^ It's a good theory and it has been tossed around a lot. That being said, the Oracle in the comics has their own history in the DC universe that is completely different then Chloe's life. They could mend the two together but then it would destroy the idea of Chloe being a totally new character in the Superman mythology but instead a version of the Oracle and I'm not sure that the Smallville producers would want to do that with Chloe but instead keep her as a totally separate character but who knows.

UPDATED 3/8/09: The "very big thing" we teased... yep, it's more guest heroes. Though we're veering on the side of it being the Justice League rather than the Legion as Ausiello had hinted. Apparently a new set is being constructed to tie in with their return.

UPDATED 3/18/09: The new set is said to be replacing the Isis Foundation set.

Yeah this would seem to suggest that the new set will indeed focus around a new command center for the Justice League and that could be extremely awesome.

Stay away from Kryptonsite today. Terribly lame April Fool's jokes about Martha being in the finale and Lex coming back next season for 12 episodes.

Bunch of new small spoilers. Nothing huge, just stuff to look forward to:

- The second to last episode of the season, Injustice, is being changed to include actual DC villains rather than generic meteor freaks. Leech is being changed to
Parasite
(Wiki link) and they will also be introducing the Smallville version of
Livewire
(Wiki link), who actually first appeared in the Superman animated series.

And some finale stuff:

- Cassidy Freeman (Tess) on who is
dying
: "They are not even telling us," she says. "They are holding off as long as they can [letting us know] who is coming back next year. The show is going into season nine. I don't know if Tess Mercer is going into season nine."

- One of the returning
Justice Leaguers
returning was last seen in the
premiere this season, meaning either Aquaman or Black Canary
. Another has not been seen since
"Justice" in season 6, meaning either Cyborg or Impulse
.

- As if it wasn't enough super hero goodness, we have at least one more:
Rokk/Cosmic Boy
.

- Kara may have returned, but she's shooting the V pilot.

- Other than
two characters dying
, some might just be leaving. I really hope Oliver is staying on for season 9.

- All seven main cast members are in the finale. With that and all the guest stars, they're packing a damn lot into this episode. I hope, but doubt, it's 10 minutes longer like the season 4 finale.

when is the finale again?

also how can the actors not know
who is dying? does that imply that many many characters are near death in the finale? or was that interview before they filmed it?

I think Clark dying is kind of a given but they are saying that the two deaths will be something that sticks and that those characters will never return (which obviously won't count for Clark).

After last week's episode, I'm definitely hoping it isn't Chloe. They're setting up something fantastic for her: pretty much making her Oracle. They're building a new set to take the place of the Isis set in season 9, which is supposed to be the Justice League home base.

Let's be honest,
if they didn't have Doomsday and Clark kill each other in the finale
, it would be kind of lame.
I want to see that famous scene from the comic where Lois is holding Clark's dying body. Then fade to credits. (Preferably followed by a scene teasing Lex's return ... a boy can dream.)

I'm starting to wonder if they're going to
bring back Lana for the finale, only to kill her off
. Doubtful, but who knows?

They're keeping it very secretive for a reason.

I suppose it is possible but Lana is a mythos character and I'm not sure if they are allowed to kill off mythos characters.

Wow, that episode was like payoff for watching this show for eight years, especially after rewatching the whole series very recently. It put that pilot episode in a whole new perspective, knowing Davis was right there watching the whole time.

And I liked how they actually brought up the whole Indian cave thing again, with that double headed dragon. Obviously it was a retcon, but a pretty cool one, in that it was never Clark/Lex, but Clark/Davis.

I also like the twist on Doomsday, making more sense of him appearing before Clark becomes Superman: Clark needs to die before he is ready to become Superman.

Two things though:

- Jimmy should have been in this episode. And Lois better be given a full season contract next year.
- Watching the old footage of the Kents in that field made me realize how much lower the budget is now. I really hope the CW bumps up their budget for the final season next year.

