Yes, but the umpire called him safe when he was nowhere near the bag at first.
This is true. I can't tell you what that was about. My only guess is that the ump was trying to signal that the tag was being waved off. But yeah, I don't know what that was about.

The only reason the ump at first (Martz?) waved the safe sign on the Alex smackaway is that he was indicating that Alex was not out on the tag... that is the ONLY reason he would have done that.. he could clearly see that ARod hadn't touched 1st base yet. Still, it's not the proper call to make: he should not make any call until ARod touches first.

But great call by the umps in the end.. what a sissy slap. As a runner what you try to do is slow up so that the pitcher has to make a decision to go after you (hopefully) or throw it to first. This buys time for the other runner on base to advance if possible... you try for a sacrifice.

It's like fouling someone in the NBA, or Pass Interference in the NFL. You try to do al lthat you can to win, it's the referee/umpires job to call you on it.

He didn't hurt the guy, he pushed his hand. Sliding hard into home trying to make the catcher drop the ball is a lot worse an offense than what Arod did.

Arod got called for interference and that's that.
Exactly!

i thought the arod play was pretty funny, it actually made me laugh.

and dont mind the yankee fans its just their way of saying "YOU FUCKING CHOKE ARTISTS"

im pissed at arod. anything less than a double in his last at-bat was unacceptable in my eyes. your facing a guy who is a starter and is coming out of the pen for the second night in a row. you're making a quarter of a billion dollars, get a double.

wha?..so from now on anytime a runner's about to get tagged out he's allowed to slap his way to safety?

He's not allowed to, he will get called out on interference for it, but he is free to try.
He didn't try to hurt the guy, he just slapped at his hand.
It's not a big deal.

Well look what happened last game, a Boston base runner basically shoulder check a fielder to break up a doubleplay, cheating? Depends on the ump...what was he trying to do? Whatever he could to break up the DP...

And I've been agreeing with that then entire time. It was just ridiculous how the umpire called him safe, even though he wasn't even close to the bag.

So we are in agreement? This is what you said to me in a previous post:

You couldn't be further from the truth. Rodriguez didn't even touch the base, let alone smack the ball away. The replays proved this.

POLICE IN RIOT GEAR COME OUT? My god.

I hope the game doesn't get delayed because of the fucking fans.
All I know is they better not call this game because of the fans.

The Bronx will burn tonight if the game gets called (giving the Sox the win, as this is an official game).

except there are no penalties in baseball!..what's his punishment?..if he was already going ot be out but he swats the ball he's out anyways..right?..so why even swat it?..

are you joking dude? running over a catch is not only manly, but completely legal. trying to slap away a ball when you are clearly going to be tagged out is a pussy move.

here's an idea: if A-rod really wanted to do ALL HE COULD to win, how about earning your fucking 10 gajillion dollar paycheck and getting a FUCKING HIT instead of depending on a non-call or bitch slap to bail you out?

what a joke A-rod and these yankee fans at the stadium are

youve got to be kidding me. they're not gonna riot. they'll throw some baseballs and beer bottles but they're not gonna riot.

what it boils down to is that Cabrera running hard at the 2nd baseman to break up the DP=manly, tough hustle play. Slapping at Bronson Arroyo's hand like he was having a flashback to Jeter trying to give him a nipple twister during a late night partying in some club called "the Piledriver"=sissy move. End of debate.

You now belong to FMT.
also... i feel bad if someone pulls a fast ass LINE drive down towards the swat team... they all should be wearing ump gear....

also how funny is it going to be when they dont get out of the way in time for a pop up and they cause a drop...

Look at what you're doing, Joe. Not only are the Yankees on the verge of going from 3-0 to 3-3, but now you're getting of thousands of people arrested by NYPD police in riot gear.

It could all be over so easily.

Look at what you're making your team resort to:

Even if Boston loses, this is the greatest ALCS ever. Even better than last year!

sorry, but nothing will EVER top Pedro owning Zimmer. And just like last year, you had Chokee fans defending Zim like they're defending Arod.

what is the ground rule on riot police in the field of play?

are you asking if ARod is allowed to slap them too? Cause i think Zsa Zsa Gabor went to jail for that.

9th inning comeback time. If any team can do it, it's the Yankees.

But, damn, where did all our offense go. Maybe now that we've got the riot squad backing us up, they'll let loose.

or they'll run over bosox players as they try to field ground balls.

... and just like that they're gone... pffft.

Yeah, this series has gotten great, it's had blowouts, close games, long games, extra innings, and a sideshow aspect (THE SLAP HEARD ROUND THE WORLD), but I'm sorry, nothing will ever beat Pedro grabbing Zimmer's charging head and spinning him down like a top with epilepsy.

And Kuroyume, you know you could always give Joe a private donation which could be passed on. I'm just saying that I have to go to work VERY early tomorrow, which means I'm probably going to bed soon after this game is over, so...
