You bet your ass the Persuader is the villain!

Being a bit of a Legion fan... I'm kinda geeking out about that episode.:lol

Being a ginormous Legion fan, it's the only reason I still watch Smallville. I've been dreaming of a LSH cameo since the series started.

Well I just hope the episode is good really. Still, to see these characters will be awesome.

Seriously.

I hate to be an ass, but if he wanted to be known as anything other then "That Superman guy" he should have ended the show back in his relevance. He's not a hot commodity anymore.

His biggest motion picture success has been working alongside Steve Martin for Christs sake!

Why leave the sure thing with the loyal fans to become a failed actor like David Boreanaz?*

*Not a knock at David, but he was so ready to leave Angel to do Bones?!

It would be more awesome if Val Armorr popped up and styled on Doomsday.
I'd love for Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, or PowerGirl to show up sometime.:D

PowerGirl only if they can find someone with a Ginormous rack.

Pretty much.

What I don't get is why he's so against the tights. I understand it was originally pitched as "No tights, No Flights" but get fucking real Tom. You're playing Superman for fucks sake.

AVATAR QUOTING POTENTIAL AT MAXIMUM LEVEL!!!

Here is the blurb about a possible Superman cameo in the new GL movie. The writer mentions Routh and Welling, so who knows who they might end up with if they get to film that scene.

The Incredible Hulk from Superhero Hype Boards said:
Possible TW as Clark Kent cameo in the new Green Lantern movie?

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2008/12/0...n-casting-supermans-cameo-and-script-changes/

And while there’s already a lot of speculation over who would play Green Lantern — Ryan Gosling? Matthew Settle? David Boreanaz? — what about Clark Kent, who will make a small cameo? Will the part go to someone already established on film or television to be the Man of Steel, like Brandon Routh or Tom Welling?

“There were rumors that Tom Welling would have a cameo in ‘Batman Begins’ as a young Clark Kent, to meet up with a young Bruce Wayne,” Guggenheim noted. “But you have to be careful when you do things like that, because it sounds great in concept, but when you sit down to watch it, it poses the danger of pulling you out of the film.”

But as a self-proclaimed “sucker for a good Easter egg,” Guggenheim said, “The fanboy in me would love that. Robert Downey, Jr. in ‘The Hulk’ was awesome. I love that stuff in general, and I think the fans would enjoy it. Brandon Routh or even Tom Welling [in 'Green Lantern'] would be awesome. And anything is possible. The beauty part of being the writer, though, is that I don’t actually have to make that judgment call.”

As for Welling not wanting to do S9 of Smallville, I think he's doing what Alison Mack did with her holdout over the summer. A larger pay check and maybe producing title or something else would get him back. While the ratings have been pretty good, it's not set in stone yet that the show is coming back. Of course he holds more leverage since he's main character. Then again, he's been the same character for 8 years so maybe that's enough for him. I haven't seen him do many interviews the last couple years so who knows what he's thinking.

Some new details. Major spoilers are highlighted.

Episode #8-16: "Turbulence"
2009

Directed By: Kevin Fair

UPDATED 12/8/08: "Turbulence" as a title refers to interactions between Clark and Tess on Oliver's jet as well as turbulence associated with Jimmy's return from his coma.
- Tess takes Clark out of town with her to an important press conference in another city.
- Clark tries to find out from Tess how much Lex had actually told her about him.
- Jimmy reacts violently seeing Davis and has an angry outburst towards Chloe.
- Davis visits a cathedral where he confesses that he has hurt people that he cares about.

UPDATED 12/5/08: Title Revealed. Please do not repost this on other websites without a link to KryptonSite.com.
- Contrary to the rumored director's list posted on Rumorville, this episode is NOT directed by Tom Welling. Perhaps he's doing a different one later.
- Aaron Ashmore returns in this episode as Jimmy Olsen, but Erica Durance (Lois) and Justin Hartley (Oliver) do not appear.

Episode #8-17: "Hex"
2009

zatannaDirected By: Tom Welling

UPDATED 12/9/08: This episode puts a spin on the "Chlois theory" as a magic spell turns Chloe into Lois... literally.
- Cassidy Freeman (Tess) and Sam Witwer (Davis) do not appear in this episode.

UPDATED 12/8/08: Title Revealed. Please do not repost this on other websites without a link to KryptonSite.com.
- The episode's guest is a character named "Cassie" whose father taught her about sorcery before he passed away. We're wondering if "Cassie" might be a substitute name for the DC Comics magician character Zatanna, much like "Melissa" was substituted for "Maxima" in initial leaks. Many Silver Age DC Comic books told the tale of Zatanna looking for her father, Zatara. Interesting trivia: Zatara first appeared in the same comic book that introduced Superman - Action Comics #1!
- Cassie tries to get Oliver to believe in witchcraft, and comes to him for help. Apparently Lex had obtained an item before he disappeared that she would like to obtain. She offers to give Oliver his "deepest desire" if he helps her.