This episode was pretty bad actually because it had tons and tons of mistakes, plotholes and inconsistencies. I'm disappointed by the lazy writing we are getting. Here are some to name a few (ripped from another site):

-Chloe is able to stop Doomsday almost any time she wants but that wasn't the case in the original timeline arc for "Infamous"
-Lex didn't know the St. George (about the box) story until that b-day party of his
-Tess was able to get Lionel's Veritas journal yet Lex has never been able to.
-Another one is why did the knife in Talisman disappear when Lex touched it if he wasn't Clark's greatest enemy?
-Why was there kryptonite in the st george box and why was it on lionels desk when it was the gift for lex from where ever lionel got it. Did he re-gift it to lex? haha
-How would he even know about kryptonite that early in the Smallville storyline.
-It sure did look like Lionel Luthor lived there even though Clark said that Lionel never lived in the castle and had no intention to.
-Why did Davis get cut by the knife when in previous episodes he couldn't be harmed by knives?
-There was plenty of weird stuff, but the most glaring plothole for me would be the whole "Oliver's taking care of it" bit, and then Davis shows up, completely fine in Chloe's basement. Yeah, but wha -- ?!
-You gotta laugh how Lionel's people tracked down Davis right past the spaceship and left it there for somebody else to retrieve
-Lionels men didn't even notice the big egg Doomsday hatched from and ignored that he spoke perfect English.
-I have to rewatch the episode but was it Tess that made the comment that Davis and Clark didn't get along for a reason? If so (unless i'm wrong) ... how would she know that?
-All sorts of biblical errors and misinterpretations from the new Testament.
-Also.. So Lional knew clark was the travel all along? they have always had him suspecting it but not knowing. Also wasnt it Johnathan not Martha that called in the favor?
-Somehow the Orb magically survived Jor-El's destruction of the fortress and magically found it's way back to Tess Mercer who has never even seen the Orb in person before.
-Didn't Clark say he had nightmares as a child of his ship landing in the cornfield and no one came to find him? He must have been 15 or 16 when he found out he came from another planet.

I want to pretend that this episode never happened as it seems like the writers were so lazy that they didn't even both going back and looking at the past episodes and if they did then they figured "oh well, screw it" and decided to write whatever they felt like.

I just typed out a long fucking reply, but the god damn fucking errors that keep happening on the forum made me lose it. Ugh.

So I'll sum it up: you mentioned a few worthy things, but there's a lot of nitpicking there, which I can look past because the actual episode was so good.

But why watch Smallville for it's story if the story is going to completely change from season to season? They made a LOT of mistakes and it's just not something I can easily ignore. Some of these mistakes are just over the top bad.

I don't think any of those are "over the top bad" though, and a few of them have some logicl answers, like the dagger thing.

Davis being the second head of the painting is Tess' interpretation of it. There is no definite answer. Also, we don't even know if it was Lex or Lionel that touched that dagger.

Hell, as far as the dagger goes, not the painting, it could have turned to dust at the touch of any future mortal enemy of Clark. This was all interpretations and stories. Nothing proven. So I can look past that.

I thought the new writers did a good job on this episode. They did the best they could to tie in all the past seasons into the lead up to the final season so that it would all make as much sense as possible. Ofcourse there are going to be a few loop holes or minor things that don't seem to make sense, but its not like they could have predicted where the show would be today starting 7 seasons ago.

I think that would be a perfect way to end the season. You think Michael Rosenbaum would come back to play Lex for one last season? just to wrap things up all nice & neat for the fans?

Michael Rosenbaum has a new Sitcom he is trying to get NBC to pick up for next year so there is a very little chance of him coming back at all next year.

Trailer for April 23rd episode, "stiletto":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4GjCLwKuas

Spoiler regarding who leaves Smallville:

UPDATED 4/2/09: The report of "everyone returning but Sam Witwer" may be incorrect: At least one other actor or actress seen in Smallville's opening credits will not be back next season.

Davis appears to be the non veteran character who is being killed off but what do you think the veteran character will be?

I wasn't expecting him for the whole season, but maybe a few cameo appearances near the last few episodes showing him taking the reigns back in Luthor Corp. and truly aspiring to be all that we know hm to grow up to be.

As far as whos not coming back, I'm guessing it will be a female & it won't be Chloe or Lois.

Lana will never be back on the show. Also the other character is suppose to be veteran. Tess is not a veteran character. That isn't to say Tess won't die but at least one veteran character is also suppose to die and never return. That is unless the spoilers we have been getting are inaccurate.

Well it doesn't make sense then. Ausielelelo said it's not Chloe. And obviously Clark is coming back.

So something isn't true. Haha.

As Kevin said, he landed a pilot with West from Heroes. Haha.

Of course, if the pilot doesn't get picked up, who knows? He said he would be willing to come back for the final episode, but if the pilot doesn't get picked up, maybe they can convince him to come back for a confirmed "final" season of Smallville.

I kind of doubt it though.

By the way Kevin, I double checked, and they said "we" called in a favor to Lionel. Not just Jonathan, so at least that part wasn't wrong.

I think this season has had some great episodes as well as some not so great episodes. I "think" that the next episodes could all be great.

