatever

30 hours for me.

Did you grind a lot? I think I'm on Chapter 4 and about 22-23 hours in, but I played several of the Free Combat areas to level up my team (I was getting my ass kicked A LOT).

I did optional maps and grinded before the final fights so the final boss was easy to kill. I played it from the memory stick at 333Mhz so it might have made the combats faster (the enemy's turns are too long).

How do you unlock the faster processor speed? I'm new at this PSP thing.

Also, are there secret characters and the like in this game? I'm playing it rather casually so I haven't been making sure I'm not missing any secrets.

I like this game, more so than I thought I would - but I don't understand the adoration a lot of people have for it? Why is it so great to ya'll?

I haven't played many SRPGs besides this one but I like the battle system. There are a lot of ways to approach each battle and I just find it really interesting over all with things like the burning aura, transformations, the ability to get new gem stones... I think the story is stupid and personally not too amped up about the character designs either. The game play is the main reason I love the game. Graphics are good too of course.

agreed, i like the battle system with the unified guard and all that stuff.

Finished this a couple days ago and enjoyed it. Only major complaint is that no one ever gets defeated in this game lol. I swear you beat a guy one stage and he comes back the next, beat him again and he comes back again, rinse repeat. It got laughable after awhile.

The other minor complaint i have is that there's no replay value to it. I know about the
colosseum + cemetery thing and will do that eventually (it starts getting really rough around stage 5 for me heh)
. I may also go back and choose the other path giving me the other character (
i ended up with the mage char
) but other than those 2 things i can't think of any other reason to pick it up again.

Oh and on Liane,
don't see how you guys could have been so attached to her by the time she went up in smoke. She'd turned into such a bitch that i was just glad that i didn't lose any equipment when she bit the dust heh.

I love the production values -- every last detail is so incredibly polished. Typical Level-5, really. The music is excellent, too, IMO.

Gameplay it's probably one of the more well-balanced SRPGs I've played. Overall it's probably my second favorite behind FFT. (Tactics Ogre is the one I respect the most, but FFT is the one I enjoyed the most.)

About done with the game at this point, but even though I have figured out most of the plot twists before they happen I didn't see it coming that
the frog was Henry VI

We think alike there. It kind of makes me sad thinking about how Level 5 is so busy with Inazuma 11 and the Layton games, that they may not make another PSP game for a while, if ever :(

Holy balls, I can't believe what just happened. In the battle where you first meet
Richard
and have to fight
Slinker
, I managed to beat every enemy on the map (because the boss on that level is such a little cowardly bitch), but I finished him off on the final move of the final turn. When he was the only one left, he was always one square out of range of Jeanne's attacks, so I ground him down with spells and elemental items.

INTENSE.

I've had a couple of battles like that, where it went right down to the wire. In my case, once or twice I took an early beating and was pretty positive there was no way I could win, but reallllly careful planning and a bit of luck led to me coming back and pulling through on the final move of the final turn. It was such a rush. :)

Before the last mission I was level 99 for everyone.

I just got through a fight just like this. This is what makes this such a great tactic game. On more than one occasion I've been able to imagine my character running down a corridor in slow motion, letting arrows fly in the hope that they'll survive the skirmish. There's something about the staging of these fights that makes it feel really special.

I haven't really ever played a Final Fantasy Tactics game, but that new one had better be really hot freaking shit, because this game has really impressed me.

I've just read the Eurogamer review and in the second to last paragraph they said last week Sony ditched a European release WHAT THE SHIT!?

Cockassbitches.

It's bad enough I wait ages for releases but cancelling this shit is not on, bunch of fucking clowns I hope Rosy O'donnel sings them the American national anthem to those twats.

Now I HAVE to go import, bunch of tossers.

I'm still pretty early on in the game
heading to Paris right now
I think, but man the ax-users in my party are so crappy. La Hire has so little mobility that he often gets left behind in maps and barely gets a chance to hit anyone because his accuracy is so low. I've been using all sorts of accuracy enhancing fruits on him, but he's still pretty bad. He has the highest HP of anyone, so he works well as a tank, but that's abou tit. Is it worth leveling up an ax character at all?

Also, I'm kind of pissed about how some party members just leave. I spend so much time leveling them up, and then they're like, "Frack you, I have better things to do" and leave.

