Thanks for the info on that Sectus, sounds crazy hard. But I believe it has to be, the pro mode should be the ultimate test of two people working togther. But if it significantly alters the way the game is played then it did probably go too far. Anyway I am excited to try it out.
at least it isnt unlockable from the start. Some games trick you and have it as the hard difficulty and when gamers get too far into it they realize they screwed themselves. Being a secret mode makes it less frustrating when you know it will be a big challenge.

I like really challenging difficulty options, but I don't think this is how they should have made it. It would have worked great as a "bonus" difficulty, similar to Hell and Hell in Devil May Cry 4. But as with DMC4, I would have loved higher difficulty levels where the enemy layouts were different and more challenging, and the AI was changed to become more difficult. They kinda went the lazy route of making the primary difference between difficulty levels just be damage scaling.

And I know I'm just repeating this... but damnit, they shouldn't have made that item box persistent :p

I was wondering if the US collector's Edition is worth it or if I should stick with the Regular edition.
Im getting the collectors edition as well as the limited guide, just cause its a RE release. Every major RE release i always get the limited editions.

But this limited edition doesnt really have me excited.

The bag, emblem and stuff are worthless to me. Im most interested in the tin case and the making-of dvd. One of which i could just view online im sure.

If you want stupid nick nacks pick up the Collectors Edition - I personally think it's a waste of money. If they had some cool Umbrella logo stuff I would give it a second glance.

If anyone wants the game tomorrow PM me now!

Reading Sectus's posts makes me wonder. Has anyone checked the RE5 save data? Maybe there is a separate file for character data (item inventory, where you currently are in the main game, etc.) and system file that records the bonus character unlocks and such (like with RE4).

What is
slayers
? And why the hell are the spoilers for a mode in the game? Isn't that a selling point? It's like putting spoiler tags on the online racing mode in Mario Kart Wii.

Whoa, what the fuck. I wonder how that is going to work.

In other news: TODAY IS THE DAY (I hope).

Well, I'm halfway through professional mode now, and I'm unfortunately a bit disappointed.

The good thing is that Pro difficulty is obviously designed for the player to have upgraded weapons (but not infinite weapons), and the secret weapons seems to be well balanced for it. The bad side is that it's difficult in a way which can be extremely frustrating. The differences I've noticed so far are these:
-Enemies are faster to get back up after being knocked down (doing the ground melee attack becomes almost impossible)
-Many items are removed (for instance, in one the shanty town buildings you'd normally find 1 red herb, some handgun ammo and 2 grenades, those are all gone)
-And the one huge difference: almost all enemies will kill you in one hit. And the dying state timer is insanely short. So short that you literally have to be standing right next to your partner if you want to be saved.

It can be fun at times and it's definitely a huge challenge. But it's also very frustrating at places, especially when you fight enemies who use molotov cocktails or crossbows. Some of the bossfights becomes very frustrating as well since missing one single QTE means game over. I don't think this is a mode you'd want to play with strangers because you'd easily become a huge liability unless the both of you work closely together and have a lot of patience.

I'm having fun with the mode (besides a few super frustrating boss fights, like the one in 3-3... if anyone has any tips on how to easily avoid those QTEs, let me know), but it's not a mode I'd be tempted to play again. And it just reminds me that Capcom really messed up the balance in the game. They never should have implemented persistent inventory across all modes. They should have reserved that for new game +. I think that's one of the reasons why they made Pro such a weird difficulty. They knew players might play the Pro difficulty armed to the teeth, so they made it difficult by giving enemies basically the same advantage that you have.

One thing which is a big disappointment is that I can't play the game the same way I played the demo. I enjoyed playing the demo with random people and see how their playstyle would be. That's impossible to do in the full game. If I host a game or I join someone else's game, there's no chance we have balanced weaponry. One of us will make things way too easy or way too frustrating. And jumping into random coop games with Pro difficulty won't work well (most people are just chickening out and playing that mode with infinite ammo anyway).