At this point, I am looking forward to seeing what they plan for season nine and whether or not they are going to plan it as the final season. If they plan it as the final season then I really hope we get some significant Superman stuff like flying. By the end of the series, I want Clark to be flying, dating Lois and possibly even see the Superman costume being created. I just want to reach this point and finish the long journey. I would also love to see Michael Rosenbaum to come back for at least an episode or two for the series finale as Lex Luthor. It's a big wish list but a lot of this stuff has been teased for seasons and I think the producers/writers should give it to us.

Good point. I think I remember Clark talking about watching the castle be brought in piece by piece when he was younger (past episode) so this could be another loophole or sorts. I don't know! I know Lex is like 7 years older then Clark so it would seem to suggest that when Lex was in that mansion, Clark wouldn't have even been born yet. Yet many Smallville episodes featured the mansion and the Luthors living in it. So it sounds like a plot hole carried over throughout the seasons. Unless the Luthors were living in Scotland.

it could have been the castle when in Scotland, but it doesnt jive with the fact that Davis was found in Smallville and they just made it seem like he wasnt taken very far. Lex said he had the castle brought over brick by brick when he was looking for something of Lionel's, i forgot what. Davis's memory can be explained by the fact that it was an exact recreation though. anyway, personally the plotholes didnt make it any less enjoyable.

i remember somebody mentioned martha and johnathon cameos, was that for this season or next? i hope it wasnt this season and that was it.

^ yeah those flashback scenes were it for the Kent cameos. That isn't to say we won't see them in season nine sometime. Who knows!

This is a little interesting:

Filming for S8 has been extended to April 8. They had to make some changes to the finale script and were a few days late getting started.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the
deaths
. Also regarding Kara possibly coming back in season nine for an episode or something:

Q: Will you be returning to Smallville?
A: I couldn't tell you.I did one this season. They called and asked me for what they thought would be the season finale, but now they're coming back for another year. I have an inkling that I'll be back for an episode next year. I don't think they can keep me hanging for too long.

I like this season and last night's ep, but I am bothered by retcons. Little Doomsday, found on the asteroid day, is a retcon just like Uncle ben getting accidentall shot by Flint Marko is a retcon. Don't like 'em.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable with how tragic the Davis Bloom character is. He wants to be a good guy, but he can't because of his transformation to doomsday. But I want to like him, Witwer is doing a good job. The back-n-forth needs to end soon - bring on the evil and let the fight begin already.

I'm reading it right now to see what is in it. :D

EDIT: Some highlights:

-Chloe doesn't appear to be the death victim
-There is some massive battling in the streets of Metropolis.
-Watchtower is indeed beeing built for the season finale and will play a major role in season nine. Apparently looks amazing. Is Earth based and not in space.
-One of the guys said that everyone believes that there will be a season 10 as well.

More stuff inside the article. Pictures look really great! :D

Now here is a post I am making for the true die hard fans that REALLY need to know what is going to happen in Smallville. I have three partial scripts for the next three episodes of the show. Obviously they are packed with spoilers so if you don't want to have some of the surprises ruined then don't read these.

Partial "Stiletto" Script:
http://spoilertv-smallville.blogspot.com/2009/02/episode-819-stiletto-casting-sides_11.html

Partial "Beast" Script:
http://spoilertv-smallville.blogspot.com/2009/02/episode-820-beast-casting-sides.html

Partial "Injustice" Script:
http://spoilertv-smallville.blogspot.com/2009/03/episode-821-injustice-casting-sides.html

I will post a few pieces of information from these episodes as marked spoilers:

Stiletto:

-Unless the names of the characters were to change some how, it seems almost 100% certain that the beginnings of Intergang will be introduced into Smallville. Bruno Manheim is the main baddie in this episode and as you may or may not know, he runs Intergang in the comics.
-Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Chloe all have pretty big roles in this episode. The script sounds fantastic.
-Truly does sound like a "Lois and Clark" episode.
-Chloe, after exhausted of options, tricks one of the bad guys (AJ) to go into the cellar where Davis Bloome is camping out (probably a cool scene). There was worry that Chloe would be helping Doomsday with his evil work but this is almost acceptable (though I think Chloe will regret this later and Clark will be upset). Still she didn't have much of a chance if she wanted to survive.

Beast:

-Cops are investigating Chloe for her friendship with Davis Bloome.
-Oliver and Jimmy shares a scene. Oliver is annoyed that Jimmy is pulling him away from an "Ace of Clubs" meeting with two Chinese businessmen. Seems like a plot is forming between Oliver and the Businessmen.

