You can increase the chances of certain characters popping up through materia. Using Cissnei's materia helps ensure that the DMW is always running above normal status.

Just finished the game. I loved it.

The ending sequence from after Genesis' boss battle and onwards was so well done. Instead of just opting for an FMV sequence, Square did an excellent job with utilizing the interactive medium that is gaming. You had total control of the character and clearly felt that you could control his destiny, but alas it was not possible.

It's such an odd sequence for me since I did the 1000 Shinra mission and I know Zack can easily defeat them, but I also knew that Zack had to die. Then there was the slow decay of the DMW. With his memories of each of the significant characters in his life fading away -- it was just brilliant.

Damn I just finished the game too. That ending was amazing. Zack really grew on me...
My GF finished this game two nights ago and she was crying her eyes out. Now I know why.

Okay I just
went back to Midgar and am in the process of getting Aerith her flower cart
. Is it me or
is the whole Hollander thing really played out? I wish he would just die already.

I'm 32% complete, whatever that means but I find the missions really tedious and try to avoid them, even the
Yuffie ones
, which are a bit different from the rest.

Yay I'm officially hating this. Hard means you have to play the missions. And they suck ass in new heights. The mission structure is always the same. The same bosses have to be killed over and over again and the locations are some of the dullest in FF history.

I got to the
church and met Aerith.
Then I went to the slums and I'm guessing the enviroments will never improve. There aren't even hidden areas to search and the dialogue with the inhabitants is really exciting! And what about that stolen wallet sequence! Unbelievable...

I am honestly starting to feel the same cold, gripping chokehold that happened during XII. Production values are high and I'm kind of enjoying myself, but something is seriously wrong here. Everything feels dead and there are these absurd and useless gameplay-chunks everywhere. What is happening to this series??!

If the game doesn't take flight soon, this actually might be the first "big" FF-title, that I will not finish.

Amirox you're not alone.

Just finished the game, and all I have to say is lo and behold, they did it again; the game made me tear up. Son of a bitch.

Just everything... From the epic last stand against the entire Shinra army to Zack clutching Cloud's head close before passing along the sword to him, quoting his once great mentor and sharing his wise, wise words. I almost lost it when you saw Zack slipping away.

I don't know what it was, but just the way they portrayed Zack's final moments. When he walked away from Cloud, and you saw him reach up as the sun blinded his view. And then the scene of the truck ride; "we're friends, right?" And that realization that the character who you'd been cheering on and battling to victory with was going to die. There was no happy ending. No miraculous saving. His time had come, but he had become a hero and he followed his dreams.

And you know, I'll be the first to admit that I didn't know what to make of Zack at the start of the game, but by the end, I felt a genuine attachment to him. It was so heart-wrenching when you saw the cut to the church in the slums where Aerith just knew Zack wouldn't be coming back. And when the Turks were saying they had 88 letters to bring to him... My oh my. And then there's the pure nostalgia boner of when they played the sequence from FFVII after the credits rolled.

Incredible game with an incredible ending. Well worth the time. Other developers should take notice; that's how you do an ending!

...and Zack, you did become a hero. *salutes*

I love that very last line. Very awesome translation. I watched the fansub version of the ending and just didn't have the same impact at all, imo

I've been playing this game for a couple hours now. While the visuals are bar none some of the best I've seen on PSP, the battles are so... boring. I find the DMW system VERY annoying because it pops up so often. There isn't much strategy required either, seems you can easily finish every battle basically just by bashing the X button and using cure.

You know, it could have been much better if they had used the same battle engine from Kingdom Hearts. Oh well... I'll probably still finish it, just for the story. For now, back to TWEWY :p

The enironments do improve a lot later on, I felt Midgar and that Wutai castle were weak. Besides those, everything was excellent.

Yeah now that I'm farther in, there's been a few places that have very pretty. Generally the game lacks the thick atmosphere FF7 had with its meticulously detailed backgrounds, but man I loved the countryside you walked through
during that pointless sniper sequence
. And Modeoheim was gorgeous. Simple places, but great mood.

But most of the interiors just don't feel right to me. Too much empty space... obviously for the battles.

Finished the game. Solid overall. The combat could've been a bit more complex and the number of unique skill materia could've been higher but it wasn't too bad. The main story for the game has too much poetry quotation. More exposition on it would've made the story better and it probably should've been integrated into FF7 as a whole better.

The ending though, holy shit. That was incredible. The game as a whole really fills out the rest of the FF7 story too. It did that pretty well for both Final Fantasy 7 and Advent Children. If they plan on remaking it, they'll definitely have to retcon some of the material to properly fit a lot of the stuff that was in this so it's consistent.

Also, having finished the game, there are a lot of little similarities in this when compared to the other works in the series. I was really reminded of the Sephiroth Remnants from Advent Children when I saw the interaction of Sephiroth, Angeal, and Genesis.

Finally finished it. So, so very awesome. Very sad. I have a question though.

Why didn't Zack die like in Last Order? Or is that something that doesn't tie into the storyline? Also, I haven't watched Advent Children/finished VII yet, so maybe that's why I don't understand. Some parts did seem kinda weird, so I guess I need to finish VII first to understand, correct?

