I'm not sure that's a valid argument as these genres haven't been present on PC, or sparsely present at best, for the better part of a decade. Recently, when they do show back up, they are a botched port from the console version.
It's not like there is something like Sega's Football Manager, which is consistently in the [ur=http://store.steampowered.com/stats]top 5 games played on Steam[/url] and has buoyed Sega's quarterly reports.
If you think about sports games, they are going to be inherently problematic on a platform where selling updated rosters every year is irrelevant. They will simply be modded into the previous year's game and consumers will continue to play.