Injustice:

-Injustice League is unveiled with Tess running the show.
-The members don't like Tess and are upset when they find out another meteor infected was killed (not including any of the actual members that were announced).
-Tess tried to destroy the Phantom Zone crystal but failed miserably.
-Injustice League ties up and slightly tortures Tess but Clark quickly comes to her rescue. Tess is happy that Clark has arrived. Naturally one of the Injustice League members knocks her out (so she can't see Clark in action). Lots of action in this scene, Oliver joins the battle.
-Sounds like a considerable amount of action in this episode and possibly special effects.
-Tess loses control of the Injustice League and they break off to form their own league.
-The Injustice League isn't completely evil yet. They sometimes have good intentions, sometimes don't. You can obviously tell they are headed toward being completely evil. It's a great start for their involvement with Smallville.
-Tess is listed in the script as "Villainess". While it doesn't confirm that Tess is indeed seen as a villain in the writer's eyes, it does show that at least as of now they are calling her a villain.

That is just a handful of the spoilers in those scripts. You can read more about them if you actually read the scripts. These episodes all sound fantastic and there isn't anything that I can find that disappoints or upsets me. Of course they are not complete scripts but partials but they reveal quite a bit and the episodes sounds fantastic. I will even gamble and say that they sound like they could be some of season 8's best episodes. No script for Doomsday yet but I wouldn't be surprised to see that appear any day now.

Also I want to mention that as far as I am concerned, I don't think these scripts are in violation of the forum rules here. I don't see any legal stuff going around for other sites that have posted them or links to them. If it is a problem then feel free to moderate the post and let me know because I have no intention on breaking the forum rules but instead to keep Smallville fans informed with what they can expect from the show in the future.

Holy crap @ "everyone believes there will be a season 10".

Who would have thought this show would go so far?

But man, Kevin, I gotta ask, how do you read big spoilers like that? For me it would take a lot of the excitement out of it.

Are you going to check out the "Doomsday" spoilers?

Sadly my impatience gets the best of me. :lol

Some minor stuff:

Stiletto Spoiler:
-UPDATED 4/5/09: The "Red-Blue Blur" tells Lois that her merit as a writer is also a great strength.

Beast Spoiler:
-UPDATED 4/5/09: One of "Bruno Mannheim's thugs" (in other words, A.J. from "Stiletto") is found dead in a dumpster, which leads Clark to believe that Davis/Doomsday didn't perish in "Eternal."

Yeah, if they do plan on having Smallville go for two more seasons then I really am hoping that they will pay to have the DC restrictions disappear and finally have Clark become Superman or at least fly and date Lois and maybe wear a prototype costume or something. Otherwise, if they don't get the limitations removed then I fear we will be getting more of the same.

It is starting to look like the
Justice League and Intergang
are about to play a major role in season nine judging by spoilers. That could be a bad sign that they plan on having the
Justice League play a major role in Smallville in order to kind of sweep Clark's destiny under the carpet because they ran out of things they are allowed to do with his character in the Smallville universe.

- The producers have planned two different potential arcs to end Season 8, depending on if there is another season. Regardless of when it happens, the final episode will be "either a heroic send-off or a heartbreaking decision for Clark to move on to the next phase." Souders is confident that the show could work for a ninth season. "People have been telling Superman stories for decades, so we have no doubt we can tell stories for another year," she says.

I think we can assume that they decided to go with the second option:

"heartbreaking decision for Clark to move on to the next phase."

This would suggest that Clark would be embracing his destiny in season nine but at this point we will just have to wait and see what happens.

So the two
Justice League
people coming back in the finale are
Black Canary and Impulse
. Could be others, but I doubt it.

This should be damn epic, remember that
Rock from the Legion
will also be in it.

But, as of that final spoiler, I'm going on a media blackout for the rest of the season. And dammit Kevin, do the same for the finale. :lol

Judging by the pictures, this episode is going to be extremely epic. I can't freakin wait!

The official CW description for the episode, "Beast":

The CW's Official Description: "Beast"
Airs April 30, 2009 on The CW

DAVIS ASKS CHLOE TO LEAVE TOWN WITH HIM — Clark (Tom Welling) discovers that Davis (Sam Witwer) is still alive and confronts Chloe (Allison Mack) about protecting him. Oliver (Justin Hartley) discovers Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore) breaking into Chloe’s apartment, but things get rapidly worse after Davis jumps from the shadows and attacks both of them. Michael Rohl directed the episode written by Genevieve Sparling (#3T7470).