Anyways, fucking awesome game!

Edit:
OMG, FFVII trailer, remake confirmed again. :lol

Last Order is just a fanservice for FFVII fans.

I had pretty mixed feelings about this game up to
the battle with Sephiroth. Hearing the awesome remade version of One Winged Angel during that battle was the first "wow" moment I had in the game.

I'm kind of surprised by how bad a lot of the music was though. Most of the remixes they did were really good, but what's with all the damn metal guitars? Isn't the FF7 soundtrack considered sacred by most of the fans of the game? I thought they would stick closer to original in that regard.

When Zack is getting blown away by the army and the Aerith DMW pops up after you think he has been killed, and you hear her say "When will I see you again?" (or whatever her words were)... I started getting teared up because I thought it was going to bring him once last bit of strength, then you see the DWM fade out. God, what a shitty feeling... for me. haha. There were times during the ending where I forgot I was playing a game, and it felt like I was watching real things unfold.

I mainly played this game because I have been planning to replay FF7 and I wanted to be able to get more out of the story, because I haven't played FF7 in 10 years. I'm glad I played it though, it was a great experience. My biggest regret is that I didn't start messing with materia fusion until right before the last battle, and by pure luck if I had not done the fusion I did... the final boss would have absolutely pummeled me. I can see myself going back and doing all of the missions and doing a bunch of materia fusion.

One last note... Aerith's voice actress is exceptional.

Just wrapped this up today... holy shit, fantastic game. After years of being absolutely sick of Final Fantasy VII and thinking the Compilations were a joke, I can honestly say that this one was so great that I am now in desperate need of a Final Fantasy VII remake. Awesome game, and the end segment was very well-made.

The end segment was made very well.

One can say the real enemy in Final Fantasy VII is
Hojo, way more than someone like Sephiroth
, at least for me.

I liked how they did it. But as someone mentioned on another board I went on, the only thing that bothered me really about the end was
that Square friggin teased me with that last battle. Man those missiles owned me. Also that Cloud refers to himself as Soldier First Class at the end, he was always ex-Soldier if I'm not mistaken.

Very well done, even if the plot is convoluted. And I really liked Cessnei, I was kinda getting the vibe that she was Elena for a while which would have been cool, but I guess I need to get those cell phone games and Dirge to figure out more about her.

I thought Cloud was just a Shinra infantryman, not SOLDIER.

Here is hoping that Cissnei makes an appearance in the FF7 remake, if it ever gets redone.

Should only take like 15 minutes, unfortunately one of the places you go is kinda hard to see.

Those are annoying, but there are items and materia you can use to ward off the "death" effect.

How and where do you get them? I've got about 65-70% of the missions done, and pretty much every mission left is a Very Hard mission with some asshole enemy that has instant death attacks.

Also, what is the best way to take down the giant red bulls (whatever they are called)? My only strategy so far is to jam on the attack button repeatedly for 150-200 damage and hope I get lucky with the DMW. It works, but it's very tiring. It guards against Graviga, Drain, Quake, Hell Thundaga, Tri-Fire, Flare, and just about everything. I'm sure this answer is somewhere in the thread, but I'm much too lazy to search, so any help is much appreciated!

The item you're looking for is a safety bit. I'm about 20 hours into the game with ~40% of the quests completed, and I got one hours and hours ago.

This may have been asked... but too many pages to go looking through.

Where do I get to buy things? I was poisoned on one of the missions and I don't have any antidotes. I need to find one or buy one so I don't have to constantly be healing. I'm right at the part where you are given the chance to walk around the city for the first time.

I believe there are three locations where you can get Magic Pot, each with a different combination of four attacks. You don't necessarily need Spin Attack.

Did you play FFVII? It's her original outfit.

It still looks tacky, her skirt was hanging so low from her waist. She definitely didn't look like a mountain girl to me. Maybe she was trying to impress Sephiroth :lol

It was known that Zack was her boyfriend in FF7. Though supposedly Aerith had stronger feelings for Cloud.

haven't played FF7 since 1997, i think i did remember her mentioning a person but not a name.

Ending Question:
who r those 2 person that picked up Genesis? r they hinting for a CC sequel?

Villians from Dirge of Cerberus. At the end of Dirge Genesis is revived. This all happens 3 years after FF7

Unless you meant to say something other than what you literally declared ("no rational person thinks FF7 is the best in the series"), there is no missing context to be had. If you didn't mean to say it, learn to write and stop calling people "ingrates."

Here is the whole of your original text:
remember just why FF7 is the best of the best
I don't know any rational person that believes this. It's cool if it's your favorite in the series -- as it is for a lot of people -- but it's hardly the best.
Yeah, clearly I'm way off base...

Cloud is Aerith's rebound boy.

Ferrio said:

I believe that's what the short story in the FF7 Ultimania inferred. Aerith liked Zack because of his attitude and his charm when she was younger, but she connected with Cloud on a deeper level and loved him more. Of course, even though it was published by Square I wouldn't exactly call it canon.