Those are official spoilers. Here are a couple rumors:

-The city mentioned in "Turbulence" is Star City which is home of Green Arrow.
-"Cassie" in "Hex" will actually be renamed "Zatanna" which is a magician in the DC comics.
-YouTube interview with Black Canary suggests the beginning of a relationship between the Black Canary and the Green Arrow like what is done in the comics.

Last but not least, Buddy TV has a preview up for Smallville in which he has an excellent theory on a possible season 8 ending scenario regarding Doomsday and Clark Kent. Since it doesn't have that many major spoilers, I will just quote it:

Smallville: Will Doomsday Kill Clark?

dooms(1).jpg

When it was first announced that Doomsday would be appearing on Smallville, the question on everyone's mind was whether the character would eventually kill Clark. In the Superman comic book series, Doomsday is the one villain who's ever managed to murder the Man of Steel. The death obviously didn't stick, but Superman was gone for months before returning with an unfortunate mullet and enhanced powers.

A new promo has been released for the January 15 return of Smallville, and it shows that Doomsday will stop at nothing to keep Chloe by his side. Will the alien menace end up killing Clark, or will Smallville take the story in an entirely different direction?

I'm usually not one to root for someone kicking the bucket, but I'm holding out hope that Doomsday will kill Clark. There's really no other reason to bring the character into the Smallville mythology. The producers of the series have changed numerous things about Doomsday's origin, but I hope they at least allow him to fulfill his ultimate destiny. I think it'd be fascinating to watch other heroes rise up while Clark temporarily "died" for a few episodes. It would also make for one heck of a season-ending cliffhanger.

If the promo below is any indication, it looks like Smallville may be planning to create a weird Beauty and the Beast parallel between Davis and Chloe. Davis is certainly a monster, but he's a monster in love, and he fully intends to keep Chloe as his own. The clip shows him taking her to the Fortress of Solitude, which seems like the last place he should go if he intends to avoid Clark. I have no doubt that there will be an epic smackdown between the hero and the villain, but who will come out on top?

New Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uK_R5t7yY8

Smallville returns to the CW on January 15 with an episode entitled "Legion." In this special installment written by comic scribe Geoff Johns, the Legion of Super-Heroes arrives from the future to help Clark track down Chloe. Thankfully, he won't have to search beyond his icy fortress.

Season 8 has been great so far and it looks like the quality will continue. I really do hope that Tom Welling signs on for another season and that the show gets renewed for another season. With the quality improving, there really is no longer a need to end the show. Anyways, I will continue to post updates regarding Smallville here in this thread from time to time.

Tom Welling not to return for a Season 9?

Here's a few details that are very likely to happen.. All we need now is confirmation from CW and WB:

Here's the direct link to the website and check the Forum:
http://www.savesuperman.com/

For those wondering about Lex:

Got some new info...

Should the series end (which is where my money is) Rosenbaum will indeed be making a return. If the show continues on for a 9th season, expect one of his body doubles to come in as Lex.

--------

As for availability, it's Welling alone that put the series to an end. They're hoping to guilt him into one more year. Putting my money on the series ending is based on several things, but nothing that's hidden or secret. Welling not wanting to do it, him finally being free to do other things with Gough out of the way, CW hanging on the edge of the TV cliff by two fingers, etc...I expect an announcement before the Jan 15th episode as to the series ending.

- Steve

Regarding Welling + The CW

Tis the season for....Nothing new. Unfortunately, CW is still headed down the dark path to oblivion due to the utterly incompetent mindset of Dawn Ostroff. 90210 is losing viewers, Gossip Girl is also fading, and their two new shows (Easy Money and Valentine) got the axe. My9 Network is now ahead of them on an overall weekly basis. Mostly this is due to WWE Smackdown which didn't draw enough of a female demographic for Dawn to consider keeping it around. The final 5 episodes of Smallville for this season each have backup scripts. They aren't completely different stories, but they allow for elements so that the series can end (which is what I firmly believe will happen) and we should hear what is going on before they begin filming Eps 18. Should Smallville be "officially" given a farewell in May 09, it will NOT be the last we see of Mr. Welling. I've been promised this. I just wish I knew what that meant.

A member asked a question:

Believe me I tried. I asked pretty much the same questions as you. Would it be tv or film? Would it be as Clark Kent in something new or a spin off of Smallville in cameo roles? They couldn't tell me anything else without serious consequences. All I know for sure is he has a number of options outside of a 9th season and likes them. I wish I could say one of them is Superman or JLA, but I'm not going that route again. I still stand by my previous reports of talks with WB, but I honestly don't know what these new offers are.

- Steve

Also regarding Welling and a possible interview or two:

Nothing really new will be announced until the final decision is made on season 9 of Smallville. After that, you can actually expect an interview or two from Welling.