So it is looking like the last four episodes of Smallville will be really good. The next episode will air on April 23rd. :D

Quite a bit of stuff came out today for both season 8 and season 9. Here it is:

First here are some screenshots from the upcoming episode, Beast:

http://spoilertv-smallville.blogspot.com/2009/04/episode-820-beast-promotional-photos.html

While the screenshots don't reveal a whole lot, one can look into them and find some odd patterns and what not.

Ausiello on who dies:

Ask Ausiello 04/15/09

Question: You spoiled recently that there will be a permanent veteran death in the Smallville season finale. Is this character featured in the Season 8 opening credits? --Krissy
Ausiello: Yes.

That really narrows things down and finally an interview with the Smallville producers:

Clark can fly but simply hasn't finalized it yet, in my opinion. When will we see him mastering this ability? — Tombstone25

Kelly Souders:
Clark Kent won't really become Superman until he takes to the skies. We all have our stumbling blocks; his are just air-born. Until he can fully embrace his double-life, he'll have a hard time getting off the ground. But, we will say, his "leaps" are getting closer and closer to the real thing.

Are there plans to explore more of Lois' past in future episodes? Because we Lois fans are dying to learn more about her. And if she and Clark don't kiss soon, we might go just a little crazy! — Nora_1983

Souders:
Please don't go crazy. We're all anxious for those two ships to stop passing in the night. Lois fans will be excited to hear you'll be seeing more of Lois in the future. She's fascinating and we'll never stop digging into what makes her tick.

Will we see more of Chloe as Watchtower in the upcoming episodes? — Tyson08

Souders:
Watchtower.... All we'll say is "stay tuned."

"Watchtower officially online" — that scene rocked! Is there any chance of a relationship between Watchtower and Green Arrow? The idea of that seems so wrong but at the same time so right. — Lorraine

Souders:
We love anything that is so wrong and so right. We know Chloe and Oliver's paths will keep crossing and evolving. But Watchtower and Green Arrow? That will give us a lot to twitter about in the writers' room!

Why is Clark so remote from Chloe this season? Is he done being her "personal bomb squad" at a time when she needs him more than ever? — meab

Souders:
Clark has the weight of the world on his shoulders and one of his few flaws is that he doesn't always see the problems closest to him. That relationship has been tested this season — and we must admit it hasn't seen the worst of the exams.

Will we see Green Arrow and RBB team up anytime soon this season or next? — rip
Souders:
Yes. But the outcome may surprise you.

I probably won't get a straight answer but I am going to take a chance: Did you think that was the best closure for Clark and Lana? Breaking them up because they had to, not because they learned as adults they were not going to work? — marhikaty

Souders:
We wanted the young Lana we met eight years ago — the girl who always needed to be saved — to finish her arc as far from that helpless cheerleader as possible. It's because they were adults, challenging each other to be stronger and better, that they had to part. The Kryptonite was really a symbol for what fans knew all along — that they weren't destined for each other.

What has been your favorite episode this season and why? — heinzy512

Souders:
I'm a big fan of "Identity." Watching Clark struggle with his two personas has been interesting and fun. I loved seeing him backed into corners from which he wasn't sure how to escape.

Although [Smallville series cocreators] Al Gough and Miles Millar have left the building, do you keep in contact with them? — smallville836

Souders:
We absolutely do keep in contact with them. They created the show and had the vision for it.

Are any of the executive producers going to do commentaries on the Season 8 DVD? — Lennox

Souders:
Brian [Peterson] and Darren [Swimmer] did it last week. Unfortunately, I had a fever of 102. But the episodes picked were two of my favorites from this year.

The ratings have been great this year and we've even been renewed for another season. What do you think kept people tuning in? And do you hope to capitalize on whatever that was next year? — HelgaNR

Souders:
Hopefully people have been tuning in for the characters. It's been a lot of fun to watch them grow up. They still have a few growing pains to endure, but seeing them evolve into three-dimensional people with issues and baggage like the rest of us has been exciting. It never hurts to be reminded that even Superman has his off days. And diving further into the DC [Comics] world has been rich with possibilities. We plan to continue with both those aspects of the show — as well as come up with some new ones!

So anyone want to guess who the character is that will die? :lol My opinion is that season nine will look like this:

Chloe as Watchtower, heavily working with the Justice League. Chloe Sulivan may "die" in Doomsday but she will take on a new secret identity for her Watchtower position and only a few people will be aware of who she is (even Jimmy will think she is dead). Season nine will also focus on Lois and Clark's relationship forming and I think they will share some romance as well. Clark's destiny will continue to unfold!