I checked out the settings for splitscreen and I noticed they have actually implemented 2 versions of it. If the second controller is logged into a gamertag, it works the same way as online coop. If the second controller is not logged in, he becomes a "guest" and everything is based on the host's savegame (which means both players can freely trade weapons, gold won't be doubled, and the second player will control Sheva with the weapons the host gave her). If they had added the guest option for online play too, that would have been a good solution. That and removing the stupid persistent inventory of course.

If I ever replay the game again I'll definitely do it starting with an empty inventory. And if I play it coop I'll make sure my partner does the same thing. At least Capcom didn't make any mistakes with mercenaries mode. That mode is still balanced and a ton of fun to replay.
Wow, Pro mode sounds like a total bitch. Awesome.

Personally, I can't wait for superprofessionalific mode on the PC, where the enemy count is quadrupled or something. :lol

I just checked and there's only one save file for the game. I think moving all your items from your inventory to the item box and then start the game with an empty inventory and only work from there (never move stuff from the item box) will be pretty much the same as starting a game from scratch.

That's interesting. I can remember the demo leak mentioned mercenaries and versus as 2 different modes. It's such a shame Capcom has started to do stuff like this. I'm gonna say it's extremely likely the mode was finished before the game was released, and now they're gonna wait a few weeks to make gullible people believe they used time to develop it and charge 10 or whatever dollars for it.

Unfortunately, I'll be part of the problem and buy it instantly. I want and need all the content in the game. I'm gonna bet versus mode works the same as mercenaries except there can be a total of 4 players who play on teams or free for all for the best score, and you can do a few type of direct attacks on the human players. It could be a lot of fun.

That I would gladly welcome with open arms (as long as it's based on the veteran difficulty that is. 4 times as many enemies who all kill you in one hit would be kinda impossible). I really do hope they spend some time adding some kind of new content to the PC version considering it'll probably be released in 5-7 months.

I'm on 3-1 right now and it doesn't really have the Resident Evil feeling.

You know saying this sorta makes me think whoa... but will say it anyways. I'm a huge RE fan and I honestly LOVE the change in atmosphere in RE5. It so fresh and unique and so un-resident evily, though it still has the story, enemies, characters, vibe, etc.

Its hard to explain exactly but I like the fresh feeling this game is giving me , especially with the locations, my god the locations. So many. :D

You cant just compare scores, a 7 there isnt the same as a 7 at IGN. 7 at Gamekult isnt that bad. Halo wars got a 5 there, and killzone 2 a 8.
Yeah but reading the readers comments, the game getting a 7 means it's unplayable, at least for their readers. Putain ce qu'ils sont cons la-bas. :lol Non mais vraiment, le jeu est peu t'etre pas le 4 mais dire que c'est une daube à cause d'un 7 c'est franchement attardé.

It's also in one of the flashbacks briefly. I can't remember, but it's definitely in the game.

- Bring the Pain - Defeat 100 players using physical attacks in Versus.
The fact they've got this one in there makes me wonder if there'll be more characters added. I would be beyond happy if that's the case.

You can see those trophies if you compare trophies with anyone who has the game.

I'm on the last boss fight.

RE5 is definitely shorter and less meatier than RE4 as a whole. Imagine cutting out the castle in RE4, and you have RE5's length.

The boss fights are fairly difficult, and it isn't always obvious what you have to do. But I'm having a great time. It's just that I've never ever finished an RE on the first day I've owned it, so I'm a little surprised that I waited so many years to play RE5 only to end up finishing it in a day. :lol
RE4 without the castle? The Castle is the best part of RE4! Don't make me lay my hands on you CVX. Next thing you'll tell me RE5 doesn't have any set pieces as awesome as the castle canon, rotating turret room, Lava Room, Walking statues or helicopter escorting. It better have a boss fight as awesome as Krauser and the invisible Alien/Predator hybrid.

I thought the castle segmented the action perfectly so it wasn't just a blitz through...sure it's a bit slower but it also gave you that RE feeling with that big central hub; Mansion, RPD, ect