Other than that, I don't regret buying a PSP for this one bit.

I have really only had it once it was the battle against blaze and the girl with the claws (I can't remember her name) you fight on the way to
unsuccessfully save Laine
(I think) I had one try left and there was only a 66% chance of lading the move. It was awesome.

I hated those axe characters, but ended up not minding them. Basically, you need to combine a few accuracy skills in order to get Accuracy +10 or so, and then they become acceptable. In terms of the mobility, there are skills you can make that will give them better mobility too. Accuracy and Mobility are must-have's for your furry friends, and after you get them, they become pretty powerful.

Damn, I love this game!

The Axe Wielders are slow starters but once they get going they are nasty. Just give them mobility+2 if they're lumbering around. Example: Everybody else in the party hits mob for 0 to 20, the axe guy busts loose with a 200+ crit.

Their large HP pool makes HP Regen III even better.

What's up with that free battle on the Praire!

I just unlocked it and give it a whirl; effin 800 HP Dragons?! heeeeell no, haha

edit: Theres no way I'm going to beat this game, especially in time for FFT :lol
Maybe I'm just going super slow, but im like 9.45 hours into and I JUST got to Chapter 3?
Does that sound about right, is this like a 60 hour game?! haha

I have 1-2 missions left and I have probably put in 30 doing all the side quests and stuff.

The dragons aren't as hard as you think, they take damage for every square they occupy

Lol, I decided to "level up" my characters on that free battle too, not checking the HP on the dragons. I saw the other enemies who had around 200hp and thought, "easy schmeezy" and then BAM, this dragon comes along.

I haven't read anything previously posted in this thread and I'm only a few hours into the game, but I'd just like to ask why they decided that in a game set in France, with French characters, who speak with French accents in the cut scenes, that they should give just one character a French accent in text dialog and make it really stereotypical?

Ok im at the last bit.. i think.. why does the game have to be so easy and then up the difficulty by five fold here?

Im against the the reaper with the 4 pillars of evilness, Jeanne is lvl 67 while everyone is high 50s-low 60s, i can just about kill one of the pillars (one of them doing the attacks anyways), before too many dark demons come and crush us. I tried concentrating my attack on the reaper but the attacking towers just do too much damage for me. The healing towers aren't helping things either.

Anyways, i got the boss down to 300 HP before, so i will beat it eventually, but still quite a hard stage after the game has been so easy

I ignored the pillars. Use area skills on Gilvaroth. Sweep will rock his world, as will Cyclone II etc.

:lol, I was wondering about this mystical Revive skill the game pointed out near the start of the game. That should come in handy. Thanks for the tip!

Revivify??

I just realized I beat the entire game without a raise spell. I think maybe it had to do with needing Healing Wind II too badly to sacrifice it.

I just beat the Altois Prairie free battle (multi-square spells and impale are your friend). My god are the reward items worth it. SO worth it.

Man, this is such a quality title. So well polished and thought out. Everything is well explained and very accessible and easy to use. I haven't even looked at the manual for anything. I like how you actually have to use strategy when using your
transformations
as in, which part of the battle to use it in. I've always had at least two epic battles where only Jeanne and the strongest enemy were left standing with low life and it became a battle where whoever got in a guard/dodge would be the winner. Great game.

well,i just got to chap 3 and im at 9:51 so i guess its normal

Question: Do I have to level up my entire party equally? Or can I just concentrate on those that I like? Or are there battles from chap3 and beyond that require you to have certain characters besides jeanne for a battle?

So... what levels for the main team are recommended during the end game? Is Jeanne's 85 going to balance the fact that the rest of my guys are 55 or below? Was Tiamat's defense actually stronger than Gilvaroth's?

I've been concentrating on a main team that I like and leaving the other people at low levels. It gets annoying when someone on my main team goes away.

Nope, I beat it right before I entered Reims. Jeane was level 34, and the rest were around level 32 or so. You'll want to have Blizzard and Flame/Cyclone equipped on someone. The golems go down very easy, but it's essential for the dragons. Also, if you use Jean or Gilles, make sure you equip them with Sweep and Impale, otherwise you'll be screwed. Same as the spells, they hit multiple squares.