I can tell you from what I know, Mark Millar's director couldn't work out a deal. There is still a bit of in-fighting on the "right direction" for them to take the character. Some like Millar's story idea, some like what Geoff Johns and Grant Morrison wanted to do, and then there are those who would let Singer try again. I liked Mark Waid's take because it would have lead to Kingdom Come. Of course I loved what Phil, George, and myself were working on too, but oh well. Don't be surprised if it ends up being late spring or even summer before they figure it all out.

- Steve

Trust this guy, he's pretty legit

Lame. I hope it does keep going, the new writers are making it much better!

What the hell has Welling got other than Smallville? The Fog? Wow, great movie.

Probably the same crap Michael Rosenbaum will do. Cheap corny non funny comedy acts that completely degrade him as a person. Still can't believe that Michael left Smallville for stupid crap like that. Tom will leave to and he won't have much of a career after that.

Damn it, why won't he becomes Superman. Its either the role will fail and he back to where he is now, or it will be huge. Just like how Batman has becomes so big now.

Rosenbaum was awesome as The Flash in the JLA/U animated series. He was perfect and hilarious.

Good news, Smallville fans. Looks like Tom Welling is close to signing on for a ninth season after all:

Question: Any news as to whether Tom Welling has signed on for another season of Smallville? -- Scarlett

Ausiello: Yes, there's news, and it's good. Some would even call it, ahem, super. According to a well-placed Smallville insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I'm told they're just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks Truck pull into the actor's driveway, or just unload on the street.

Some news. Michael could return to play Lex Luthor for an episode or two under one condition:

WCT: Well, you definitely hit it big with the WB show Smallville, playing Lex Luthor. How many seasons were you on?

MR: I did seven seasons and I just finished this past May. They are continuing on another season. My contract was up and it had run its course. I loved the cast and the crew but I felt like my work was done. They have asked me to come back a few times. People think they have seen me on the show since then but I found out they have been using body doubles to pretend that it's me. I don't know how fair that is to the fans.

WCT: So you don't think you will ever come back?

MR: No. I told the producers that I would only come back for the last episode or two if they let me wear a bald cap. I just grew my hair out.

Apparently CW producer, Dawn Ostroff wants to replace Smallville with Melrose Place next year (despite Smallville being the channel's highest rated show). They are asking the Smallville creators to create an ending for the show this season:

Is he fucking STUPID? Ratings have gone UP. It's one of the CW's top shows and one of the ONLY ones that people who don't watch CW actually KNOW ABOUT. And Welling wants to do another, it looks like.

That is because Dawn Ostroff took control of the CW not so along ago and has been solely responsible for getting rid of WWE among other good programs:

Ever since she took over the CW, the CW has been really hurting to the point where they are talking about canceling the CW network itself. One brain dead decision after another from Dawn as she tries to make a completely all girls network like LMN.

Well Lana came back in the winter finale and has about 5 more episodes to go until she's done for good. But honestly, she wasn't even annoying! I blame the previous producers for Lana's suckitude in seasons 4 and up.

Honestly, as people on KryptonSite's forum said, I'm not so sure this is credible. Assillo (spelling lolz) said Welling is close to signing for season 9. Why would they want to cancel it? It's the CW's only safe bet really, as its one of, if not the, top rated show on the network. Makes no sense.

Then again, WB cancelled Angel in its 5th season (where it was going back and forth between Sunday and Wednesday) when ratings had gone up from the 4th season, simply because the president of the network felt it didn't "fit" with the look of the network.

The president next year said he wouldn't have done that.

I recently finished a second viewing of Angel, and the show was probably at its best IMO. It had another 2 seasons atleast left in it.

Can someone get a contact address or something for this Dawn woman? Dumb rumor or not, I'd like to try and e-mail her. Maybe share that with the people on Kryptonsite too.

Hell, fans managed to get fucking Roswell renewed twice when it would have been cancelled. I'd like to think it's worth trying to tell her how horrific of an idea this is.

The plot thickens (IGN):

January 13, 2009 - There has been a lot of talk lately that Smallville, originally assumed to be ending this season, could possibly be renewed for a ninth season. Yesterday, I asked the CW's President of Entertainment, Dawn Ostroff, how likely it is that we'll see another season, and she replied, "We're starting to talk about it. Obviously, we are prepared either way. If the show doesn't go on, we've got a series finale that the writers have been thinking about, but I think we'd all love to see the show come back."

Ostroff went on to say, "Creatively, we've got a new team of writers who are running the show and they've done a great job with the series this year. We've gotten great feedback from the fans. It's interesting, because they've even used more female characters this year, which I think has even really helped it blend in more with the rest of the [CW] lineup. So, we've been really pleased with the show and would love to see it back."

This suggests the complete opposite of the previous article and would even suggest that she likes the show. However, why the uncertainty regarding a ninth season if the CW producer, the show producers and apparently the actors (including Tom Welling) all are willing to sign on for a ninth season. The plot does indeed thicken...

No word yet on whether or not Season 9 will happen but the clips released today for tomorrow's episode "Legion" looks nothing short from incredible:

Season 8 could very well be the best season yet. It would be a shame if a ninth season does not happen.
