The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

I want to get this game, right now I only can play it on the 360 as my home comp is quite old.

Will this game do better than the TF2 community from the Orange Box on live? I liked that game but finding games was like walking through a desert looking for water.

what? there are tons of games to be found. I play this on a regular basis and never ever found myself searching for a server.
 
This is the first game where I'm getting both the 360 and PC versions. I wasn't expecting much but the demo was beyond addicting and fun.

To be fair, I haven't played the orange box on the 360 in about 5 months, maybe the community has picked up since the release? I just remember, beating the HL episodes, Portal and then trying my hand at TF2 only to see very few people playing, unless you had dedicated clan/friends lists to do so.

And yes, Zeliard is right. The gunplay and feel of the weapons takes a page from CS:S, but with much better hit/death animations. The end result is something that makes the firefights in HL2 look even that much more tame/bland.

Pretty sure most of the gun sounds are lifted directly from CSS.
 
Here's my question I've submitted to Valve about my Steam not working properly.

I am having problems getting Steam to launch from my desktop. I initially tried to launch Steam and noticed that my mouse would have a spinning icon as if Steam were about to launch for a split second before going back to its original pointer. I checked my task manager and noticed that Steam was running but the Steam dashboard would never pop up. I ended the Steam process in the task manager and tried to restart it and again it would load for a split second before doing nothing. I deleted Steam from my computer and reinstalled it and it would load an update and once it reaches 99% it would halt and then disappear from my desktop. It would continue to run in the background and I would need to stop the process through the task manager. I played through Steam yesterday with the Left 4 Dead demo.

How can I get Steam to load properly?

I don't understand what happened yesterday to today. I didn't install or download anything in the time frame. Has anyone ever experienced this before?
 
This game cheated me out of achievements!

I won Dead Air with everyone surviving, and I didn't get the completion of Dead Air one or the No One Left Behind, but everyone else did.

:(
 
Yeah the M4 is ripped straight out of CS, which is why I do so well with it probably. :D

Just finished up the Death Toll campaign. So awesome indeed. So richly detailed and atmospheric. Like Ravenholm x10

I finished No Mercy yesterday, didn't get an achievement. Judging by the wording on the achievements ("survive" x campaign), you have to complete it without dying.

I'm not sure if I died, but maybe. Regardless, why didn't I get the No One Left Behind if everyone else got it?

My god... No mecry spoilers....
Me and my team made it to the end of no mercy level. It was so insanely hard on advance that we had to turn it down to normal. There was tanks, hunters and zombies everywhere. The bad thing is they can come from all sides. This was the 360 version also. The ending with the movie credits was great though. "3,654 Zombies was harmed in the making of this movie" :lol
 
Where are all the cinemas this game was supposed to have? We've all seen the intro one, I thought there was like 40+ minutes of it. I want to see em.

Uh, no one said there would be any. As a matter a fact, the opening was confirmed to be the only one long ago.

No, I remember that being stated somewhere, granted, the ESRB section doesn't have what I'm looking for, as you can see here:

Left 4 Dead is a first-person shooter in which players cooperate with other players in order to survive a zombie apocalypse. Players use an assortment of handguns, rifles, shotguns, Molotov cocktails and grenades to kill waves of 'infected' zombies who attack in extreme 'melee' fashion (e.g., close-quartered, hand-to-hand combat with frenetic movements and loud, shrill screams). Enemies' heads and limbs are frequently blown off, while streaks of red blood are splattered on walls and floors. The main characters uses some profanity (e.g., "sh*t," and "goddamn") during gameplay.

but he's not just making stuff up. I can't remember where, but I remember some speculation going on about it when people saw that.
 
The AI Director is mean. I just played a game on No Mercy on Advanced and we all died at the helicopter part at the end because we were bombarded non-stop by hordes, and health supplies inevitably ran out. It sent out far more zombies at us in that section than in any of my previous games.

Honestly, if you want a single player game, L4D is not for you. Because when something amazing happens, you'll have no one to laugh with.
 
I think there might be a dead rising reference in this game, what was the insane number of zombies killed that got you an achievement in dead rising?

oh and on the subject of cutscenes: Apparently one of the directors commentry nodes mentions that they were originally going to do cutscenes for each movie, but decided against it in the end.
 
I should be playing this now, but Verizon canceled my Saturday appointment to install FIOS and made me reschedule to Thursday. >:| So I'm on my cell phone tethering plan, which has a 5gb monthly cap...so I can't even download the game and play some SP.

Yup, the L4D achievement is one more than the Dead Rising one.

Delete clientregistry.blob in the steam folder and then restart Steam.
That has fixed both problems i have ever had with Steam in the 4 or so years it's been running.

I think you are thinking of the "40 minutes of footage submitted to the ESRB" thing that was doing the rounds. Some bloggers thought this meant cut scenes rather than what it actually mean which was 40mins of gameplay footage showing the most explicit moments in the game.
